    The most expensive pair of Oakleys, the "Juliet" model will run you at leastUSD $250. Dealer cost is around $150, so markup of course takes it toll.

    That being said, I have had a pair for over 2 years now, and they are awesome. Very, very strong (I used to break cheaper sunglasses al the time) and light as a feather. A heavy feather mind you....

    I have "dropped out" of tech, at least temporarily. Besides the 80 hour weeks, scrounging for work up here in the Sacto area was depressing. No one wants seasoned people, they want junior folks.

    So, I said fuck it. I don't need to get rich, and I have skills in other fields that are far more amusing. Here is something I sent to someone else the other day:

    "I have abandoned software, at least for the nonce.

    I am now the service manager for Capitol Powersports in Folsom, Ca. (http://www.capitolpowersports.com) and the Chief Instructor of the new racer schools with Keigwins @ The Track (http://keigwin.com), the largest motorcycle trackday provider in Northern California.

    My new boss is an ex-Microsoftie. :)"

    I've been roadracing motorcycles since 2000, and I figured do what you love...

    It should make for an interesting resume.

    The geekiest people may well be the people with the worst internet service.

    That's a fairly profound statement, actually.

    Those of us with broadband can become info junkies, endlessly clicking and staring at all the eye candy.

    Those people stuck with dialup *can't* do the same (even with Lynx) and may be likely to spend more time doing something useful, like coding on Slash.

    Of course, Rob is so busy running around in his Lear jet to LW confs and naked BOF's that the only one that really suffers is Ms. Taco (heh), home with the wash and litter.

    You have to wonder what male/female ration there is.

    I would have to say it seemed tp be somewhere in the 5M / 2F range. Still serious hunting work, if that's what you're after. Orkut doesn't seem to be in the bunny-chasing phase yet, as more actual "community building" is going on with the early-adopter types.

    Of course, if they drop the invitation-only clause, that will move somewhere closer to 10 / 1 or less. And that's not even counting the men pretending to be women.

    RTFA again. I believe $32M is what There spent to develop their system. The article says the gummint is paying $6M on dev, and this article says the gummint contract with There was for $3.5M.

    A bit of disparity, to be sure. I still want a gold toilet seat.

    The types who buy the repli-racers tend (supposition through direct oberservation) to be the ones most easily goaded into hauling ass. The same types assume they can play Valentino Rossi on corners they have no experience with, wearing t-shirts and tennis shoes.

    You avg. V-Max rider likely has at least a black leather jacket on, just to match. The V-Max is the perfect sleeper bike but I agree is definitely not for beginners, but then neither is a CBR600RR.
