Amen Brother! While on the Dead bend I'd really dig seeing the concert videos/DVDs big too. Watching 50 foot tall Jerry sing Althea would be very nice.
One problem tho.....IMAX theatres don't have much aisle room for dancing, spinners, or umm...*cough*..vendors:):):)
First on a personal note I'm really pleased to hear this since I moved half a mile away from a beautiful new IMAX theatre!:)
Back to the post...I'd love to see the shots in Contact where Jody Foster is "time/space traveling" in IMAX, tho I'd be afraid of flashing back to my Deadhead days. (who am I kidding..I've never completely left)
And not to restate an obvious Slashdot reader favorite but Lord of the Rings would translate very well IMHO. The orcs would be THAT MUCH BIGGER and the battle scenes gargantuan to add to their already epic look.
Jack Valenti is already too late for not putting digital copies into our hands. My DirecTiVo takes a DirecTV digital signal and saves it to hard disk. That is the reason this particular satellite PVR doesn't have record quality adjustment (i.e.: low quality=more programs fit on PVR, high quality=less fit)
I hate to tell ya Jack but I've already got a perfect digital copy of what came down the dish and I REALLY enjoy being able to pause it indefinitely without your permission.
..Actually I heard him interviewed on NPR this morning. His whole story was that ONLY computer security professionals should engage in this type of "hacking". For everyone else no attempt should be made to reverse engineer or post exploits to the world. He did stop short of adding the popular closing "or the terrorists win" but really he was pushing M$'s security-through-obscurity line over and over again.
To his credit though, he did explain the difference between the current perception of hackers as being evil lawbreakers and the original definition of the old MIT hackers. He did broaden it just a bit by saying that old hackers were anyone who was into computers...whatever that means.
News for Nerds....ok...I can see Who fans being "Who Nerds" so to speak.
Stuff that matters....that is a gray area. I personally don't like the Who so it really doesn't matter to me in a "lost an idol fan way". It does matter to me that a human being has left this life but that happens all the time and most deaths, save sci-fi geek gods don't get posted to Slashdot.
The editors have determined it is appropriate for the Slashdot audience but is this for any reason other than Taco? Please don't misunderstand me, I am not glad that John Entwistle is dead but is there a Slashdot eulogy to Jerry Garcia? He is a "Rock Idol" of equal proportions to John Entwistle and equally dead.
My ultimate point is mourning the dead is good. Mourning the loss of "loved" celebrities is also healthy. Is Slashdot the appropriate Blog for such a post?
The April 2002 stock report press conference specifically addresses how the PS2 was bringing in "impressive" profit numbers per console.
I believe there was a company making huge profits in all the ventures it embarked in called ENRON
The bottom line here is don't believe everything a corporate giant tells you, they sometimes lie.
Also, Gord is funny but is he really evidence that Sony is making a profit. I can say I have background in such things and that the Atari 2600 will make a major comeback...it just doesn't make it true.
My 60 year old mother uses my old series 1 standalone (I upgraded and hacked my new DirecTiVo to 108 hours of record time) My mother is a very intelligent person BUT she is a technological idiot! If it has electricity running through it she has issues using it.
That being said I hooked up the TiVo for her and gave her a quick tour of what the TiVo button does, how to play recorded shows and how to add Season Passes and left her to ask questions as she ran into problems. Ya know what? She DIDN'T! All I hear now is how happy she is that she can watch her Lifetime shows, network "chick" shows, and whatever else she wants and I don't have to answer questions like "will Providence fit on this VHS tape" ever again.
God Bless TiVo!!!

Not for work at home types either so long as your employer requires you use a VPN. I support the Nortel client/switches using IPsec. You can't even get it through the satellite systems due to software compression. They are not well suited to VPN connections anyway due to the latency of getting your signal from earth to space to earth again.
The previous poster was correct. If you want to pull webpages and check email in a rural area satellite may be the way to go. Wireless providers are popping up all the time so don't count those out.
Whatever you do...DON'T do ISDN unless you are REALLY jonsing for speed faster than your 56k. It is expensive.
Sony has the bad habit of charging too much and forcing you to buy from them. In my former career I worked for a large recording studio in Chicago. The electronic techs were always baffled when they had to fix the Sony timecode DAT decks that are so essential to post-production audio (not to mention they cost out the wazoo). Anyway, our tech isolated the problem to one simple little resistor. He could send me to Radio Shack down the street and buy the resistor for $.15 but, using such "inferior" parts will void your Sony warranty. To prevent this you need to buy Sony's resistor which costs $5!!!
With that kind of markup you can buy a LOT of sashimi for Sonysan!!
Firstly, the Speedpass needs to be pretty close to the speedpass readers to get your "secret speedpass code". (within a foot or so)
Secondly, McDonalds and Walgreens don't turn their readers on until you tell them you are using Speedpass. You can't just walk past one and have it ring up someone's happy meal. (The readers are also in Mobil gas stations but are too high up on the pump to be read accidentally)
As to the stolen point kwishot makes, yes it would suck if my speedpass got stolen, but it's attached to my car keys. If it got stolen I'd notice. They'd have to take half of my keychain to get it. I agree it IS a bit less secure than a credit card but somebody could smash my car window and get my Ipass and cruise the tollway free and clear until I noticed the gaping hole in my windshield...
That's right. I've had one sitting over my computer since my father brought home a brand spanking new APPLE II right after they came out. I know dad got it from a CB radio friend who was also into computers but I don't know if it was computer related or not.
I can verify the early 80's date however.

My tongue-in-cheek 1d2,
On a related note...couldn't you CREATE false profits in AD&D? :)

FYI: Verizon and Verizon Wireless are not the same company.

They are posting as an anononymous coward!
They MUST be telling the truth!!!
It just goes to show how much stuff you can REALLY believe on the net. (present site excluded of course...*roll*)
The topic I replied to was popups.....how in the sam hill is this offtopic? :)
This will get you a nice, clean, properly layed out page of text with adverts in banners or on the side.

Ok, PSOne to avoid the flamebait label...

I am a Speedpass user in the Chicago area.
