> For-profit companies are not interested in space exploration, > they are interested in making money.
Given some fresh ideas I think there is money to made by private companies shooting for Mars. I mean beyond the "space tourism" niche which the Russians could be making a killing from if they had a decent spacecraft for the journey up I think alot of different industries would love a chance to cash in on the exploits of Mars.
Seriously a good business plan, management, and some unique ideas and technology with attainable deliverables would probably be a good investment IPO-wise...
Furthermore it seems to me that if the US government doesn't start embracing, funding, and clearing the path for the private space ventures to flourish it will happen in Russia, China, or India where they don't have to climb a mountain of lawyers, rules and red tape...
Correct me if i am wrong but this release is called "XANDROS OPEN CD"... its based oiff of an Open Source Linux distro.. and it is "FREE" to download... the Xandros market is the business market...
How the hell can I try it in a business environment if the license basically says I can't? If I install Xandros OpenCD and check my email with it I am in breach of contract.
for your personal, non-commercial use; and for internal business purposes only and only if You are a Developer;
According to the licence only Non-Commercial Software Developers can use the OpenCD... If they are targeting this market segment then access to the source is usually assumed...
What they should have done is given anyone running a Microsoft OS in a commercial for-profit business environment the chance to test-drive Xandros...
The software already is already free. I don't think I have paid for any of the software on my Linux box. Come to think of it even on the Windows platform most people have figured out a way to get software for free.
Now if they are willing to give me the hardware free of charge as well all I need to do is continue using my neighbours Wireless router for Internet access... and get me some roof mounted solar cells for power...
Lucas had added several new scenes based on what he had envisioned at the time but could not achieve due to technical reasons....
THX and LUH smoke death sticks after he knocks her up...
A new character, JJB 666, has been inserted as THX's sidekick...
And perhaps most riveting of all we learn that SEN was actually thrown in jail for surfing on lava.. a sport which had been outlawed along with the sex...
It there is a surfing safari lightsabre battle the movie trailers will ruin it for you way before the movie opens in theatres. If you read Slashdot you know you can't escape the trailers.
On the bright side maybe if there is enough negative coverage on Slashdot during the course of the next 361 days, 9 hours, 33 minutes, and 15 seconds the movie may actually exceed expectations...
No its not really usable.. lots of crashes and anything that requires the CPU takes a REALLY LONG time.. however all things considered this is quite an accomplishment.. maybe down the road when x86 processors are faster.. The Pear PC documentation states that the client runs about 40 times slower than the host.. hence the 5 - 10 hour install times..
My guess is Apple will shut PearPC down the day it actually becomes usable..
Unfortunately this serves a proof that Apple is making inroads into Microsofts desktop userbase.
This is no different that all of the Executable Email attachments going around... you have got to be a moron to run stuff like this.
I used to think only a Windows user would download a 300 kilobyte file from Limewire called Office 2004 and blindly run it thinking that they were going to get the full version.. hopefully there no more "switchers".. they giving us a bad name.
The new.6 release of Thunderbird is really fast on my 12" G4 Powerbook and looks great too. Its multiple email account management is much better than the Apple Mail.app IMHO. It also has better support for sending and displaying HTML mail.
You can make Safari be friendly with Thunderbird (ie. Email links open into Thunderbird) by going to the Apple Mail.app and under Preferences setting Thunderbird as the Default MailApplication. Kind of obfuscated by Apple on purpose I am sure...
ok the bird looks cross-eyed bloodshot stoned out of his mind.. munchies under one arm.. with a hairdoo to match.. a scarf that looks like something from queer-eye.. add one more finger to the hand gesture and he's calling us all a$*holes..
hopefully they give the gull an extreme makeover before they let him loose..
From what I read I think "sharing" is moving towards or is legal as well now...
Canoe's coverage of the story has the judge quoted as saying:
"I cannot see a real difference between a library that places a photocopy machine in a room full of copyrighted material and a computer user that places a personal copy on a shared directory linked to a P2P service," he said.
Furthermore he said that downloading a song or making files available in shared directories, like those on Kazaa, does not constitute copyright infringement under the current Canadian law.
The problem with the G5 IMHO is that the tower is absolutely massive. Sure it looks amazing in photos, but when you actually go to an Apple Store its mammoth proportions are startling.
Furthermore even with its massive size there is room for only 1 (one) additional internal drive and no additional front loading bays.
So after you stack all of your external drives on top the total package is like 3+ feet tall.
Take a look at Dells latest gaming laptop.. http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/compa re.a spx/notebooks?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
its the same price as the 15" Powerbook.. similar specs... yet its 2 inches think and weighs 9+ pounds! who on earth wants a laptop thats 2 inches think and 9 pounds..... this was actually a recent Slashdot story.
Between the iBooks and the Powerbooks Apple laptop prices are actually pretty competitive .
Owning an Apple is like driving a BMW... sure every car gets from point a to b.. but some do it in style. My Powerbook wows people... and OSX is like the icing on the cake.
I don't think BMW has ever complained about their 2% marketshare. Neither has Apple.
Inevitably a human will introduce microbes to the planet... and contaminate it
You would think we would be worried about some unique extremophile bacterium on mars infecting us. My guess is that Mars is a one way trip... otherwise Earth might be introduced to the Mars Plague by any returning space men.
I wonder if M$ will port an embedded Virtual PC to the new system to ensure backwards compatibilty. Three "G5's" should be able to achieve similar if not better performance than the current xbox 800 mHz? x86.
Rumor has it Virtual PC 7 might have Direct 3D capabilities with Quake3 being playable on the 2Ghz G5 via the emulator.
Apple has been moving away from clear plastic pearlescent white and towards brushed steel / aluminum. The plastic looks 'cheap' and has been imitated to death.
Plus that cube has a spot for a Floppy drive... Apple users havn't used floppy drives for years.
This cube looks like something a cheap apple cousin might design.:)
agreed.
just like when they pretend to have a "live" interview with a sports celebrity - but the answers were pre-recorded hours in advance. or when the presidents "live" broadcast starts to skip..
these days its hard to believe anything you see on tv.
It looks like you definately could buy the phone in the US to save some cash... maybe the surging Canadian dollar hasn't worked its way to the phone prices yet.. or maybe the Canadian companies can't negotiate the high volume deals the big US companies can.

just another excuse for sysadmins everywhere to amass large quantities of pr0n in a short period of time ...
Would make an awesone handheld gaming system if it were priced about $1000 lower ... for $1500 I might as well go buy a 12" Powerbook ...

The question is would he be going to jail if he was spamming using his own identity?
Yep its the Special Edition.

to zoom in you move the simputer closer to you ..
...
...
... how convenient.
you can rotate the display by holding the simputer and twisting your wrist
if you toss the simputer directly above you its homing technology will cause it to fall back down towards you
and it will automatically shut itself down once the battery is dead
