I know that long before 1998 tour guides at Chitzen Itza would clap their hands in front of El Castillo and point out how the echo sounded like an eagle. They also would mention that the effect was intentional. I can't really believe that someone would pass this off as a new discovery. My guess is the article got it wrong and the researchers are presenting an analysis of the effect and some new evidence.

The street lamp failed with a bright flash, sparks, and smoke. Happens all the time. The indirect light is mostly uniform except where the street lamp pole is shadowing the flash. Hence a streak. Happens all the time at sunsets if you look carefully.

The biggest problem I see is that %80 percent or more of the money will go to pay Career CYA type desk jockeys, NASA camp followers, and other parasites that have infested the space program since the end of the Apollo landings. There really needs to be a major house cleaning at NASA and the major NASA contractors before any money can be wisely spent. The recently mentioned NASA X prize would be a good start but the the parasites' paid representitives in Congress are probably going to nix that.

When are people going to realize that the extending copyrights, enhancing patent coverage, or any other games being played by IP monopolists are done at the direct cost of reducing the rights of individual people. That's right, it means taking something that you had as a right and giving it to a corporation. At one time this was justified by the belief that it would provide incentive to create new products and services. As we are seeing more and more, the effect now is to stifle innovation and keep it under control of large corporations so that they may maintain ecomonic power.

If a lawyer type can come up with a good way to apply the DMCA to the breakin attempts, then we can use an automated script to issue a DMCA letter to the offenders ISP. If I understand the DMCA correctly, the ISP has to take some action regarding the DMCA violation. The end result would be that the DMCA letters from the nasty 4 letter (MPAA, RIAA) scumbags would be buried in the noise. In effect a DoS of the DMCA.
