I had KEGS or another IIGS emulator running on Mandrake 9 last year. Don't ask me to do it again though..man what a pain in the ass.
All I wanted to do was play the best version of Neuromancer ever made. The Amiga version sucked in comparison to the IIGS version. The C64 port was what I started with originally.
I don't think packaging is such a big deal anymore, but maybe I'm spoiled from using Mandrake for so long. I can find tons of apps just about anywhere, even those with dubious copyrights.
If you're using an rpm-based packaging system you'll hit 90% of the linux desktops out there. The real bitch comes when you get library versions mismatches and whatnot, but that can be prevented by shipping a huge binary with all it's deps rolled into one rpm. Yeah, it sucks, but that's what happens when libs constantly change. The more conservative distros (suse, redhat) generally have older libs than mandrake and some other rpm-based distros and this can cause lots of problems.
At any rate someday there'll be a shakedown and most of the big distros will conclude on a better format for handling deps.
Ironically enough, I bought one of the new-ish IBM keyboards, the Death Star Black model...and while it's alot quieter than the oldschool Unix IBM keyboard I depended on for so long, it just doesn't feel the same. I swear I make more typos on the new black one than I did on the old one. The enter key is a little slim key but the old keyboard had the gigantic, take-up-two-vertical-spaces enter key.
I'm seriously considering going back to the old noisy weighs-a-ton IBM keyboard.
I think by calling it 'dead' they're referring to a 'dead-as-in-latin' definition. Latin is a dead language but it's still used in many professions (the sciences, medicine, courtrooms, etc). Latin is dead in the sense that it's no longer evolving or changing, it's set in stone and will never improve or degrade. Same goes for OS/2 and any other OS that's no longer improved. It's dead because it no longer grows.:)
Backing up your own cartridges for your own personal use? Fair use.
Backing up rentals/your friends games? Piracy.
It's a fine line and hardware/software manufacturers have walked it for decades. Especially those designing stuff that lets you copy what you otherwise couldn't.
Bah, you could say the same thing about laws against marijuana, speeding, etc. etc. Cars being safer than they used to be (for the most part) has made speeding more safe for drivers. Why not raise the national speed limit? Because, friend, the government and all the states would lose money.
Same thing goes for any other ridiculous, inane law on the books today. If there's cash flow, then the law will never be seriously contested.
Here's 20 bucks that says all the 'local insider intelligence' guys are stuffing their wallets with American money and laughing all the way to the bank.
After all, Bob Dobbs says it's best to ride the fence and take money from both sides. Be an Iraqi intelligence guy and get US money while making up entertaining stories to tell the CIA and other agencies. Then you turn around and tell your captain what morons the Americans are. You win!

Trust me dude, 40 miles is close enough to a pig farm.
If you ever drive through West or East Texas during a rainstorm, you may smell something foul in the wind. That, friend, is pig shit and/or cow shit. You can never live too far from a pig farm, it's the worst ever.
I have a feeling you'll see lots more 2d from Nintendo on the GBA.
I bought one a month ago and have beat Metroid Prime (excellent) and Castlevania:Aria of Sorrow. These are the best 2d games I've played since Castlevania:Symphony of the Night on playstation 1.
The GBA is where the old school and best 2d games live now. It's breathed new life into a dying art form.
The download edition, because it's 100% gpl/free software, cannot include the true "nvidia" kernelspace driver. The boxed set, by contrast, does include it, because they are allowed to package non-free software in the purchased boxed sets. Flash, RealPlayer and other non-free stuff is included in the boxed sets as well.
[sic] originally had it's roots in the printing world. It was indeed used to signify that there was a spelling error that was not the editor's fault or the fault of the writer. Generally it was used when quoting another written source of information such as a telegram or an AP wire story that was spelled incorrectly to begin with. Later, when editors began printing reader letters, etc. the trend continued.
These days, it's degenerated into a blanket term that's used for various reasons.
Under Dubya's tax cut plan, he'll probably owe around $2.95 for total taxes on his stock selloff. The top 2% pays almost nothing in taxes...it's called having a clever CPA and lots of loopholes.
Just for fun, try imagining the bounds of the universe. In theory, the universe is constantly expanding at an ever-increasing rate. But the question to ask yourself is, expanding into what? What's beyond nothingness? What surrounded the dot of dense mass that precluded the Big Bang?

Holy shit, an accurate, funny ISR joke, by an AC no less!
Time to buy insurance, the world is definitely gonna end. Props.

Self destructing? Cool. Should be enough for one viewing..and ripping at playing speed with drip will work nicely.

Congrats, you got a goatse reference that was nearly on-topic and had a total of 2 allusions to the famous anus.
Enjoy it while it lasts, goatse references that work are few and far between. Just like the man's cheeks.

By the way, the FBI just added something new to their file on you. Speeding, jaywalking, and aiding and abetting known child pornographers.

The ants here in Texas don't mind the summer heat, so I doubt an AMD case would be much different.
Actually it might be nicer since at least they get a breeze from the fans.

I watched Cowboy Bebop at the Angelika last month (great movie) but didn't know you could drink in the actual theater.
BTW if you get a chance, hit the Magnolia and see Identity, decent film too.
Dude, you just helped me coin a new term:
Escher-esque Management.
Let's push it onto a few blogs and see if it doesn't end up in Wired next month.
