The hack does not write anything to the BIOS chip, but instead uses a buffer overflow in the font handling code to run a hacked BIOS file loaded onto the HDD. The XBox Linux Project has loads of information on this, and other technical information on the XBox (and yes, I did put in the information for my XBox). This is a more thorough discussion of the specific hack that I was talking about.
Actually, it is possible to mod the XBox without opening it up. The game bug referred to in your parent poster does not require the XBox to be opened. You merely have to transfer a gamesave to the XBox and use it from within the game. Files are installed on the hard disk that allow the hack to run.
That game with Higharolla Kockamamie isn't Metal Gear II. It's a cheap knockoff made by Ultra Games called "Snake's Revenge". The games in the real series aren't quite that silly.
I gave all my characters their last names (or their real names, as with Red XIII and Cait Sith). All the "Mr. Cloud"s turned into "Mr. Strife"s, which made a lot more sense. And I just found "so nanaki's name is nanaki" really funny.
If you remember, the area specifically around Midgar was extremely dead, with no grass or anything for a big distance around it. I think that the meteor only destroyed midgar, but not all the other communities (with the possible exception of Kalm..)
Midgar was home to ShinRa, which was the company that was responsible for much of the destruction. It's entirely possible that the best thing for the Planet was merely the destruction of that one city, and not the others.
OT: anyone else notice that the Highwind's final transportation scene (where Cid pulls on that handle) was one of the scenes in the commercial for the game?
I've never heard of a presidential uniform....
You need an Illudium Q-36 Space Modulator for that.
yeah.. but they get back through transwarp seven years later...
Star Trek IV

funny, it did say that earlier...
must be one of those "stealth" updates...

The BBC page of the devil!!
(look at the link URL)
heh.. I suddenly remembered that my copy of Metal Gear I for NES has an "Ultra Games" logo on the title screen.

And of course, anything that the Aschen give us is right out...
gah.... *fourth* option, I mean...
heh.. here's a third option (and something that Nintendo's already done)
Make a GCN demo disk, and have a GBA game for download.
The GCN Preview disk has a demo for Wario Ware on it. Granted, this requires a GCN, GBA, and link cable, but it is still an option.
Agreed. That was a fantastic battle.
And it explains why your classmate called you for your real name
what the hell am I doing there?
{Lt. Dan walks on stage carrying a pair of powerbooks and boots them up}
Forrest:ooo.. magic Powerbooks...
Funny, I thought Sharp made the Zaurus, not Sony..
It's "coffee. Jamaican blend. Double strong, Double sweeet". And it's Chief O'Brien's standard order, not Picard's
gordon lives!
It was a mel gibson movie, and it was named "ransom"
Well, I don't know about Japananese, but in Japanese, wouldn't the plural form be something like "Alien-tachi"?

"Karma: chameleon, due mostly to the replacement of casing to color-changing material"
Heh.. I read somewhere that the deaths noted in that link are the only people killed on the U.S. mainland by a Japanese attack.
