Desktops will always be around in the business world. But a few years ago if a non-geek friend said "i'm going to buy me a compuder" it meant a desktop. Today,"buyerin a 'puder" means a laptop.
For the average consumer, Laptops may have replaced desktops.
And since the average consumer is only consuming web content, is it possible when prices come down that tablets replaced laptops? I don't know, but I've seen this industry change so much, I think it's foolish to say they won't.
How have people discovered this on their device? How have they removed it? Does any current AV on the main android market protect against or even detect these? I'm thinking of AVG, or is that no longer a reliable AV, I've personally not used AVG for a year or two.
Most comments here are worried about what exactly this one virus does. I'd think as IT types the focus should be what can be done about it. (lets assume that we will be exposed to it) How do we prevent negative results from that exposure.
...If I purchase my movie from a store, I can't watch it in HD on my custom component video setup. But if I download it from the internet and burn it to disk, violating copyright, and getting the product for FREE, then I can watch it in HD?
Really...I mean really!? How does anyone think this is a good idea?
I (the consumer) just want to purchase a good, and do what I want with it after I get home from the store. I might want to watch it on one device or another, maybe I want to move it to a mobile device(not on the disk anymore) Why am I being punished for paying for the product?

When Rogers in Canada has the same phone, with Froyo released, and the US still doesn't have Froyo. Also Samsung has promised a GPS fix, without delivering. These are very basic things so no more Samsung.
The problem is, it's so very close to being the best hardware (OK some may have different opinions on the very best) but if it was updated to the latest 2.x code, AND had all the hardware working(GPS) one could easily argue that the Galaxy S is on of the best phones around.
Down with Samsung, I'll be avoiding them. How is HTC doing in this area? I've been very happy with them in the past.
Yes, just make sure to get a blackberry with a big physical keyboard, some keyboards are getting small (which = hard to use for ssh) With a BES it's hard to beat for SSH. I guess you won't get X directly....but the time's i've gotten a desktop on sub-7" screen, it wasn't worth it.
but couldn't they just spend the same amount on good people? and, as per your argument have good trained people that will actually be an effective protective measure? or am I missing you point?
Bingo....i've not picked up either of the ones you listed. But my fav games are the ones me and my friends can sit around and play in teams or co-op against the AI.
I've specifically seeked out co-op games, in fact printed off entire lists for some platforms, and went to a store only to purchase EVERY co-op game they had. To be clear, I'm not saying I plan to do that, i'm saying I HAVE already done that.
Maybe...just maybe...some game dev will understand the want for that game style, and start making more cool games that are co-op.
May I ask what the lesson of the movie is? I'm either one of those that the point is lost on...or reading way to much into your statement. I'm can't figure out how that statement is really on topic.... Of course It's way too late in the day for me anyway.
I guess I'll kill the rating on my post now...looks like this is just an FYI on the update that was over the air about a month ago...nothing to see here move along. (unless you need the update over PC then it's good directions to manually install)
I can't confirm if this really is a fix, but it claims to be. That Samsung has release a firmware update that fixes the GPS issue. Per the link the update is being pushed over the next few weeks, posted 6 days ago, so it's not been weeks yet.\
I'd second this, We're already at dozens of cores in a regular server...even a year ago we had those, so all those talking about big iron boxes from Sun and others, HP sells them. However this is all pointless since the summary seems to have meant to say cores in a single socket. We're a ways from that in normal day-to-day servers. (but maybe not to far;)
I purchased the ONLY dim able CFL's I could afford....big box store(so no cheapo online place) and the color is HORRIBLE. Took them out and put standard bulbs back in. In addition to bad color, they didn't actually seem to dim correctly. I've got some CFL's non-dimming, that have an acceptable color and light output. And the warm up time is something i can put up with. But to have a good dimming light, it seems like you must have a standard bulb.
