    Here's a new special edict from m50d:

Only people who can accurately predict the future may have children. Since the rest of you can't personally be sure that the child will receive the best possible care, you'll have to live out the rest of your pathetic lives childless and alone.

    You poor poor ignorant wretches.

I pity you... I really do.

Thus endeth the edict. You may now return to your craven existance content with the knowledge that m50d (as someone MUCH wiser than you) is looking out for the future of the human race.

If you go back in time to kill your father (or even yourself), you won't be able to. It's not that you'll be hit by a car, or that the gun you bring with you will fail to fire. You just won't be able to go back in time in the first place.

No, the world was not with us when we 'stopped it'. The UN declined to authorize the use of force. There were more nations in Bush's "Coalition of the willing" than there were in the attack agains Serbia

And there was no ethnic cleansing going on. Yes there were attrocities comitted, bhe mass graves that were used to sell the war to the American and European public never materialized.

Yes reprehensible things occurred, but they were nowhere near the level of the crap that was being reported. It certainly didn't compare the crap that that was going on in Iraq under Saddam Hussein, and it doesn't compare to the crap that is going on under Robert Mugabe RIGHT NOW.

    How about this:

a person has a special chip inserted in their skull that records their brain state over the course of their lifetime. The chip is wirelessly connected to the backup system and keeps it constantly and updated. Would that be a valid backup?

    Or how about this:

Over the course of a lifetime, a person has various parts of their brain replaced/augmented with technology.

Some of the implants replaced damaged brain functions (damage from a stroke).

Some augment the senses (heads up display).

    Some add new capability (robo-telepathy).

Eventually, the person replaces their entire brain to the point that they no longer need a body and can exist in a virtual world.

When do they cease to be human?
Is it when the last brain cell is replaced?
Is it when the first one gets replaced?
Is it somewhere in the middle?
