I had a laptop WAYY back in 8th Grade - My teachers thought it was odd, but I paid for it myself, and it was just incredible what I could get done - too bad there wasn't wifi back then (circa 1999)
Don't buy your kids laptops, unless their in college, and need it to even keep up in some of the classes. Let them make a decision in high school - do they REALLY NEED the new car, or do they want a new laptop in addition to the desktop a majority of them already have access to, or even own.
1. German SUV's are of the Luxo variety. Japenese are the cheap (and poorly designed) knockoffs, and you have to stoop awful low to compare korean SUV's to even the american counterparts. Ford still makes a bazillion F-150's a year - they have nailed the formula. Honda is even considering pulling out of the market ENTIRELY since the failure of it's Ridgeline.
2. Chrysler owns the Merc. Wait, other way around. Ummm... Does anyone know the REAL story? Pure Merger.
3. Maybachs and Lamborghini's trade on the name alone - the name was really the ONLY thing that pulled lambo through the 80's - the cars were terrible. And as for the recent resurgence of the Maybach name? DCB wants to compete with the Bently and Rolls crowd, disregarding all cost. It costs significantly more to manufacture a 5-2, comparatively. The margin is TERRIBLE.
We are facing an epidemic of individuals who have no idea how to communicate in channels that do not allow instant response or gratification. No where is this more apparent than in the business world.
I have had to remove IM clients from the office computers because people are using them exclusively to send info to each other, and there is no Documentation. Baddddd when you work at a Dr's Office.
I REALLY hate to see what happens when the current teens end up in the workforce. Leaving messages will be passe, If you can't get ahold of someone, it's their fault. Let's see how long that holds up with the boss man.
But I'm playing FF 4-6 and the original Chrono-Trigger on my PSP. Never had the chance to play them in the Heyday, and I cant seem to find 20 games on anything but... stupid..easilly broken... rom carts.. anymore...
The PSP is probabally gonna have a heyday of a 3rd quarter this fall. The "Hax" have only been out for 3 weeks, and already the're deep into the WiFi controls, and about to make a big step into homebrew for the Graphics chip.
The biggest problem with the PSP right now is it's suffering the same fate the DS did last christmas. Shiny new console, NO GOOD GAMES (feel the magic = NOT A GOOD GAME!) Lumines is a killer app on its own, coded arms is the best multiplayer I've had in a while, and Grand Theft Auto will sell a bunch of PSPs by itself.
Let's all sit down, play another round of Meteos/Lumines, and wait for the end of year sales to roll in. And see how many people buy (another) GBA.
PS - Stop making tiny consoles!!! The Micro looks horrid - you have to have hands like a kid to play games on it - you want to improve your Teen-mature image? Design a console that people don't Physically outgrow after 6th grade.
Another interesting idea Pratchett plays upon is that the security of the city is maintained by the delicate balance between the organized police force and the Guilds of various criminal organizations - and no one dares cross Havelock knowing full well he wields both sides of the law...
Interesting conundrum for the legal system - do you let him off easy and give him a job at a security company - or hit him hard, and ruin a promising (although mischevious) programmer?
C'mon slashdot - this is the 3rd one in a row, with little content and a lot of hype and flaming to come.
If the article had contained a SHRED of tech info, like how they hash l33tspeak, or why anyone would listen to whiny teenage messageboards, then it would be something.
As it stands, any idiot who would spend money to find out what people think through blogs is as good as broke anyway. There are too many trolls out there for this to work any better than focus groups. Next.....
One of the things I think it's important to note about Future Perfect - if you havent played at least one of the previous games in the series, I doubt youve even heard of it. The game was designed Exclusively for fans of the previous 2, with NO exceptions. There are veins of these games out there - the best example that comes to mind are the strategic real-combat sims (wargames).
There are games (thank god!) that make NO concession to the new gamer. There are complex controls by nature, no suggestion of strategy because 90% of the playerbase dosent need it, and no time spent developing the game for non gamers, because, well, quite frankly....
It would suck resources away from what the designers envisioned in the first place.
But seriously - why would ANYONE want the kinds of copyright nonsense we have over here? Talk to your senator, congressman, or the equivalent (don't know how your system works:p ) and shoot this down!
The REAL story here, not a couple of week old dupe, is that the man was found Giluty, and sentenced to Life in prison. Let's not water down something like this with an argument over "virtual" property.
This guy CLEARLY had other problems - lets not tie it into games. We get enough bad press as it is.