I guess my problem is, how do I know if I'm buying a good CFL? Since the same store sells OK ones and bad ones, and please don't tell me to buy and return until i get a good bulb. That extra gas running to and back from the store just killed any savings (enviro or $$) that the CFL provides. Also, don't tell me to purchase a brand that costs $10 a bulb, again no savings there. Not aiming to be rude here, just being open about real issues I have, holding me back from pushing others to use CFL's
i'll second the power network statement. one noc I watch over has dual generators going to dual building ups, then on the desktop a cool switch that makes the pc use dual power. Servers of course have dual power built in. network is redundant as possible. Dual supervisor at the access layer and dual chassies above the access layer.
Beyond that I'll also agree that the software is critical, and make sure someone will be around too continue to update and support the software.
That may be a good kids toy. But the link says not for kids 3 and under, for small parts. Which may mean its aimed at even older kids. I've had ussues finding good tech toys for the 3 and under age. Even online flash based games seem to be for 4and up
Agreed, I started using igoogle and rss feeds instead of email lists. If I find free time I read the rss feeds, if not no big loss. Less stuff in my inbox other than the one or two lists I really want to read as they arrive.
Or you could look at something like a zero footprint pc, looks like they are now called all-in-ones: http://www.cybernetman.com/
**BUT** from those I've talked to that have used them, they don't last very long and the power is low just like the one you list is a netbook = low power CPU.
seems to me i just heard of an attempted murder....the person attacked is still alive, despite being shot...and the person got less time than T.C. I mean WOW, try and kill punishment than not handing over a password....I'm thinking your statement of "unbalanced" needs to be modded up. Here is a question I'd like some comment on: Shouldn't crimes with an actual victim have a more sever punishment than victim-less crimes?
What am I missing here? I feel like there is an aspect i'm not considering.
This is exactly what the original post is asking for. Now it will be up to the individual to do a cost comparison in their specific environment to determine the actual initial cost and ongoing cost. So I'm not saying run out and purchase it, but it is the owning alternative. Allowing one piece of hardware per location, instead of renting several pieces of hardware per location. Which is apparently a primary concern.
The main issue may be cost per unit, since one would be needed per site, and it appears that the number of TV's is fairly low at each site. Stuff like this is usually used at large apartment buildings.
But the question has been answered with this hardware.
I guess I do more remote admin stuff on my laptop. Looking at the side dock (or whatever its called) feature of win 7 (or widget in other OS's) a big enough wide screen may be OK for some stuff. For me remote in to one system to remote in to another, the std ratio is better. Yes in Windows world that happens, especially with VM's.
As for wide screen being easier to travel with, i guess i never noticed. I tote my 4:3 big screen laptop every day to and back, and frequently on the road/air. I've usually got other cables (console and cross over and such) plus other bits and such that the standard ratio screen size laptop has not been really noticeable for me.
I've been sticking with a 4 year old laptop at work (IT usually gets their pick of the hardware, fact of life) Mainly for the 4:3 (or close to it) screen. I strongly agree, that wide screen is worse for viewing scrolling pages, which is lots of my work.
i love having and RDP window of 1024x768 without having to scroll, and being able to see my main taskbar still!
wide screen and i would loose this functionality.
QUESTION: is a 19" wide screen actually less pixels than an 19" std ratio??? meaning is it cheaper to make, less raw material??? letting manufactures sell us less for the same price?
-me PS ok i also want the serial port in the old laptop, which seems hard to get these days, but that's off topic

Do the profiles allow you to have separate instant queues? Or are the profiles only for physical disk queues?

That is right in line with a big corp around here that has shifted all new development over the last 2-3 years to MS Visual Studio and Dot Net.
So then then the CxO's decide to buy Macs
And then the developers somehow get Macs, to work with their visual studio of course.
(Palm hits forehead just remembering the setup)
PS yes I know about MONO and that new Macs are x86, that's not the point.

Green as in non CFC and similar...NOT green as in color, color being off topic.
