I've been through a Bachelor's and Master's degree so far... and absolutely, the WiFi issue is a big one. I'm sitting next to students who barely pass... and it's no wonder, because all they do is play games, read comics, and surf the net. I tempted myself with this also, but I found I couldn't concentrate with my mini-laptop, so I stopped bringing it. They need to be limited somehow.
I recently walked into a small development team for a bank, and have since been basically promoted to team lead... in charge of all coding. We do some of the following...
All SQL is placed in stored procs
All stored procs include Comments about where it's "Called From"
All web pages include comments about which stored procs, session vars, html params, etc. are used on that page
Longer the variable name, and more descriptive, the better... short variable names & abbreviations suck
Use and abuse the.NET #region tags, cause they make your code much more readable
That an interesting article... and I totally believe it... but it's kinda ironic since my department at the bank I work at just did a survey type thing on each employee and one thing they mentioned about me (C# developer) was that I dressed more formal than everybody else... and all I wear is khakis and a dress shirt!
This will make Programmers just like doctors... and look at the state Doctors are in right now. They're afraid to operate because of malpractice lawsuits. Programmers are going to be afraid to program because of malcoding lawsuits!
Couldn't this technology then be used on Motherboard batteries? Then we'd never have to worry about the system clock getting reset because the motherboard battery died!
I develop corporate websites, and the company I work for is too cheap to supply a decent image program (such as Photoshop), so I use Gimp for Windows... and I love it! Looking forward to the new version, give me more!
I have a photo printer, but I also live less than 1 mile from Walgreens. I get my pics developed at Walgreens 99% of the time for one reason... the price. But typically, I had to go to walgreens twice... once to submit the pictures, and then once to pick them up an hour later. Nowadays, though, I love the love the concept of submiting my pictures online, then going to the store to pick them up... saves a trip!
What I don't understand is... it's currently illegal to make these "backup" copies, so why do people still continue to do it and just whine about it? Why don't they instead get out of their office chairs, make some phone calls to their congressman, talk to friends & neighbors, and go out and vote or whatever else they need to do. Then after they've gotten the law changed, go out and make as many backup copies as you need! That's how our government should work.
I think it's ok for MS to bundle the anti-virus and spyware software into their OS. You can never have too much security now-adays on an MS product, can you? I would still purchase Norton, Symantec, and other tools to run on top of this, because I wouldn't trust that an MS product could protect against itself, let alone the entire OS. Symantec needs to stop griping.
I spent 3.5 years in undergrad programming C/C++/Java in Linux. I spent 1.5 years in grad programming C/C++/Java/JSP and who knows what else, all in Linux.I returned home from school and got my first job doing.NET developer's work at a large bank. I've been working here less than a year, but I haven't had the time, or the desire to work with Linux since being here.
My 2 laptops & desktop have been converted over to Windows 2000 Pro, cause all I want to do when I get home is play video games, not work with Linux anymore. I program 8-9 hours a day with.NET, C#, and SQL Server, and I have just lost the desire to work with my linux boxes. I have stopped going to my local linux users group.
My long-term goal is to go back to grad school and get my PHD so I can be a college professor, and then I still have every desire to go back to the world of Linux... but until then, I'm more than likely just another.NET developer stuck in the world of Microsoft.
And I have a patent for Windows Viruses ... so ya 'all better stop writing them or I'll sue your @ss.
Is AT&T Serious?
I guess I'll just stick to Worms then!
Always have and always will buy AMD!

Sad story ... read only if you're bored ...

Is it raining by you?
Way to go! Whose idea was it to post this article anyway? Now the labtop I was going to bid on has like 100 bids...
experienced users should definetly go with debian

about as good a chance as
you'd have of surfing a pron

this sucks... ...
i posted the same comment
earlier i might add, and i got
negative points!
i'm destined for failure
Microsoft is conducting a survey.
Would you like to participate?
No
or you can just stick in your
debian/redhat/slackware cd's
install a new OS, and stop worrying
kung fu guru?
cool...thanks
Maybe I'm just too much of a noob,
but what else is there besides XFree86?
Is there anything with a legit chance to
take over?
Or are we destined to code something new?
thanks
isn't this a good thing?
if we want to bring linux to the masses
we need an easy installation process
and anaconda is light years friendlier
than the typical debian install
it's the true office suite
