If only the cable company would follow suit...

VoIP Price War Declared
·
· Score: 5, Insightful
I have considered vonage, because of the low international rates, but I don't want to dedicate a certain portion of my bandwidth for my telephone service. My upstream is hosed enough as it is, let alone dedicating part of it to phone use.
I would love to see a drop in prices for my cable modem service however. Since i got a cable modem 4 years ago, my bill has gone up 5 bucks. Meanwhile, new subscribers get their first 6 months at 29.95. After that, if they call to cancel, they are given another 6 months at 29.95 (I know this for fact, my dad called to cancel his account, and they offered him this deal).
Meanwhile, a 4+ year subscriber like myself calls, and says they are thinking of switching to Earthlink from Roadrunner, since it is 3 bucks cheaper a month, and they give 6 months at 29.95, they do nothing to try and keep me as a customer.
Of course they don't tell you that it is essentially the same service, since Earthlink goes through the Time Warner lines. So techinically they are not losing the customer. Which begs the question, how can Earthlink charge less per month?
On top of which, Comcast and Time Warner are working on a coop bid for the remains of adelphia, which will only damage competition even further in the cable industry. *sigh*
sorry for the mostly off topic rant, but it bugs me to see services like this that can slash prices left and right in the name of competition, and the cable companies are still firm in their prices.
The 223-193 vote in favor of blocking the rules defied the White House. A threatened veto applied to veto a massive spending bill, now on the House floor, if it contains any language tampering with the rules that took effect Aug. 23.
am i the only one who thinks this is worded very strangely....cant really understand what it is saying. bush is threatening to veto a veto? they are vetoing a veto? or there is only one veto?
real confused on that one.

