There's code available now that does this for zipcodes. see http://www.zipmath.com/ (And using Mapquest as the black box, street addresses too.)
Tieing it into google is a nifty bit o kit tho'.
2.The lower quality recordings are available for personal copying.
I dunno bout you, but I'd be willing to be there are MILLIONS of teenie-boppers who think that freely copyable lower quality copy of BoyBandDujour is perfectly adequate and distribute it en masse.
If your goal is to have access while on the train, wouldn't it be cheaper to outfit the TRAIN with access points and have a single data connection from the train to some home base?
THAT way, if you lived near the tracks, you could just leave netstumbler on and it'd BING! every time a train passed!
What if my components are holed up in closet next to the TV? (Which they are)
How do they get the IR information into the closet?
I've got a 'smarthome' control screen that's X10 based and has an IR blaster for the closet. It's fully programmable and could probably do 90% of what this'll do, but I can't be bothered to PROGRAM it to do so.
This device claims to remove the programming acpects, but it OBVIOUSLY won't IR blast thru walls... (And NO, after spending $500 for the current setup, and $200 for this new setup, I'm not willing to loft ANOTHER $80 on an IR repeater.)
PS2 sold out, and tons of XBoxes still on the shelves. Now that's bad publicity !
Wha? Like last christmas when the Cub and the Xbox were sold out and the _Parker_ (podunk) Colorado Target had no less than _60_ PS2's lined up on the top shelf? If one little store had that many PS2s laying about, how many unpurchased PS2 are OUT THERE?

Since I've noticed I'm not the only guy with the razor and blade analogy, I thought I'd carry it further:
How many people can picture a CowBoyNeal type cursing a blue streak, with band-aids on his fingers trying to re-load a shick Slim Twin razor with a refill kit?
I wonder how much it really costs per page, adjusted for pr0n?
This is the same as: Sell the Razor at a loss, make the profit on the blades.
I don't understand why something that's okay at the $3.00 range (blades) isn't okay at the $50 range. I mean really, do you think these guys are making a profit on a $50 printer when the _packaging_ for that printer's gotta cost $12?
Buy a laser printer. The toner doesn't dry out or age. Print 99% of your slashdot articles on it. Buy a cheapie inkjet for the occasional color print you need. Not only is the laser printer faster and easier to read, You'll go 2 or 3 years before needing a new toner cart. (I've got an NEC superscript 870. Bought it in 1997. The first toner cartridge lasted four years and printed 2200 pages with one misfeed. It's on it's second toner cartridge)
Besides, by the time you need ink on your color printer, the NEW color printer will be higher quality. (or USB, or whatever)
I'm actually considering buying a dedicated photo printer as that's all I really use color for now anyway!
So we've build this elevator to space....but nobody can take a picture of it.:P
How well does it integrate with Dishnetwork?

Dishnetwork is my only source for programming, raw data format storage aside, will the tivo control and get programming information for this? Or am I better off waiting for the DishPVR701?
Thanks. I'd been holding off for just the reasons you list. The 701 had the dual record (plus watch another live channel) feature, but I was REALLY hoping for Tivo competitive software upgrades. Then again, I'm just looking for a VCRlike experience that records when I tell it to. Wife and I watch TLC/Discovery/Food/CSI/Enterprise and that's about _IT_.
DishPVR 501 is a $200 upgrade for existing dish users. While I'm holding out for the 701, An additional $100 for aproduct that works doesn't = pricey in my boat.
I say tax the people only enough to support the essential services,
And I'm saying cutting the money won't ensure that. JUST Cut the money and the GOOD parts of the government are going to suffer as much or more as the BAD parts of government.

Am I the only one that's reading this thread and thinking 'It's like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back' all over again!

Did Sony drop prices due to the Xbox rumor (which has been out for a few weeks now) or vica versa?
(Oh yeah, and let the bitching about crummy games, ugly console, and hamfisted controllers commence!)
"Digital video professionals who are thinking of using Xserve as a rackmount workstation...if you order your unit with an AGP 4X card, your Xserve will come with the card installed in an AGP riser that fits in a PCI slot."
So...does it run at PCI speeds or AGP speeds?

Any questions?
Both were technologically great devices, but the HP seemed better built (this coming from an Ipaq owner).

Extra! Extra! Linux ported to GPU!
Really, these things are getting massively more complicated than your ordinary P4 or Athlon.
And think; There's one less layer between the OS and the framebuffer!

This is precisely the crap that's gonna be worth mucho dinero in 20 years.
If you don't nip something in the bud, eventually you can't litigate against it.
If you DO nip something in the bud, well then you're evil THEN TOO! Now THERE'S some logic for ya.
I'm already a Dishnetwork guy (counting to ten to bypass the various ./ filters...)

We had surplus Wang (don't laugh) 30 mb drives at my highschool. If they were off balance, you could get them to walk when doing a disk catalog.
The cartridges were about 2' in diameter....
And then don't complain when your civil services go to hell (police response, road conditions, school quality)
Don't get me wrong, these aren't perfect now, but all reducing the money does is choke off the wrong parts of government.
