I have several computers around the house at work etc . . .

    From my point XP works.

Vista was a boondoggle that someone stole money from you if you paid for it.

Win7 while I like and functions a bit better still can not be configured as easy or as well as XP. You can find out how . . . software . . . everything that can make XP do what a user would just about ever want to do . . . Win7 is far from that ability.

( btw : I have found Win7 so useful it is running a headless server . . . yes, it is reliable and works but just still not enough for the main desktop )

  5. It makes sense on China Is Winning Global Race To Make Clean Energy · · Score: 0

As the need(s) in China for power become greater it would make sense they would advance faster into the new more efficient technologies. And if you are going to build something where you need to employ the masses - support building it at home (ie in China).

Most of the United States (and Europe) power is from an aging existing system. This was once new technologies but like an old car or truck . . . drive it to the grave and hope it lasts as long as possible. Driven by the econimics of every squeezing every last dime before I invest heavily into something new.

So as long as the cost of the existing product is affordable and makes due - there is no reason to upgrade or grow.

China is at the buying stage for something new. It isn't a question of upgrading but bringing the services to the masses, and yes - they have masses on a scale that no other country face ( combined ).

  6. Monitor you page in / out counts on How Big Should My Swap Partition Be? · · Score: 0

I noticed when I exceeded 2 gb on both the Wintel and Mac side my page swaps dropped to 0 page in/out.

With a 0 swap in / out I have eliminated ALL my swap spaces. I have over the years encounter too many problems with hard drive failures / errors and the operating system to not recover from simple errors which will occur with year of writing the same data over and over (frequently it is the few processes that access these swap spaces anymore).

Also if you are running Photoshop - creating a dead drive space for just the swap disk is useful when working on LARGE data . . . Earse this space / drive from time to time to eliminate stupid errors that develop over time (shame there are few simple methods to do the same for vitual memory spaces).

  7. Get some balls RIAA (cowards) on RIAA Now Filing Suits Against Consumers Who Rip CDs · · Score: 0

It is easy to go after a consumer...

Now it is time to get the balls and take on Apple, Microsoft or anyone that sells, makes and produces anything that plays mp3(s) etc... Sony has packaged ripping software with it's players (/wonders if they where smart enough to sue themselves).

I know if it where not for these players and the ability to place my collection onto them, I wouldn't be buying any music. There is so little music out the now that is new or just not crap. Gone are the days of producing, signing talent and developing music for the long run. Welcome to the days of RIAA suing and blaming everyone else for their own ignorance and failure at doing business.

  10. What Music ? on Elton John Says Internet is Destroying Music · · Score: 0

Music is stagnant IMO due to the record companies and songwriters. Shame on those like Elton who will sell out his music for the pretty boy or girl front singer who doesn't have the talent to open a twist top on their bottled water. There are some good bands out there but karaoke is the popular path - looks sells - screw the songwriting, musical abilities... both can be rented like a used whore . . . and if she might be able to sing too (bonus).

Most, not all, but many of the older bands that still tour and play today would never really get signed today. Many of them really had no scale to their vocals, some where down right ugly, limited musical skills outside their own style... but when staying within their skills (and music), they did kick ass because there was talent.

When looks out way talent ... yea - that $18 + cd looks pretty, but sounds like ?

  14. Move on or get out of the gaming world... on World Of Warcraft Crushing PC Game Industry? · · Score: 0

True that WoW introduced a new experience to those who played MMO and those who did not. There where many 'noobs' in WoW on it's release. I think, as most will perhaps agree... even Blizzard was overwhelmed at that. Take a fairly good game maker, concept, product(s) and let them make a MMO. That risk paid off.

But this is now... the people who are playing WoW are looking elsewhere to entertainment. Almost two years of playing the same old Pally even sucks. There isn't much out there because of the other game makers fear to compete. Their looses. Shame that many of the 'experts' have such little insight at times... They are failing their companies with not thinking... WoW is a FAD - it will go away - I know I want something outside of WoW to play. Now here is my money... please help me spend it. Damn - - - only trash games out there.

I must agree... damn - the skill trades in WOW are crap - my time to farm or pay for farming... Daaaaa

I am not a farmer and I have played enough of these games to grow tired of the farming concept. Kill 1,000,000 mobs for 1000 g which will take several weeks and massive time or I can pay $50 or my 1000 g. This concept is worth an hour or two of my time at work to pay for play.

Blizzard can kill the 'farmer' by suppling the gold to the selling companies (many games have done this). But Blizzard chooses not to. Bottom line : I can afford to buy the gold and consider the action of farming worthless... I buy gold. Support the 'Chinese' gold farmer and help him / her make a living - sure - visited there and trust me - there are far far worse jobs to be had (check your Fruit of the Looms, shoes and sex enslavement businesses).

BTW : My son's 16 yo friend will level a peep to 60 and sell it every two to three weeks or so... he lives in game (and is the geek extra pale white boy with no social skill out of game). He gets a few bucks out it - takes most of the gold / best items from the peep ... hey - ban him too ?

Perhaps the whining greedy bastards should quit bitching about loss of sales / piracy and start looking at the product (or lack there of).

  23. Re:they dont make money... on Seattle Axes Monorail Project · · Score: 0

Las Vegas monorail is a cute tourist attraction and not really much more. Who lives along the route ?... I seem to recall it only runs along the strip. So I don't have to walk from my cheap Imperial Palace room to the Mirage in the 100+ degree evening and break a sweat.

The Bart in San Francisco / Oakland is a transportation system that serves commuters and works very well to move people from someplace to somewhere.

Little Red Trolley (the thing in San Diego) to me fell between the mass transient / cute thing. The cars are on the small side - fill quickly during commuting hours (they add trains), the routes go into commutable areas... but it isn't very efficient on time to commute vrs drive / bus.

Monorail while cute - currently really goes no where that a well run bus system operates at. Nor will it move much beyond the cute aspect as far as getting people into town that more or less don't already live close enough for a well run bus system. 11 Billion dollars +/- a few billion here and there for adding 14 or 10 miles of line really isn't much of a solution to anything.

I live near Seattle - take the monorail when I visit there (3 - 5 times a month). I didn't miss it when it was broken... how is it's value suppose to become worth billions ?
