The built-in networking really appeals to me. It supports both WiFi and Bluetooth. That means you can play across the internet using WiFi or with somebody 30 ft away from you using Bluetooth.
Having twice the general purpose registers will typically improve performance 10-20% just by recompiling everything into 64 bit mode. The grandparent is smoking some major crack.
I bought an elliptical machine for my house and I have lost over 20 lbs now. I like ellipticals better than treadmills because they have much less impact which helps your knees.
You have to make exercising a priority or else you will get nowhere. I used to be about 10 lbs over my ideal weight, and now I'm 10 under and am in the maintenance mode (I don't want to lose anymore!). I have increased energy and feel great. I don't feel like such a sack of shit when I haul up loads of stairs.
Here are some things that helped me that might help you. 1) Drink only 0 calorie things. No pop, No juices. Just water or diet pops (I've actually developed a taste for Diet Pepsi after having hated the stuff all my life). 2) My workout routine is simply 25 minutes at max, 5 minutes cooldown. The machine tells me I'm doing about 200-240 watts. Equals about 400 calories burned when I'm done (though I think the calculation is a little off because other machines rate it higher, like 500). I work out every other day, usually at night when I get back from work. DO NOT SKIP A DAY. If you do, make it up by doing two in a row. I tend to eat at 6 o'clock or so, then I let my system digest and then I workout in the 8-9 hour. Throw in a DVD or charge up the iPod, and I'm kept busy. 3) Avoid high-calorie foods. Basically, eat whatever you want. No restrictions on fat or anything. But avoid super high-calorie foods. For example, don't buy an apple pie from McDonalds (they are like 500 calories!!).
Via the wonders of the Internet control panel, you can actually change the default security settings! Intelligent users (i.e. Linux users who use XP on occasion) will go there and change their settings to automatically disable the installation of ActiveX controls! What a concept!
Plus, think about all the newbie Linux folk who always run as root? How is that any different?
Educated users do not have to fear security. They know how to conquer it. Unfortunately, there is a very low percentage of educated users.
If the country can get (or doesn't care to) get spammers under control, like has happened in other counties, then the rest of the world should take matters into their own hands.
Are you saying that other countries have spammers under control??? What country is this? I will move there immediately!
QNX's filesystem is HORRENDOUSLY slow. I had two partitions, of roughly 20 gigabytes in size on the same disc. I performed a dd to copy the one partition into the other. I returned 10 hours later, to find it still running.
I wise up, pop in a Linux rescue CD, and perform the dd in about 20 minutes.
The networking is slow. Try doing a find / over a telnet session. Ouch.
It's pretty quick if you stay in your own process;-)
I have used Windows for a long long time and have never experienced any of the problems that the author claims. It seems like he has a beef with Windows and generalizes for all installations. For example: A typical Windows system follows a simple lifecycle: it starts out with a clean Windows installation, which gradually deteriorates as programs are installed, and uninstalled. Eventually, the Windows registry accumulates so much crud that the user is forced to do a clean install. When a user does a clean install that user's system loses all the previously applied security updates, and becomes a sitting duck for worms and other malware.
A Windows system doesn't deterioriate if you know what you're doing. The author clearly assumes that the uninstallation packages actually work. This is a fatal mistake. I always manually look in the registry for left-overs when I do an uninstallation. I just uninstalled Mozilla? I find all Mozilla folders underneath HKLM/HKCU and delete them too. This tends to work well except when dealing with COM object registration (which is a nightmare).
Then he tries to run a registry cleaner on his system. You know those warnings that say "MAKE SURE YOU BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY"? Well they say that for a reason. Back it up. Then when the shit hits the fan like the author said, he can restore from a boot disc.
Yeah the registry is a pain sometimes, but combined with some experience and know-how, you can keep a system running without having to reinstall.
If you're excited about your 900 MHZ AMD running Doom III WELL, you can pretty much forget about it. You might be able to squeeze 320x240 at a decent frame rate. But don't count on it;-)
For me to poop on!
You can't use the XBox to rip movies since there's no video input.
You can do a DVD dump however, but you could also do that on any regular PC with a DVD-ROM.

Cool!
When is the execution?
Did you flunk math?
(2^32)*2 = 2^33
Actually, the Genesis was only capable of displaying 64 colors on screen at a time which is why the SNES ended up looking a hell of a lot better.
For nifty old hardware info, check Gamefaqs
Well I did say typically improves, so it won't improve in all cases.
I too would be interested in seeing results from a highly optimized x86_64 compiler.

Not just diet sodas, pretty much any carbonated drink. But if you want to get nit-picky, nothing is really healthy for you ;-)

Dude, don't forget Freecell!
For the love of god, don't forget Freecell!!!

Don't you mean (255,0,0) hot? ;-)
Yet technically (0,0,255) would be the hottest

The PSP looks pretty slick and more professional as well
The DS design is not final. Look for an updated design within the next few months.
The review said that the XBox has problems dealing with the 720p trailing, pushing the CPU to its limits.
I want to be able to view a DVD or a 720x480 MPEG2 stream at 1080i, will the box be able to perform?
The race already started long ago. Probably even as they were releasing this generation (2001-2)
Those are only two games that require it. And for all the information that each player needs, it was an appropriate decision the developers made.
If you don't like it, don't buy the game. It's that simple. They wanted to try something new, not to piss you off and force you to buy a GBA.
Balrog character?
Show some respect for your new overlord, GANON!

I'm afraid I have to agree with this post. I dual-boot and IE beats the crap out of firefox on my machine.
Konqueror seems much faster though, on par with IE.
And with it you'll be able to play Capcom's new Super Mega Hyper Street Fighter IV - Turbo Rainbow Edition.
At my old school, Lehigh University, all terminals have access to Internet1+2. This means all the little freshman can share like mad on both pipes.
If one of your P2P buddies happens to be on Inet2 as well, you are going to get a pleasant speed surprise.
