Colbert, Stewart, and a lot of other charismatic, fun, but still strangely accurate, are taking over media. Sure, it's "Fake News" but the vast majority of their stuff is based on fact, much of it is taken out of context, and anyone with half a brain can take the inaccuracies out, and keep the truthiness.
I don't watch a lot of television, but from what I've seen of Colbert, his whole act seems to be a walking strawman. (The argument kind, not the farm kind.) There doesn't seem to be much else to it, other than trying to be funny about it.
I guess I just don't see the appeal. I don't want to be lectured at, even if it is sugarcoated in humor.
Except that I keep hearing people refer to Blu-Ray as HD-DVD. Blu-Ray may be a sleeker name, but HD-DVD is more straightforward. It has a much larger presence in the public consciousness.
I mean, you play a DVD on a TV, so you'd play an HD-DVD on an HDTV. The prefix "HD" has become common.
Most broken TVs seem to happen during Wii Sports Bowling. I guess the game is so intuitive that people let go of the controller just like they would a bowling ball. The fact that you do have to release the button only makes matters worse.
Funny anecdote: Apparently during testing, people playing the Tennis game would, during serves, throw an imaginary ball up in the air with their left hand before swatting it with the Wiimote.
> "I may risk buying a Shuffle - it's cheaper, with no moving parts."
My old 1GB Shuffle was pretty great, until Apple's firmware update bricked it. Computers wouldn't even recognize it enough to rollback the firmware update (or try it again).
Looked online afterwards and found out that this is a common issue.
If the USA made it possible for all Palestinians and Iraquis to have a TV, then terrorism in the middle East would soon collapse.
Where do you get the idea that televisions are rare in Iraq? As far as I know, they (and satellite dishes) are quite common.
And on the general subject of terrorism, it is quite clear that most terrorist attacks are done with the media in mind. I mean, why invite along that Reuters cameraman to film it? Why release neck-sawing videos?
I have to say, there are plenty of in-game books, events, and even some one-time events in World of Warcraft. (The opening of the gates of Ahn'Qiraj. The Scourge Invasion a few months back.) Quest chains often tell a story and reference the history of the Warcraft universe.
Am I the only one on Slashdot who thinks PS3 will eventually be a huge hit? Look forward 4 years down the line, and I think this console has better chances than Xbox 360 or the Wii (which I have pre-ordered).
If it takes 4 years for the PS3 to catch on, all the developers will have abandoned it by then. Hell, I'm not sure it can survive a single dead year without losing this generation.
to make things look good at that resolution you need a metric shitload of textures, and the PS3 can fit 50 GB of data onto a single disc.
But it can only have 256MB of textures per scene.
And it's not like the disc read times have increased as drastically as the storage capacity. But I guess Sony and long load times go hand-in-hand. (See: PS1, PS2, PSP)
Actual swordplay would have been fun, and at last it is possible with this kind of controller.
That's a common myth. The Wiimote looses its position if you point it too far away from the sensor bar. You've still got the other sensors, but that's not enough for accurate swordplay.
More power is not just about pretty graphics. It's about advanced physics, more interactive environments, a larger and more complex world, procedural synthesis, etc.
As cool as the Wii looks, it can't be your only console if you really want a "next gen" game experience.
Even if the U.S. annexed Canada (through force or diplomacy), it'd still be a bunch of oil/lumber/etc. companies selling stuff to the U.S. market. Hell, most likely it'd be the exact same companies. All this invasion paranoia is cute.
Frankly, unless Quebec secedes (a possibility), you won't see Canada and the United States merging.
it would be funny to see a muscle car trying to compete with even a semi sporty German/Japanese car around a UK country road, especially if it was wet:)
I spent about 2 weeks driving around England in a large BMW sedan. It wasn't very funny from my end.:(
Seriously, even the twistiest of American roads (here in Boston) are wide compared to your average UK road. And then people park on the side! Good god, Brits, improve your roads. Where does all that fuel tax go to anyway?
Yeah, because if a couple CIA employees get caught dealing drugs, then they're all evil commie drug traffickers who want to steal your bodily fluids. The fact that they got caught doesn't prove anything because it was all a show and AL QAEDA IS FAKE AND CIA 9/11 ZIONIST PEAK OIL DRILLING IN MY TEETH.
Iraq obtained its germ samples through normal scientific research channels. And not just from the U.S., either. I guess your worldview is a lot simpler when you get your news from editorials.
Oh, and we sold them "dual use" items that could be used for any number of applications? Big whoop. Surely you remember how the anti-war crowd reacted to the "aluminum tubes that could be used to refine uranium" incident. And that was long after, not before, Iraq was under restrictive sanctions.
But are you including organizational time? You know, picking out a 20 or 40 person group, agreeing on roles, getting everyone together, etc. All that crap can easily add an hour.
Hm... I wonder if the new Looking for Group interface can be used for guild-only parties. Say, you could specify that 15 slots could be filled by guild members, and 5 would be open to the public. Along with all the other options, that could streamline things nicely...
Lots of solo and 5-man content in the expansion, or so I hear. The PVP system revamp, in particular, seems to lend itself to hopping in and out.
I quit WoW earlier this year, myself. I had the time to play, but I never seemed to have the uninterrupted time to play. I'm really itching for the expansion pack, though. (Plus the other improvements I may have missed.)

:-O
I... I love you.

The ACLU has dropped all cases against the Patriot Act, satisfied that enough revisions have been done.
Apparently you didn't get the memo?

Oh yeah, in 2 or 3 years the PS3's price will drop to a reasonable amount, allowing mass adoption.
I'm sure most developers will stick around until then, completely loyal to Sony.
You'll probably love the upcoming Arena-based PVP matches. Not to mention the other stuff coming in the expansion.
Personally, I got tired of Warsong Gulch after a few days at level 19. Mostly because of the lame twinkers.
It's not an addiction. It's just something I have to do all the time.
If you're an Apple zealot who's jacking off to the article, you'd continue reading. I'm not sure about anyone else.

Everquest is bland and clunky. Ditto for EQ2.
If it takes 4 years for the PS3 to catch on, all the developers will have abandoned it by then. Hell, I'm not sure it can survive a single dead year without losing this generation.
Fun Fact: The ACLU recently dropped their lawsuit against the Patriot Act. They apparently are satisfied that it's been revised enough.
I guess it's easy to miss positive stories in the news.

Hell, they can't even do that part right. All the PS3 commercials I've seen have the date appear like this:
Where the ones and the slash look identical.

You just said it - Israel never signed the non-proliferation treaty. Iran did.
Thus it's not hypocritical to try to hold Iran to the treaty.
