I'll second the motion. It's a hugely intriguing game with a lot of depth and potential, if not reliance on people working together. There's definitely competition, though of a subtle nature.
I just didn't find it that funny. It lacked any kind of subtlety as compared with Calvin & Hobbes or Mutts for example./me ducks the stones and fish balls...
...what's it got to do with the game? Is there really anything in there (beyond a "mood") that should make me want to play it? Show me game footage and I'll get interested.
Already been posted, but what a load of commercial, not very useful crap.
Editors, why not create a new "Commercial" category for this kind of stuff? It's not the first time we've seen commercialism slip through. Or why not let us readers vote on stories even once posted? "Duplicate", "Useful", "Commercialism", etc.
Both great authors. Laumer has some great stuff and some hugely funny stuff in his Retief series. Simak writes some great stuff, including "Way Station" which I haven't read in ages but I still can remember the mystery and intrigue of the plot.
Hah! Yea I have my Qoole disk around too. I remember using Tread back around 1997 or so (?).
So there was some question about the difference between this editor and Radiant & Quark. Tread and Qoole are/were like Valve's Hammer editor in that they presented a very standardized display of the edited content - top/left/right/3d. Quark at least uses a very very different style of showing the 3d content that isn't your typical drafting/CAD style like the others. It's like using Blender instead of Maya if you know what I mean. Some people swear (swore?) by Quark but I could never get used to it (just like I can't get used to Blender).
I'm on a shuttle bus right now going between Portland and Corvallis Oregon, and Yahoo thinks I'm in Canada. Of course the fact that there IS wireless in this bus definitely makes the 2.5 hour ride a lot nicer:^)
Just like there are moron users and dangerous users who think they know what they are doing, there are moron IT staff and dangerous IT staff who think they know what they are doing. Then there are the IT people who are in love with bureacracy or operate with a cover-your-ass mindset.
Bottom line is, if the IT people suck then they should get the hell out of the way. If they don't suck, gladly let them do their job.

Who could forget, "Only a Factory Girl" or "By Honor Bound"? She may have been only a factory worker, but she had the pride of the Ormskirks!
I did "STFA" (S = Skim) but didn't really see a nice list of what kind of topics are suggested. Or are they saying, "come up with something mega awesome and we will give you money" perhaps? If so that's like a perpetual motion "designer" dream isn't it?:^)
Seems to be that younger scientists are by nature full of interesting and "outside the box" ideas. Money won't push them to do cool stuff unless it's to get them free of some of the limitations of academia.
That was my question too. What's the difference between skin, wool, cotton and dirt or bacteria? You can just imagine the warning tags. "A small percentage of wearers find their outer dermis eaten off by this cloth. If you experience itching, discomfort or excessive bleeding out of your pores, please discontinue use and see a doctor."
You took the words out of my mouth. "tux" in the nick is a clue.
And you know what? I just want to use my computer and have fun with all this cool stuff. I've been doing it for over 30 years and so far so good. I'm tired of the self righteous like the FUD masters at Boing Boing that are out to "save" me and "save" the public. If you really want to fix what you see is a problem, then fix it. Fix it with your creativity not with a pulpit.
Just 'cause I know it gets butchered at times. It's "The Dalles" like "The Pals". And "The" is part of the name. Oh and just in case, "Willamette" is like "Want to bet?" (not "met tee") and it's Will-AH-met not Will-ah-MET", plus "Oregon" which rhymes with "Washington", not "Bon Bon"
Blender absolutely sucks. If you aren't familiar with how to use it, it is confusing as hell. I do a ton of work in 3DS Max and Maya and have tried Blender several times, and it's just plain weird. Instead of trying to do it "better" or "different", why not make a 3DS Max or Maya clone the way Open Office just cloned Microsoft Office? The truth is, 3DS Max and Maya for all their quirks are really quite good, and it's what the majority of professionals use.
In Second Life, the "puzzles" are the creations of the players and the players themselves and the "monsters" are the other players and the interactions they enable.
I think Prof. Castronova used a poor choice of words. I think a better way to say it would be, "You need things to interact with that challenge you, and you need either AI or other players that give you challenges to overcome."
The idea of a SDV (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shuttle-Derived_Launch_Vehicle) seems a lot better idea to me than this massive new launcher. Builds on known technology, a lot less up-front cost, fewer unknowns, etc.
To me, these "other uses" are simply PR that's trying to salvage a program concept that's in deep trouble.
All you gotta do is tie a cardboard mask around your face with string, and you're good to go!
ROGUE dammit!

Screw directly to forehead.

Too bad there's not a sort of MMO that lets people do this kind of stuff. It could be pretty fun.

I'd like to use this data in our Lunar Quest game project. Anyone happen to find a link to the dataset online?

Sorry to see you modded down to zero Parent. I agree with you, and I would do my part to mod you up.
Is it really the "right thing" do this kind of vigilantly 'justice' modding the parent down to zero?

Ah interesting response - thanks for a thoughtful reply.

Just create a new steam account and register that one. A pain yes, but doable.
