  1. It's just a video game on Blizzard Exposes Detailed WoW Character Data · · Score: 1

There is no personal information being made available. There is no privacy concern. This is just a case of pvp kiddies getting upset that they might lose a slight edge in a PvP system that isn't even based off of skill, but rather time invested. It remains to be seen if the new arena system will change that at all. That, and arena matches are pretty short anyways, so the odds of someone looking you up to see your gear/build before a match are pretty slim.

and yes, I play, and I could really care less if anyone sees what PvP team im on or what gear/skills/etc i have.

  2. Re:Start the death watch! on XM And SIRIUS Radio Merging · · Score: 1

I signed up for XM a few years back, when the portable myFi first came out. I had to sign a one year contract, and in return, got the player for free after rebates. As soon as the year was up, I cancelled. Reception was non-existant when on campus, which was the reason I got it - to have music to listen to in between classes. All I could do was record 5 hours of programming ahead of time. If i am going to listen to pre-recorded music, I'd rather do it on my iPod, which replaced my XM service. I would never go back to paying for satellite radio.

  3. Re:Some consumers are put off by the cost boast on Interplay Developing $75 Million Fallout MMOG · · Score: 1

They (Interplay) are not boasting about the cost of development. The 'announcement' is a nothing more than a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, outlining plans to sell common stock in order to raise funds to develop the game. That would explain why there is a lack of detail regarding features, and plenty of detail regarding dev costs, return on investment, etc.

if you pay $20 a cd, you are buying them at the wrong places. If there are only 1-2 tracks you consider 'good', you must not care for the artist too much, so why buy the CD in the first place? I can't think of any CD i have bought recently where I didn't enjoy the entire CD.

if you are buying the flavor of the month pop garbage, it's your own fault for contributing to the studios coffers, so they can have someone new on the lineup next month.

this is from their press release. how can they possibly claim to have shut down 40% of the servers, when it is near impossible to gauge how many other bittorrent hubs are out there? One of the most incorrect claims i've ever seen.

  20. They did a 180 on Half Life 2 Available, Delays Not Valve's Fault · · Score: 2, Interesting

When i went in to work thursday, BB had sent a note out to employees telling them not to sell HL2. Some stores had started selling it early apparently. If a competitor had a receipt showing they bought it from us early, they could start selling it without fear of losing allocated shipments of the game, or not being able to receive future VU games before their street dates. The retailer on the receipt would face those issues.

So, it looks like BB managed to get a receipt from another retailer selling early. Wouldn't surprise me to see the game for sale nationwide by the end of the day. I doubt Valve will start activating copies early, however.

Having read about problems like this before, i knew what needed to be done. Fix it myself, since Sony won't recognize it as a defect in the system and repair it for you. Unless you want to shell out a ton of dough for shipping and repair costs, which almost cost as much as a new PS2 would. It is a common issue with the PS2s, and its simple to fix. Yet sony wont accept the responsibility for it.

  25. Dont stop supporting blizzard... on Blizzard Stomps Bnetd in DMCA Case · · Score: 1

I will still support blizzard. They make quality games, that provide plenty of entertainment for my buck. I never saw any need for bnetd, because battle.net meets my needs just fine.

Not only that, but probably 95% of the people behind the games at blizzard have absolutely nothing to do with this case. Even if they didn't care about the bnetd software, their parent company, VU Games, would have put their legal team on the case.

Of course, most of these replies have very little to do with the bnetd server/software, and more on the aspects of reverse engineering, dmca, and eula agreements. Crucify blizzard all you want, this case was going to come eventually, wether from blizzard or from some other gaming company.

anyways, im gonna go play some more of the world of warcraft beta, and stare at the preorder box sitting on my desk. It is hands down the best mmorpg i've played (and i've played most of them).
