A local compu-retailer, MicroCenter, was one of the worst around here for bugging people for every last shred of information; it probably peaked around 10 years ago when I picked up some programming mag in their book section, got out my cash at the register, and the guy asked me the twenty questions.
I said, "Why?"
He said, "for uh, returns."
I said, "OK, so if the magazine BREAKS, you can verify that I own it by my name, address and phone number. Great." Flopped the mag on the counter and left.
I hear they don't do that anymore, but it doesn't much matter to me... I took my business elsewhere.
The U.S. mint, like many other mints from larger countries, issue coinage that is not strictly for circulation (commemoratives, bullion coins, etc) and profit is generated from those sales.
And they probably heard that goatse.cx was taken.
At work, we've decided that, since finding out one of our HP tech reps BS'ed us about a particular system feature, the marketing term "Adaptive Enterprise" translates to "we'll tell you what we want to, depending on your budget, our backlog, and Carly's latest memo".
Nahh, in our case my dad was too cheap to buy the Pioneer ones. We never thought it was better.
Shame, too... I have a bunch of those disks (Blade Runner with the original narration, and other curiosities). The real problem is directors who won't leave their own stuff alone.

I have the original SW/ANH on an old, crappy format of video disk (the RCA capacitance disks); bought back then because they were cheaper. Almost tempted to fire up the player and see what the differences are. They wouldn't be worth putting on DVD, that's for damn sure.

Oh cool! And I hear that the Ewoks now sport 3" fangs and have replaced the Ewok victory dance with gangsta rap.
... will Google have tie-ins to my IM client (for inbox notifications) and a homepage where I can combine my mail with my stock quotes and all the other stuff I currently do on Yahoo?
*Captain* Triumph, maybe? That would be choice... but only if they reprise the Comedy Central episode of TV Funhouse where they suck Xmas spirit out of the guy's spine.
Farm out the franchise to the guy on SNL (Robert Smigel?) who does their animated shorts... why? Why not?
Ya know what ST always lacked? Those trite cross-series cameos that sitcoms would do... like maybe get Mimi from Drew Carey on as a token space alien, or... or... well, no. ST is too stick-a-fork-in-it-done, even for that.
Mixed results here... of 3 invites I sent to Hotmail users last week, 1 got through and 2 didn't. Of course the one that got through accepted...
I am a Yahoo mail user and am annoyed that mail from some of my friends goes to the bulk folder automatically... not invites, but generic email. Maybe Gmail will do better with respect to this... are you getting all this feedback, Google employees?;)
They didn't announce it ahead of time, as far as I know... like you, my old one had 6 MB of space, my new one had 4. Upgrade happened to the new account this AM at, oh, 8-ish Eastern US time.
Funny thing is, I just scored my gmail accounts and was looking forward to using it more than Yahoo. Question remains... who has the better uptime, usability and spam blocking? Time will tell.
A second-cousin of bloat is overconsolidation... putting too many dissimilar software systems on one piece/set of hardware because it "saves money". Change control events for such hosts are akin to a company meeting, with everyone only focusing on the software they own. And who's in the middle, to make sure it all stays working? The sysadmin.
Yes, that's what I was thinking... is the stated range a sign of deflation, or did they just ask the wrong people? I'm an experienced Unix admin; my pay is well above that range and has been for the last 5 years.
In some cases, they'll have to, unless they want to spring for a $10000+ digital back for their 'Blad. Last year, I was in several weddings (and attended a few others); as always I chatted up the photogs there. Every one of them had medium-format film gear, and every one of them said they'd be getting digital equipment soon.
After testing the D70 at a local shop, I'd say that the new lenses are worth buying along with the camera. YMMV.
Back in the days when my work location ran programs on a Unix mini and green-screen dumb terminals on the desktop, one of the secretaries called our word-processing support lady and asked her why she couldn't get Windows Solitaire to run on her terminal.
Wish I could remember the snappy answer given to that one...

... well, maybe. Depends on how much dust it tosses up. Seem to remember that Pinatubo affected the sunset when it blew in the early 90's.
Deep Blue? hah, wait till they see... "Deep Bluff"

Trading Outer Spaces - when the decorators try to spruce up the Death Star with a little color and a few throw pillows, hilarity ensues!
Survivor: Tatooine - where being voted off the planet is more of a prize than anything else.
Monster Speeder Garage - if two engines are good, 8 must be awesome.
and so on...
... pork whiskers! Eventually the hardware will fritz out due to the accumulated pork whiskers and you'll have to replace it anyway. Problem solved.
It's no style job... they were just too poor to afford color back then.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.
And IT is weird, non-natural stuff that nobody else wants to deal with on a full-time basis.

Don't have a gmail account yet? You could just ask for one: Gmailswap.com.

Quite true.... but then have you seen many ARC files lately? ZIP is still alive and kicking.
