Different parts of the Peninsula felt it differently. Pretty nice roller here in San Mateo. No biggie really. After SF in '89 and LA in '71 I'm getting bored with 'em.:)
When I worked at Netscape, I remember them approaching the company in 1998. In the end, after a brief technical evaluation and a lot of giggling at their business plan they were told to bugger off.
Of course this is just my opinion as a QA guy, listening to conversations and joining a couple of meetings. For all I know they were spiify as hell.
chuckle.
They do have a nice looking building though. I hope the people I remember that joined them aren't too screwed.
Back in The Day (tm) I used to drive out to that warehouse *just* to pick up SCSI drives (coming from SF). Shipping them would have taken a few days, and we typically needed our stuff *NOW*.
Inside it was usually very hot in the summer and rather disorganized. Granted, this was in '95 or so. Maybe it looks better now. Seeing beautiful racks sitting in the sun (no pun intended) at the loading docks on a 90 degree day did not inspire confidence. I did manage to stuff an E450 in the back of my car once. That was amusing.
I'd soldier back to The City in my battered 2002, install and be happy *I* made the delivery.
chuckle. I bet you all just gave this troll a meager slashdotting.
I ask you, if you got an email that started "I just came across a cool looking site..." would you go there and look at it? I didn't think so. In your efforts to help QA Moz, you just handed this guy (or his buddies) a few hits.
It occurs to me, that in this time of economic trouble while people struggle to find gainful employment with which to support themselves and even expand upon their knowledge base and experiences, the business world shies away from hiring inexperienced employees and instead attempt to hire only those with years of experience under their belt. This in theory
makes perfect sense, employers wish only to hire the most qualified persons they can for their money. Sadly this method is ultimately self-defeating.
In my profession (SQA Engineer) the opposite happened during this recession. Companies no longer wanted experience but tried to cut financial corners by only hiring junior engineers. I went six months without a job, but started one today with a sharp company. Keep your eyes peeled, and good luck.
Nice concept, but who wants to lug a small bowling ball to a fire, hope it'll hit the right spot, get hot enough to explode (!) and extinguish a measly little bonfire. Not me.
Hey! Who says he's offtopic? Given that the CEO is a Canuck, you'd think he'd be trying to help out his homeland. But no, he starts with the U.K. first.
I'll bet he's bucking for some sort of dual citizenship, the bastard.
According to their website (when you can get to it) they are a BBB member. Methinks you should have checked with them, with all the "troubles" you went through.
Perhaps when you called for support you only identified yourself as "A/C".
On the contrary the last time where there were huge attacks against Yahoo, Ebay, Amazon...etc., the DOS attacks resulted in billions of dollars of loss of business to the victimised sites.
Wow. Do you really believe everything you read?
I'll make you a deal, no strings attached. Quantify your "billions" figure and I'll give you a crisp $20 bill.

Seeing has how your "real work" appears to be bitching about the AFD stories on Slashdot, it appears you're in good company. Perhaps you should throw a party for all your new-found friends?

Let me guess. You've never worked for a company involved in a merger or acquisition.
Hmmm. Did you bother reading the story AC posted a link to? To quote:
The new Digeo will be headquartered in both
Kirkland and Palo Alto. The firms say they will
keep all 217 Digeo workers and 111 Moxi
employees. About 30 Digeo workers stationed in
Palo Alto will move to Moxi's building.
So in effect, I believe they said something pretty specific. Not that that doesn't mean that layoffs won't occur in the future.
...I could spread these throughout the house, garage and yard, and give my neighbors a thrill with my oddball taste in music. It would be cool if there were "tuneable" powered speakers for the off the beaten track wavelengths. Or are there?
It was just an investigation. There is nothing scary about that.
Hmmm. I'll tell you what. Do something, anything, even a bit mildly innocuous and find yourself the subject of an investigation. A search warrant is issued and people enter your home, without your consent. You're interrogated and have to spend big bucks on a lawyer even though legally, you did nothing wrong.
If you don't think that's "scary", you're either one bad-ass mofo or just trolling.
Would the last one out of the server room please hit the BRS?
Not so fast there Bucko... From the press release: "Spam refers to a computer prank that causes multiple duplicate emails, sometimes several hundred at once, to clog up the recipient's mail server."
Seems to me like they still have a few things to learn...

Or perhaps I'm just being paranoid.

Phew...
Which perplexes me to no end why when a downturn in the economy occurs, companies only want to hire low-paid, novice QA Engineers.
And yes, I'm a bit bitter....
"No", came the answer.