The biggest problem I have with enjoying a series with as much content as the FF series is the rampant fanboy-ism and doomsaying. Lets face it folk,s FFXI isn't a failure - look at the recent Vanadiel censuses. There are a whole lotta people playing that game (myself included.)
Square(and SE) have consistantly tried something new. 8 was not 7, 9 was an old school title, X was defining, and X-2 was fanservice. Beelieve it or not, I know a number of people who LOVE X-2 (and hate every other game made by SE.) It's just that the obsessive compulsive gothy types who complain about everything oin their blogs griped about it. Guess what? Those other few hundred thousand voices you don't hear? Satisfied Gamers.
Whether they like it or not, the author should get used to seing FF for a good long time. Although I really don't approve of the milking of 7, its generated a good deal of buzz. And 12 looks awesome.
Hmmm... Comparing Q3 and Halo 2... Interesting... Lets investigate further...
1. Didn't Q3 come out before there was even a freaking xbox? And who online uses anything other than a Sword, Rocket Launcher, or sniper rifle?
2. I don't really remember ANY games at the time that had official rankings..
3. (and most of all) - I never fragged an idiot yelling obscenities into a microphone. Voice chat is not revolutionary. If you wanted to taunt back then - you damn well had better have had good typing skills. Cause if not, well..
I must say - I am torn between eager anticipation, and relentless horror. Black and White looked revolutionary - it was even fun to play - for the first level....
The only reason I am even bothering to follow this one is that it's Will Wright. C'mon, anyone who can turn out good games on a track record like his deserves some anticipation.
Just don't let him know, or he'll get caught up in the hype himself (Ahem, ahem, Fable? The entire freaking lionhead team???)
Oh dear, don't start another percent completion game idea.
Bad enough when you finish and find out you were only exposed to 70% of the content you paid for. Worse even is when you go through a 2nd and 3rd time trying to take that 99.9% up to 100%
How is this news? They do preview screenings all the time.
Also, this makes real sense from a business perspective. This is an unknown property, valliantly held onto by a raving group of internet fanboys. If they did a Enterprise movie, dont you think they'd show it to some test audiences of trekkies to see if it could sell any tickets?
So don't buy an xbox. I dont own a mac, don't plan to in the near future, and suffer a gimped version of Photoshop and no Logic because of it. Stop crying, and get over the fact that M$ saved a game from oblivion and obscurity on a platform the vast majority of game dev's ignore.
You really think there would be a Halo 2, let alone a World Wide Tourney, if it had come out as a mac exclusive?
I own both Elixer games mentioned. I was PSYCHED for republic. I got it, put it on the laptop, and played for like 2 days straight. I actually restarted after I figured out the system. There was only one problem:
It sucked. It was boring, monotonus, and after the 2nd level, not at all entertaining. It felt like work. Strike that. It was harder than work, with less reward.
I didn't even realive the same studio had made E.G. until this article. And yet as I look back, I can see alot of similarities between the games. Too much information, a Not-At-All intuitive interface, and a lackluster AI in games where the interface is something you spend 95% of your time in and the AI basically has to play the game for you.
Elixer failed not because they had publisher problems, or because they had a canceled game. They failed because they were a large group of creative, intelligent people with practically no outside testing. They internalized everything, thought their ideas were good, and sent them out. No one to say "This is too hard" or "this is too slow". I think I'd rather the company dissolve and the talent migrate to other studios than they release another game I get excited about, only to see the execution fail.
I don't think so. If Nintendo REALLY thinks M$ will not only revise their design, development, production, and Release schedule so they can include Smell-o-Vision, they have been eating their own magic mushrooms for too long. The PS3 will dominate with good titles, good tech, and a wave of "must-have it" word of mouth. MS will sell on huge advertising budgets and no-compromise graphics.
Really, what is there left to copy? MS is more than likely (according to the GDC) tied into development contracts, and a change at this point would ruin their hoped-for Q4 pre-christmas ship date.
Although - If they are doing this to maintain the integrity of the film, so as to not remove any of those scenes - more power to them.
Don't buy your kids laptops, unless their in college, and need it to even keep up in some of the classes. Let them make a decision in high school - do they REALLY NEED the new car, or do they want a new laptop in addition to the desktop a majority of them already have access to, or even own.

Otherwise, an apt comparison.

decisions... decisions...
Wait... I've heard that one before.. where was it....
OH YEAH, ON /, a few weeks ago. About the same story.
DUPE!
At what point is an artcle restating a previous article's content not a dupe? How far must it be removed to still be considered news?

FFX2 anyone???

Mod's UP anyways +1
