I thought at first that Bruce was going to be on the OpenSolaris board. Considering how vehematelyhe's been vetting, Sun for the patent/CDDL controversy, I'd gander I was WAY off. But the original OpenSolaris announcement did say they were bringing someone extremely well respected in the FOSS community to be the fifth board member.
ESR seemed to really have an affinity for Sun's products, he's been the most vocal about them openning Java. Maybe ESR will be joining the OpenSolaris team, which may mean we will be seeing a shift in position from Sun on the patent/CDDL issue.
Then again, could I speculate any more???
It's Debian with a great installer and includes Crossover Office which runs MS Office, Notes, Studio MX, and countless other Windows apps.
For office use it is probably the best option because of the included, very simple, Windowsesque VPN app for remote users. It also includes proprietary drivers such as Nvidia and ATI, so it "just works" out of the box. Xandros picked-up Corel's file manager app that is quite stunning after the updates the Xandros folk've made.
Yes, it has a per-seat license. That shouldn't make the PHBs nervous at all; in fact, they'll probably feel better about the decision.*
*Considering the notion that most PHBs feel it's important to have a single company to blame when something goes awry.
For those of you wanting to delve in the source for DTrace, check Bryan's blog.
He's on of the two key devs that brought DTrace to reality, and gives some good insight into the code.
You can almost see him blushing like a proud new dad in his blog as well.:)
The fifth board member will be Bruce Perens. I think I tipped it with this.
For the link shy:
FTA: However, a source close to Open Source Risk Management (OSRM), which commissioned Ravicher's review, claimed to know what the Jan. 25 announcement was and told NewsForge that it had nothing to do with Ravicher's study.
So, come on Bruce... what's the announcement. We know they meant you! Spill it baby

I did hear it doesn't tell ya what it removed, and THAT is NOT good.
You heard wrong.
It also doesn't stop you from using any other spyware tool. How you got modded insightful is beyond me. (note: I'm not trying to insult you, that's more a smack at the mods than anything else)
No, I didn't act like anything. I was not the parent poster. I was responding to your post. I didn't say any of the things that you say i did. I simply stated that one thing, specifically my GigE, was not recognized by any "modern" distro. I stated nothing else.
Your bad.
I just wanted you to know that Knoppix 3.7 doesn't recognize my GB eth0. Honestly, neither did Ubuntu, Mepis, or any other modern distro I've tried to run on it. Knoppix is awesome, don't get me wrong... I've spent several hours of my life remastering old versions (to include LUFS, when that was looking good, I remastered one for my GF's daughter with games and tuxtype/math, yada-yada) and was really looking forward to doing one based on 3.7, because I've got this screamin machine now and it should take no time whatsoever. Well, not the case when I can't reach the network to install new packages.
Anyway, that's just my $0.02.
I learned this years ago while waiting tables:
"Habba ka habba hu jabba kibaba."
Which translates to:
"Little by little we fill the kibaba measure," or the cultural equivalent to "one rung at a time" or "baby steps" (if you're a fan of What About Bob).
Seems fitting, as this is how all OSS will eventually "win;" one box at a time.
(I can't believe I actually got to use Swahili in context:)
"Not all p2p software is backed by unethical companies..."
Not to be too picky, but he didn't say anything about p2p software. He specifically targets the companies that make the software. When there is no financial interest in the software, as in Gnutella and other Libre software, there is no implication of unethical intent. At least, not in his post.
Cheers.
Because cygwin has registry hooks. It's not "mobile" or "portable" enough for a USB stick. Find a link to a mobile cygwin that can run on USB or CDROM and I'm all with you!
I was just thinking that the editors had actually caught on. That they had started ignoring this ass-hat's submissions. Bzzt. Wrong.
Could Roland be a pseudonym for Jon Katz???
Can we get him fired too??? PLEASE?
According to RMS in Revolution OS, this was also the machine that he worked with at MIT. I believe it was the fact the he had access to all the code on the system that lead him down his path, believing that you need source code availability to fix/tweak/hack to your needs.

I love that someone modded this insightful. That's /. on the weekend! :)
I have to reply here, as this has been my signature for the last few months...
My head just exploded. I swear to God.

http://xulmaker.mozdev.org There you go. Will it "gain widespread acceptance" now?
Or a webcam in your oven? and in your bathroom?
ewwwwwewewew
Wait a second there...
I just registered gporn.com ;)
I'm gonna squat it for a while, see if someone ponies-up for it

Your mod should go up to eleven. I almost ruined another monitor with Coke(TM).
LOL, I knew I had it correct the first time. I reread (or is that rered) it and "corrected" it to lead.
Well, thanks for the pedanticism.

I stopped reading when I read the word "synergistic," like I always do.
You just /.ed google cache ;)
