$9.99 for some Tetris ripoff, which originally debuted for $19.99 a year previous.
$29.99 for an innovative game with low production costs, but never goes down in price.
$20.00 for a classic game that's more than 5 years old.
I'm talking Ambrosia, I'm talking PopCap, I'm talking Spiderweb. It is usually cheaper to buy regular "game-industry" games, if you can stand to wait a month for it to fall into the bargain bin.
If I recall, it goes something like this:
$49.99 - cost of boxes, CDs, manuals - cost of shipping - cost of shelf space - publisher's cut - cost of Hollywood voice actors - other big budget expenses ===========
$49.99
Give or take, but I have yet to see an Indie game priced at an "impulse buy" level.
Check out construction workers and Taxi drivers in New York. Or perhaps you should take a look at Bell South.
Construction workers! Taxi drivers! Infrastructure maintainers!
What do they all have in common? None of them can be done by a guy 1000 miles away. New York cab drivers have to work in New York. This is the labor equivalent of a captive audience. So congratulations, unions can make companies that have no other choice pay through the nose. Meanwhile most other businesses will give you the finger and move operations overseas.
I do not approve of a nuclear armed Israel. I think the treatment of Mordechai Vanunu should make clear to everyone in the world that the nation of Israel is not a nation with laws for freedom. If the security wall and slaughter of the Palestinians wasn't enough. Concerning the US' role in the establishment of Israeli nukes: I don't see how that could not have US involvement, although some point fingers at the UK.
Well that's just silly. First, France was the primary nation that helped start Israel's nuclear program.
Second, Palestinians were never slaughtered by Israel. Heck, their population has reached record numbers.
Third, the security wall/fence is a necessary measure due to the complete failure of the PLA to control terrorism. Furthermore, it's effective.
Finally, Vanunu should realize that there is a difference between speaking out against nuclear weapons, and revealing classified state secrets. If you tried the same gag in any other nuclear-armed nation, you'd be treated the same or worse.
You are quite nonsensical. It's bad to back Saddam, and bad to overthrow him? It's bad to establish formal relations with the official governments in the middle east? Pretty much the only mid-east nation to have a legitimate qualm with the U.S. is Iran. All the rest are just having propaganda-fueled hissy-fits over our support for Israel.
Al Qaeda has specifically stated their opposition to democracy as justification for their continued attacks on Iraq. Do you care?
Do you care that Afghanistan had yet another peaceful and successful election?
They say that the London bombings were because of the invasion of Iraq, but how many of the bombers were Iraqi? None. If you can ever figure out why that is, then maybe you might come to your senses someday.
Not to inspire panic, but how well have perhiperals done in the console arena again?
Mind you, an addon that is needed for backwards compatibility, and is available at launch, might succeed. Come to think of it, I guess that's what Microsoft is counting on too.
I own a Gamecube, myself. I consider the Gamecube to be a bigger success than the Xbox, despite selling a little less units.
When I say fail, I mean real failure. Worse than what befell the Dreamcast. I mean sales so low that EBgames and Wal*Mart stop stocking titles for the console. I, too, feel the call of Nintendo fanboyism, but you've got to keep some things in mind:
1) Even if the contoller tech is flawless, will gamers embrace it? It is a radical departure, after all.
2) Will 3rd parties bother with it? Some companies have voiced support, but most companies hedge their bets like that anyway.
3) And finally, nevermind the controller, the most disturbing news I saw was the language Nintendo used in their announcement. All the talk about appealing to non-gamers and making really "simple" games. Will they stop appealing to their loyal fanbase?
They talked about tapping into the mainstream, but I think its already tapped into. There is nothing particularly intimidating about a regular PS2-esque controller, IMHO. They're trying to solve a problem that's almost completely gone away on its own.
Parent poster was merely saying that, IF the Revolution fails and Nintendo is left without a "home console" system, that they should continue game development on the Xbox360 or PS3. The alternative would be to stop developing home console games at all, you see.
Could this ever happen? Sure. I've tried one of these babies, and while it was lightyears ahead of the Power Glove, I still couldn't imagine playing a game with it.
How many of the launch titles will likely be rated E for Everyone by the ESRB, other than perhaps the sport sims? If not, then how will Microsoft move enough consoles to claim a successful launch without selling to parents?
