I wonder if these songs are already on the disk and only unlockable through purchasing them (the key)? Imagine the justifiable outrage if that is the case. They pulled this crap with Return to Castle Wolfenstein on the original xbox but at least those were free "downloads".
The speed and breadth of communications (warnings) along with the knowledge we have today of how viruses propagate would go a long ways in reducing the spread. Sure it'll spread over a larger area more quickly due to increased density and speedy carrier travel, but it is much more likely to fizzle out quicker then in the past due to the previously mentioned things. The days of thinking smoking or eating porridge to prevent colds is long gone.

Good points. Of note though, that looks like a Talon Stingray which doesn't have any internal paintball storage. Without a hopper he was just shooting blasts of CO2. I'm not sure how they were triggering the squibs accurately which to me is an additional clue towards the video's "fakeness"
One problem is that often someone will patent an idea without further developing it. They will sit on it until another company does all the footwork to make the idea feasible and then sue them. Unless the other company takes the risk the patent won't benefit anyone.
Since every other mainstream media disk (DVD, CD etc.) is already universal without mentioning it in the name, how can Sony justify using the name? It's just merit-less marketing speak.
What amazes me is that I heard those same jokes shortly after the accident. What I don't get is that since Mainstream media would have never published them, how did they spread so far so quickly?
Apparently the student was also under watch due to significant time abroad and possibly other activities. While I don't agree that even with these added bits a shakedown was necessary (Unless there's even more to the story) there's a lot more to the story then checking out a book.
It's hard to show off the wireless aspect of it while theres a huge metal security bracket holding the controller. Might this interference be caused by a wireless network adapter? I'm not sure if it was the real deal or a simulation, but the Walmart I checked had what appeared to be a gamertag that allowed me to log in.
Not that this makes the situation any less surreal, but the password that everyone says was on the bottom of the laptop wasn't in the form most people assume it was. It was part of the address of the school. They didn't write it out as Password:xxxxxxx. A stupid mistake indeed but not as bad as the latter.
One of the critical things that a doctor does is to release a pedal or switch to shut off the laser in case someone's eye drifts or flickers around. Remote operating will always add a small bit of lag to this, possibly leading to minor problems with the overall evenness of the burn.
In the last link a woman mentioned that she bought 3 iBooks. What kind of crap is that? Thousands of people fighting outside for a chance to get one and she walks off with 3!? Call me crazy, but I think one should have been the limit.
I wonder if part of the problem lies in the fact that newer consoles have moving parts? I would say overall the last 2 generations of systems won't last as long as the earlier solid state machines. For this I am grateful for backwards compatibility. It means I'll be more likely to find a working machine 20 years in the future.
Another advantage in staying "behind the curve" is being able to buy the games dirt cheap. There are very few I pay full price for, (Mostly Atlus stuff which usually doesn't come down in price) since most triple-A titles drop down to $20 eventually. Most of my purchases have been buy 2 get one free (POed)meaning 3 for around $15-$20 bucks. 6 or 7 games for the price of one new one means there are more then enough titles to keep me occupied until the new releases drop in price. Honestly I can't even keep up!
About the PS3 memory card slot... I really wouldn't be surprised if a 3rd party or Sony brings out a memory card->USB adapter or some other way to transfer the saves eventually.
Try turning off the translucent layer and adjusting frameskip up to 2-3 or above. These changes made Actraiser much more playable to me but of course your MMV.
How expensive are they if I just want to play single player games?

It won't take Sony long to poke a couple of holes in the controller shell and call it a speaker.

Like reading and posting on Slashdot? ;)
Just carry a flashlight and extra batteries. A laser pointer may give you more wiggle room.
How are we going to learn to terraform other planets unless we practice on ours first?

Or you could simply try to spin a coin on the floor. ;)
That's why I like my Troll meat flame-broiled.
It's too bad MS didn't include a couple .PAR disks. ;)

Yes, for the same reasons that Laser eye surgery never came out. ;o)

Although a neat idea, I don't think it would be too useful in the real world since few people use their real name when posting in newsgroups.
