And yes, I would not disregard a report from a scientist based on incorrect writing -- that should be left to the scientific endeavour -- ie. if the science is good, then so's the paper! Although, if the scientist was lazy enough not to correct his/her spelling, grammer, etc. maybe his/her paper wasn't as thoroughly researched...

yes, but cpus allready have speedstep and similar so that when on battery it will throttle down to conserve energy. how often do you need full cpu anyways? we have past the point where a pcu got a good run for its money from editing a spreadsheet. only thing that may push it a bit today is spellchecks and autocorrection. and atleast one of those i turn of instantly as they often make more of a mess then i do :P

My God. I'd hate to see the results of that. =P

Are you kidding?! Computers are everywhere! People are needed to program those things -- who's going to do it? The engineers? HA! Don't make me laugh.

Computers are only going to get more wide-spread and ubiquitous from now on -- which means they'll need more programmers. Also, I really don't think that outsourcing is going to be a problem in a couple of years, you need to have your development team close by for maintenance of code -- and the language barrier is too high.

Your view on the current situation is pessimistic and laughable. I think you, like a lot of people, are looking at it like "well, we had a beautiful time in the Dot-Com era" but that was artificially inflated. However, if less people get into comp-sci, that means more work for me.. Hrm.. Maybe you're on to something -- time to put your plan into work:

The parent poster is right. Don't get into computer science -- it's *snicker* a "MISERABLE profession to be in".

Now I'll be rolling in the dough!

On macslash.org, there was an Ask MacSlash about iTunes somehow figuring out what songs sounded good together using some crazy sonic algorithm. The guy was asking if it was plausible that iTunes analyzed the songs in the playlist to spit out the best mix possible.

Well, there is ways of analysing the song to figure out what type of song it is -- There is actually a very intelligent professor at my local University that has developed an algorithm/program that can tell with a pretty good idea what type of song it is. (that might not be a correct link, I was poring over their website to try and find any information about the software/visiting professor and I can't say that I recall all the details exactly.. =\ ) I saw a demo of it in a class one time when he was a guest lecturer and it was pretty impressive.

Not to mention that DJ thing you can do with a phone.

Well, you can let her know that I can do it just fine. =) It takes a bit of practice, but it can be done -- and it's much easier on my eyes than convergant (cross-eyed, whatever) it's just like looking at something far away.

You might as well be asking which sexual position is best. There are so many different opposing and agreeing views you have to really decide for yourself. Honestly, a debian based system would be what I recommend, but SuSe has a nice interface and just seems really professional - except not a very friendly package manager. Fedora doesn't cut it in my estimation.

I use Xandros myself, but I don't play games much -- I don't have a good graphics card -- and the libs get old real quick -- hard to update. =\
