Years ago, one of my cow-orkers was clearly an "A" in tech skills. He knew his stuff better than anyone else there. However, he got fired because he had an "F" attitude.
It's not a good thing. If bitcoin truly does threaten TPTB, they can and will squash it. Yes, I know there will also be criminals using it for Silk Road, money laundering, and tax evasion, but as a legitimate currency, it will be dead.
A more dangerous cyber threat would be malware that collects all the users personal information and stores it until the malware writer is ready to use it against the victim.
I still have pay TV, and probably will for awhile longer, but the handwriting is clear. Every year, I find regular TV to get worse. The ads drive me nuts, and I hate it when a show I like goes on hiatus for a few months. I'm watching more on Netflix, and less on regular TV. Eventually, either Netflix will get good enough for me to cut the cord, or TV will piss me off enough to do so.
I've never gotten into binge watching. I'd usually rather watch one show, then take a break and watch something else, and go back to the first series later. However, I do enjoy dumping the commercials. All things being equal, I'd rather watch Netflix, without ads, than regular TV, even with the ability to FF past the offensive ads.
One of the sites I visit is known for timing out. I'm always seeing someone post "WTF, I just lost a 20 page post", following by a dozen people saying "Write it in Word/Notepad next time".
I thought a lot of the improvement in modern cars is because the Asians and Europeans were producing superior cars, and the Americans had to get better or go broke, as people were willing to pay higher prices for cars that didn't suck.
I do, however, agree that having a few big companies agree not to improve their crap is a very bad thing for the consumer.
It could still be an issue. I don't know how close those community boxes will be. If they're a few houses down, you might be right. If they're farther, someone who can live independently but is old, might have trouble. I drive my mom to the grocery store weekly, but she's used to getting her mail daily.
Navigation is distracting. Navigation now is less distracting. Both in the past and now, if you have a passenger you should let them navigate / be in charge of messing with the gps.
I agree. However, letting my GF navigate while I'm driving has frequently gotten us lost.
I've had death threats and threats to burn down my house from commenters, not on/., before for simple things like saying abortion is a hot button topic. Not even picking a side, just pointing out people get riled up over it. I'd be willing to stand behind anything I post in a public forum, but I have a wife and child and don't want some overly conservative, overly liberal or someone with an extremist view on some other topic showing up at my house with a molotov cocktail while we're asleep or while I'm away on business. I have no delusions that I'm anonymous and know I *could* be tracked down, but I'm not going to just hand out that info. There are too many crazies out there.
I know of someone who got fired from her job over something she posted on a forum. That particular forum was not viewable to the general public, so it's likely that another forum member outed her, or maybe a boss or cow-orker was a member of that forum. After that, she got her id changed to something other than her realname, but I don't think that will help, since several people there know that newname == realname. The horse is out of the barn.
The Loch Ness Monster is a unique case. It's quite possible to prove there is no such monster in the Loch, unless it has abilities far beyond being a mere monster (invisibility, dimensional shifting, etc). However, you cannot prove there isn't a similar monster somewhere in the unexplored depths of the oceans.

Is it still legal to make decent light bulbs in China?
Since the world is already made, it would nice if the omnipotent being would make a bunch of decent light bulbs for us.
It's apparently a white flag. Does that mean that the nation that put it there is surrendering?
No, it means that the moon is property of France.
Damn, I wish I had modpoints!
Well, so far the inhabitants of the moon have yet to overthrow our rule.
Unless our GMO exports are full of lead (which wouldn't really surprise me), the two aren't equivalent.
So, that means it would also f**k up my Dropbox stuff?

I don't like coming home to a cold house. With a Goog-thermostat, I could turn the heat up when I leave work so it will be warm when I get home.

Oops!
What's funny is, I used to hear that if you DLd from pirates, you risked viruses. Then came Sony.

One of my peeves is when I watch an old show, some of it gets cut because there are more commercials than when the show originally aired.

Nope. I can put specific items in my blue recycling bin, but CFL's aren't on the list.

Which supports the claims that both parties are really the same.
Even with Tivo, it might take a few seconds to grab the remote and skip past those SOBs, and those few seconds, it can still blare at you.

99% of my transaction are online. But I still write checks to the guy who mows my lawn.

Yup! Big difference between the car being pushing for his mom and his mom pushing the car. :)
