My mom has a Dell Inspiron with Windows XP that is giving her fits (wireless doesn't work, some software does not install, etc). She also has a 3rd generation iPod. She is now thinking about switching to a Mac when she gets her next laptop (14" iBook or maybe 15" Powerbook if she thinks it is worth it). Nothing is definite right now.
Currently, her son (me) uses a G3 800MHz iBook and her son-in-law uses a G4 Powerbook (aluminum I believe).
Last night mom could not get the pictures she had transfered from her digital camera to her iPod (Belkin card reader I think). Being that she is here for Thanksgiving she brought her iPod with her. She gave it to me, with dock, I plugged it in and took the pictures off of it in under 2 minutes.
"Wow, that is so easy... I knew it would be that way."
So much for the holiday rush. If Sony had a fucking clue... the game would have been on shelves the day before Thanksgiving. Seeming as the day after is the biggest shopping day of the year and all (Wal-Mart did $1.4B or $1.5B that _day_ last year).
when you don't have much money... and Big Y does crazy buy 1 get 1/2/3 free and such... you give up and go with it. you know how much info is on your credit/debit card that they have access too?
recycling costs more than it saves (energy wise) for just about everything save for aluminum. great analogy -- what waste product do you see homeless people picking up and turning in? that's right, aluminum cans.
Given the track record of the last few presidents of stature (billy and ronnie) I would rather have a noob in the mix. Raw uncut idealism surrounded by aides of stature and experience (cabinet, senators, representatives, judges etc). Sometimes when a system is broken you have to break it even more to fix it.
Given the job that the last few presidents have done (going back to Ronnie)... I wouls almost rather have a noob in there. Raw uncut idealism surrounded by aides with experience (cabinet, senators, representatives etc). Sometimes the only way to fix a broken system is to break it again.
I will stay up all night election night and update the site in real time. I am NOT promising to stay up until we know who the president is. I would definitely like to go to bed sometime during the month of November.

this is the message on my companies employee website!:-)
the july numbers were surprisingly high, which caused the august numbers to get revised. now the new numbers don't meet the revision. amazing how the man (dubya) is set up to do nothing right. and no, i would never vote for him (or kerry or nader for that matter).
give me a candidate (that is on the ballot):
1. pro-choice 2. against restrictive gun control (no machine guns makes sense... some of the other restrictions are ludicrous, not to mention how ineffective they are) 3. pro legalising pot (tax the shit out of it) 4. against Microsoft
iRiver quotes roughly 1/2 the battery life for video compared to audio playback. I would assume that most anything else produced in the near future would be similar.
The newest digital SLR's are starting to come with wireless (802.11g), which IMO, is a much better way to transfer files than juggling CF cards back and forth. If those SLR's could stream pics off _while_ taking more pics... and the iPod had 802.11g... that would rock.
The industry has talked up the idea that computers will finally move from the home office to the living room for many years, but Ballmer said he thinks this theory may be about to become a market reality.
You mean a laptop? Geesh... my ThinkPad is from 1999.
"Industry Insiders" really need to get a clue methinks.
i use what works for the situation. at work it is win2k. at home it is either mandrake or os x. the OS is just a portion of the whole tool. i think people forget this all too often...
I thought it was more a reference to the fact that listening to music is easy on a ortable player, but viewing pictures and video is not. If the player was to be good at that (all 3 actually), then it would do damage to the iPod market share. The player this guy "reviewed" does not.
1. cold water in bottom of lake 2. cold water piped to surface 3. cold water cools warm air that is circulated through and becomes less cold water 4. less cold water is piped to drink water facility 5. less cold water is cleaned and becomes neutral temp 6. neutral water piped to your house that was cooled with the help of #3 7. you use siad water 8. water goes to waste treatment plant 9. after cleaning water is recycled into the lake
i happen to agree with you on the overuse of AC. after living in Arizona for several years... i don't understand the need for people in the northeast to have the office at 72 degrees F when outside it only get to 90 on rare occasions (this had been a cool summer - i am in Connecticut).
but... they are putting the water to good use for this program. the drinking water is already being sourced from the lake. the waste water is already being returned to the lake. cheaper cool air for buildings will allow for wages to remain competitive (as building upkeep costs increase the availability of funds for other things goes down) as budgets get ever tighter. it just makes sense if you ask me. it's not like the lake was some virginal water body. it was already being used. they are just adding another step allowing for more efficiency. my guess is someone learned about using thermal vents to heat water/air and said how do we do the opposite. and being in canada where there are willing to try new things relating to the environment without overreacting... good things can happen.
If the ratings were high enough, the adverts would have made more money, allowing for their budget to not seem to out of connection with their reality.

Pictures have been on the iPod since July....
Not bad for a single woman born in 1951 eh?
you could actually buy the McDonald's bucks... my grandparents did for a while.
maybe he would pay if the 5 yr old problems had been fixed?
"so repulsive" - the idea of war, or the idea of losing a war you started?

Style sheet problem. Hit refresh and it usually gets fixed.

Cut a deal with XM or Sirius....?
Uh.... yeah right. Did you not see/use a Archos first? Buying on "specs" alone is pretty dumb IMO.

i have no install privileges at work. IE 5.5 on win2k SP4 it is for me. :(
This is just a slick way to garner hype for episode 3.
If they can make money at it... they probably will film it. Just take control away from George. They guy is not the wellspring of originality.

But of course... that only makes sense.
