but one can't help but wonder if such a device will breed less assertive graduates who lack the will to stand up and voice their opinion on sensitive issues
Sounds like a luddite to me...Who's to say these kids won't be more assertive? Usually they would not talk in class for fear of peer response. I think once they can express their ideas, and see that the response from their peers is not negative, they would probably be more assertive...
It's silly to fear something for a _possible_ negative when it's completely new.
I beg to differ... =) It is buggy, and Microsoft isn't evil, they are a corporation, and as such, are trying to make as much money as possible -> which usually leads to skullfucking the little guy and exploiting loopholes in sloppy laws. Maybe, as a corporation, they are evil, but what can you do?
Y'know, it's not Microsoft's fault for assuming that Joe Public isn't some completely uneducated _moron_ who doesn't know the basic vocabulary of the english language.
It's perfectly reasonable to think that someone knows what "Vista" means.
I also think a problem with a lot of products nowadays is that these companies who are making the product are afraid of losing the public user, and are consequently "dumbing down" the software - name, interface, you name it. To me this is aggravating the situation, not solving it -- Why can't people educate themselves?
Computer science is something completely different from the norm. It's almost surreal. I think it should be classified in a realm all by itself. You can make some incredibly dense scientific code, and yet also at the same time, the code can be quite poetic -- artistic even.
Not to mention the possibilities that computing offers us - I don't think of it merely as science nor merely as an art - to me it's both.
I've got a genius idea to solve our problem: stop invading and occupying countries that posed zero threat to us whatsoever.
I think you're a little confused on that issue, Iraq has a lot of control over our (our as in North America) oil that we so ravenously consume, and upon which we are highly dependant. i.e. They can control our oil supply -- dangerous.
I think the better idea is to stop invading and occupying countries under false pretenses. I wouldn't have minded if Bush went to war because he wanted to control the oil - I'm sure a lot of Americans would have minded, and hey, I'm not American, but at least he would have been telling the truth.
Why bother with Black and White photography when you can do basic filtering like black and white and sepie on most digital cameras? Am I missing out on something that Black and White Film has? Does it have better contrast or something?
It has a mini DVI jack that you can connect to an external monitor - I believe that it comes included with the necessary cables in the box. - However, just with the regular OSX and software included with the machine, it's only Mirrored screen - there is probably a hack somewhere you can download to make dual desktop.
Just like to take a minute and thank all you early adapters. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be able to buy my PSP with better battery life, guaranteed no dead pixels, and an included 10 GB drive in about a year or so. You're the ones who are financing it -- so keep it up! Thanks!
If you have trouble downloading the songs, you might try copying the address for the song and stripping the leading "http://www.timebit.com/sonic2/"
The songs are there, you just have to find them.

Man, Steve Jobs must be stubborn as hell!
It's still not (really) a two button mouse!!

That was under the category: "The Other Side"
If you click on breaking news, it seems fairly respectable enough.. I'll wait til I see this on CBC though.

MSNBC (ugh.. I know) April 27

So how come we haven't heard more about this? Does it not produce a lot of energy?
If you are a Sasquatch. The S-Controller is much much better to the average non-yeti-sized human.
I resemble that remark!
I agree, I think Lucas should remake the first two. ;P
When you say sound output, are you referring to when you have your headphones plugged in?

For some reason, this reminds me of the two guards in Monty Python arguing about how a coconut got to England.
... I always thought it was soo-see? Or, at the very least, soose?
I fail to see how an infinitely long time interval can be a constant... ?
Nm me, I'm just being an ass =P
You must be an OS 9 user originally. I use linux and OSX and I have to say that OSX has a really nice functionality to it.
I'm curious about the illogical ui frustrations you're having.
Something smells fishy!
"Neutered"
Or, at least, that's what MS would have us believe.. =D
I didn't spend any money on games last year. What shmuck is spending 1400$ to balance out the average???
:P
I know, I know, I'm skewing the stats - but isn't that what statistics are all about?
Don't you mean hella stupid? =P
Damn Straight! I for one enjoyed Mario Sunshine - even though it was terribly cutesy and slightly childish...

You know what really rocks? That's from a BEER commercial. Yeah, we have our priorities straight. =D