The titles probably haven't been submitted to the ESRB for a rating yet.
Then why do 60% of Americans believe that Saddam was connected to 9-11?
Poor reporting on the part of the media. If George Bush explicitly said it, and jailed people that disagreed, then you might have had a point.
Bush also tells the people that they hate America because they hate freedom and democracy. Another complete and utter bullshit lie used to insight hatred.
Have you ever read about Al-Qaeda (and other radical islamic) propadanda? It literally states that they are against democracy and most of the freedoms we enjoy (freedom of religion, freedom of speech, equal rights for women, etc.)
I know it makes you feel better to pretend that terrorists are rational people who want to give peace a chance, but that doesn't make it so. I'd recommend moving out of the ideological echo chamber that you're in.
Tricking monsters in Doom to fighting one another is not even vaguely close to portraying two opposing enemy factions fighting it out, in a big battle.
And no, having a handful of AI-controlled teammates isn't the same thing either.
"The terrorists attack us because we give them reason to attack us"
Yeah, like when the Jews invented AIDS to kill Muslims.
Or when the European powers tried to sterilize muslim women in Niger, with injections disguised as immunization shots.
Or when America used nuclear bombs to cause the tsunami in the Indian Ocean.
Or when Israel slaughtered thousands of civilians in the "Jenin Massacre".
What, none of the above ever happened? Well, all that (and worse) were widely reported and believed in the various countries of the Middle East. It's because their religious and political leaders incite hatred in the masses, in order to distract them from problems at home and solidify their own personal power.
And no, the same cannot be said about the United States of America.
"Ya see, we've got this big behemoth that is trying to tell us what to do, and they've recently shown that they aren't afraid to invade other countries, and they've made it abundantly clear that they consider us part of their "axis of evil," right there in the same category as the other countries they have invaded. They're totally fucking crazy, you know - they're the only country to have ever used a nuclear weapon on another country, and they've done it twice. Now they're posturing against us, pointing their nukes around the planet willy-nilly, and we've gotta defend ourselves. Now, we all know the concept of mutually assured destruction - it would be insane to attack a nuclear power using nuclear weapons, because nobody can win. They have nukes. We don't. They're pointing their nukes at us. We better hurry."
Because, you know, none of these countries have ever supported terrorism or sought nuclear weapons before Gulf War II....
I now have a new favorite haunt called The Exchange
I can't seem to find hide nor hair of this store on Google. "The Exchange" is just too generic of a term to search on. Even when coupled with "game" and "store".
To top this off, I am considering a new machine based largely off gaming performance for the first time in 3 years.
After three long years, getting a top-end (or near it) gaming machine will result in a more enjoyable non-gaming experience too. Even after telling yourself, "my computer does all I need it to do", you'll be surprised.
But if you're sticking with the Macintosh platform, you should wait until Apple releases the Intel-powered Macs. It'd be hard to justify getting a PowerPC-based Mac right now -- especially with all the positive feedback the developer Intel-Macs have been getting lately.
I've read that the Nintendo Revolution dev kit is very similar to thre previous generations, so the learning curve for existing developers won't be as much.
Same for the Xbox 360, according to the article. Its the 10x increase in rendering capacity that they're complaining about.
Yeah, it did have a steep learning curve. My wife and I figured at least some of it out, because we started winning games. But mostly through exploitation of the gameplay bugs.

Even this simple statement is debatable. (Thus proving your point.)
Number-wise, the main conflict in Iraq is the foreign-led terrorists vs. Iraqis, with Coalition casualties coming up second.
And the Palestine vs. Israel comment makes it sound like both sides are equally culpable.
They all save money on car insurance?

Well, some expansions to popular games are terrible. Just ask any veteran Everquest player.

So only children can buy violent games in Illinois? Neat.
Your post is funny, but not funny enough to replace the one in my current sig. So sorry, better luck next time.

I agree, to an extent.
I too was disappointed when I installed and played MOO3, and my wife was a MOO2 fan also so it was a double-disappointment.
But supposedly they patched all the game-wrecking bugs out of it (like how anti-missile lasers wouldn't work). I have not yet tried it again, however.
Indeed. Why, I just chatted with my neighbor, and it ended the genocide in Sudan for a whole day!