you do realize, that both you and best buy were ripped off. i would almost guarantee it was some other customer who did the swap, and returned it to best buy. they sold you a sealed retail box, and as far as they know, you could have taken it home and swapped the cards yourself.
i am about sick of people talking about remaking or fixing or saving star wars or whatever. It's not your film, so you have no right to alter the films. get over it. Lucas is going to make movies the way HE wants to make them, not the way a bunch of whiny geeks on the internet want them. Love em or hate em, they are his movies, and if you don't like it, you can show it with your wallet.
sure, NTFS is the file system of choice for newer windows boxes. but there are still plenty of other devices using the FAT system, such as digital cameras, mp3 players, personal video recorders, etc. still plenty of money to be made.
How are you supposed to know whats going to be on sale? It's called the ad. It is bundled in all the other ads with the newspaper on Thanksgiving morning.
They dont want the deals being leaked, because it gives the competition a chance to one-up them. For instance, if circuit city sees that best buy is offering item X at 50% off, they will be inclined to offer it at 55% off, or vice versa.
I dont see why there is any need to post this information weeks in advance, or for the retailers to threaten over it.
you've gotta be f'ing kidding me. 36-48k, and they prefer you have your PhD? And 10+ years of experience? Somehow, i dont think someone with 10 years of project experience and a PhD is going to jump at an entry level job.
On a related note, I thought I heard that Office 2003 only runs on 2000 and XP. I see a trend here. Soon the only software Microsoft will offer will be Windows XP and Office.
I dont really see anything wrong with this. WinXP is the current version of windows, therefore MS should develop their software around it. If someone is still running win95/98 out there, chances are, they arent the type of person who is going to rush out and buy Office2003. And also, chances are, that computer running 95/98 dont have the resources to run office2003.
And if someone is running windowsME, they need to get a fucking clue.
chances are, when you call into the dell cust service center, you are told "your calls may be recorded for quality control, blah blah blah". So if they require you to agree to your conversation being recorded, you tell them you are also recording the call. you might not even have to tell them, seeing as how them getting you to agree to the call being recorded should mean they agree to the call being recorded as well.
if i recall correctly, it was actually best buy...i saw it on 60 minutes or 20/20 or something...
anyhoo, also a search on google turned up nothing, but a search on google groups for 'man arrested "best buy"' turned up lots...it was back in 1997 or so......
he was recording prices on his laptop in the store, was arrested, sued for 90k, lost, spent tons of money, made bad publicity.
Id like to go on the record that ive received my most recent rebates from best buy. And before you go knocking best buy, was it actually a Best Buy rebate, or from the item's manufacturer... for instance, i always buy my CDRs at best buy with rebates...the rebates get mailed back to Imation, Memorex, etc, not best buy...so they really arent to blame if i dont get the rebate.
i just got two rebates in the mail for two monitors i bought there...both 'VPR', the best buy house brand.
I actually prefer the best buy method of rebates, their terminals print you an original receipt, all rebate forms, and a "rebate receipt" for each rebate form.
No, it does not necessarily negate the validity, but you definitely need to take it with a grain of salt. They arent going to fund or publish any sort of research that goes against their values and beliefs, and therein lies the problem. It is just as biased a report as say, a report by the RIAA on why we shouldnt pirate music.
Incorrect, 'they' have not made a movie your kids cannot watch. 'they' have nothing at all to do with what your kids can or cannot watch. Only you, the parent, are in control of what the can or cannot watch.
In your case of the movie being marketed towards 15-17 year olds, if you are that naive to think they havent already seen/talked of/experienced the same situations in this movie by that age, you should open your eyes. When i was that age (a few years back, less than you can count on one hand), 'sexuality' was nothing my peers and i were unfamiliar with. The girls were and still are very aware of the sexual power they have over boys, and the boys are horny devils who sneak playboys and pornos to get their rocks off. Christ, im shocked when i pick up my brother at school to see how the girls are dressed nowadays. Well now that im done ranting, i repeat, a little sexuality in the movie is nothing they havent seen before. And if your kids are younger than that, well then the movie isnt really marketed towards them, so theres nothing to worry about, at least for a few more years.
Hardly a waste. This man has his masters degree, and is on his way to getting his doctorate, from MIT no less. Far more than your average 30 year old.
Im not sure where you came up with 26 years for how long his peers have been working in "the real world", but Ill go with it. So, 30k * 40 = 1.2mil...spread that out over 26 years, and thats only a little over 46k a year.
Meanwhile, by the time this man has 26 years of "real world" work experience, he will be pulling in well over 46k a year with his masters, let alone a doctorate. As the article indicates, he has already taught civil engineering at MIT, is the lead scientist at iRobot, and winning this award will only give the company better recognition.
As for it being a hobby type robot, that would only make it all the better. Noone would turn down 30k for something they put together as a hobby, let alone thier doctoral thesis.
You also indicate he does not like to be social, and is not married, neither of which are addressed in either article.
At least you got one thing right, his mommy sure can be proud.
Im sure you mean scum in the nicest way. But seriously, this is the type of immaturity we deal with on a daily basis. People who hide behind their phones, ridiculing and belittling us for the work we do. Its nothing I am ashamed of, its a job. It pays the bills, it pays for school, it puts the food on the table. In this downward spiraling economy, I am happy to have a job in a company that is constantly growing and expanding. While other companies slash jobs, we are hiring as quickly as possible. If telemarketing didnt wasnt successful, we wouldnt have these jobs. Rant and rave all you want, but fact of the matter is, enough people respond to our calls for us to remain profitable and employed.
And as you pointed out AC, my email addres is kjeldor@kjeldor.net. That is my domain, if you really want my home phone, go ahead and do a whois on the domain. I look forward to hearing from you, i am sure you have loads of good things to say.

read the article. the pouch the food comes in filters out 99.9% of all bacteria, as well as chemicals. so only the clean water gets through.
I got my gmail account a few days ago, and the invite was sent to my hotmail account. No problems.
I just now sent a message from my gmail account to my hotmail account, and it was received just fine.

most people i have come across that are big into the import scene also import the system, so mod chips arent required.
most people i have come across that have modded their system have done so in order to play copied games.
so i would say the article isn't too far off.
Parent modded insightful? Pshhh....

First up is the Max Payne Pumpkin i carved this year, followed by a pumpkin modelled after the chick on the back of the Vice City Map. Enjoy.
