I learned in a class in college (named Art & Literature, one of those Liberal Arts classes i was forced to take) that something could only be considered art if the "experts" considered it art. I never did find out what that ment, seems kinda catch-22ish to me. Who would the experts be, in the case of painting? The artists, or those who consume the art? The problem would be the same with games.
I would venture that a great number of games are not art, but there are a select few who are, and those ones are the games that are the most important of all (imho)
Indeed it is. It is my favorite as well. 8 player shine runners is real fun on that one, but the baloon battle sets up some interesting fights as well. Good thing i play that one with frends close enough to punch...
I never owned crystalis, but played it at a friends house. I remember it being more indepth (as in, rpg-ish) than zelda. but, thats just what i remember.
Id also add garagegames.com to that list. I'll admit, i licence their technology, but I also buy some of their games. Marble Blast is still one of my favorite want-to-smash-the-keyboard games
Agreed. There is a Winamp streaming tv station that carries p&tb, but its always full. Oddly, this was pretty much the only show on there that I am fully interested in. The others, meh, but definately a good start. At last, somebody listens to the slashdotters!
Actually, I view mercenaries as a GTA clone, but it is a good one. It had its own plot devices ripped from the headlines. Then again, its lucas arts, who are sometimes known for good games:)
I have an xbox, and like 40 games for it. I've spent more time playing my DS in the past month than gaming on the xbox. Nintendo is on the right track with the DS. Its different. There some seriously cool games coming out for it. I look forward to the revolution!
I'm a twenty-something, and I have a Space Invaders jacket that I wear pretty much every day. It is the first game that I remember playing. I haven't played a version of it in many years, but it still brings back good memories
Agreed. Mirror your location in the US (im in midle of nowhere, NY) but the rest sounds about the same. I thought about starting small, myself and maybe a buddy, mostly web based projects, but the idea is more and more interesting the more i think about it...
Hey, i thought it was a good idea too. Im in the 2nd poorest county of New York State. I make much less than the h1b guys do in CA, but i still have a "good paying job" in my area. Love the low cost of living
And thats the real problem. Then again, i live in the middle of nowhere. Maybe i should start offering outsourcing for companies in CA who dont want to pay their programmers $80k+ a year
Ill second that. I bought my DS for portable multiplayer mario kart (cant wait till next month) but in the mean time, Im having a TON of fun with some of the more interesting titles (and no, nintendogs isnt interesting)
its possible to take that extra bankroll and the 10-30 hrs a week doing hobby game development. Hell, i make muuuuch less than that, but have gobs of free time. Too bad I'm really lazy (and sick of programming writing boring shipping apps)
If i recall correctly, torque products are recomended. Their reasoning was, if it was a 3rd party lib/engine, it would be quite difficult to have GG get the code ready for xblarcade. Check out jeff tunnells latest plan over at garagegames.com for more information

Probably the best book, sci-fi or not, I've read over the last couple of years.
I'll second that. I was very suprised at the quality of the book. One of my new favorites.

Hell yeah there was, I now know the best way to take a waggon all the way across the country without gettin dystentary!
Doesnt sony own both record companies AND movie companies? would one division have to sue the other?

the fact that you did not link to the Wikipedia article on aybabtu means YOU sould turn in your geek card :)
serisouly, theres a bunch of info in that article if you REALLY want to know that much.
I telecommute... after 5 pm and before 9 am. Otherwise, i'm in the office. Though, its not like i have that far to go (1 mile in a small town)
Yeah, guess it isnt the second poorest, but i always forget about "downstate" as being a part of NYS. cattaraugus still sucks.
If Oneida is a hole, then cattaraugus is a pit :) Yeah, it sucks. Yeah, i want to move. No, i dont have the money to do so.
