This is not an audio CD. It cannot bear the logo that all standard, red-book-following CDs do. You may call it anything but an audio CD.
IIRC, the red book standard also stated that the 2 second pause between audio tracks is the mark of a compliant disc. If this is the case, then many cds technically aren't up to standard.
I can certainly see the subtlety of this growing trend.
Even though bars don't haul out a Xerox machine to copy every license that comes though the door, many I go to have camera boxes that IDs are inserted into to keep a photographic record of each entry. Its done so quickly, one can hardly notice.

As far as your average dvd on a windows box is concerned, a little lurking in the registry will turn up the region code the drive is set for. Change this to whichever region you need.
I can't say for sure on linux, since I haven't any out-region-discs anymore to play on by my linux box.
No mention here made of all of the remote controlled devices that have become a part of daily living.
I wonder if these people crap themselves every time they change the TV channel or open the garage door.....
