Frankly, I'm confounded by the list. When I first saw this post, I thought "Plan 9" is free on archive.org and one of the most memorable (for better or worse;) alien movies... it SHOULD be on there! Then I actually started thinking and decided that one of the "Alien[s]" movies should be on it and one of the Star Wars movies. Then I R'd TFA and saw that some of them had been chosen. I was confounded when I saw that "Contact" and "2001" weren't (at least) #2 and #3. I didn't even think about them. "2001" is a classic. "Contact" was probably the best movie that explored faith ever.
But I'm surprised that "teen" flicks like "Armageddon" and the like weren't on there. But I guess that is an issue of what does "best" mean: an extremely popular film or a very good film.
What about "Rocky Horror"? Sure it took place on Earth, but there were aliens in it...
I'm on iChat and I haven't gotten them (yet?). I think iChat uses Oscar (or whatever they are calling it now) instead of TOC (or whatever they are calling it now). So, that rules out that so far.
I wanted to read it (something about some certain number and death that I know nothing about), but apparently the copy I ended up with when I re-read it was an older one. Sounds bad:\. It is better when it flows well. I'll try to pick it up one day.
I just mean in the "suspension of disbelief" kinda way. In the first book, we discover that physics of Mid-World is the same as our universe. We discover that magic exists in Mid-world. We discover that there are doors between universes when we meet Jake. We discover that there are mutants (which explains other bizarre animals in later books). We know time doesn't quite make sense any more. We learn alot.
I can't think of any concrete examples at this time (it's been over a year since I re-read from the beginning -- and almost 10 years since I read Gunslinger -- and almost 6 months since I finished the last book), but I know I had some "WTF" moments where it seemed like things were just made up on-the-fly (and I don't think S.K. would disagree, since he claims to write books as-they-come, not with a pre-planned plot).
I'm not arguing about it's ability to exist in that universe, just that it's nice if it's introduced from the get go instead of 1/2 way through the story. But seeing that the story was written over decades, unplanned, I can't expect anything more.
Don't get me wrong. It's my favorite series of books (and as a whole, my favorite story), beating out The Vampire Chronicles by a good margin.
I loved the series. My only gripe was King slowly added more "stuff" to the universe that wasn't there in the first one (where the universe was introduced). So, it'll be nice to get the back story and more information on stuff that "appeared" 1/2 through the series. I guess I'll have to shell out the cash for this one.
What the hell are you talking about? 10% of myspace's functionality is down at all times due to Tom's apparent love of testing his (or whoever the developers are now) newest script on the live server instead of a development server.
I'm not emo or anything (all my friend's use myspace, I swear that's why I joined). But I did send 4 messages to the same person today (at least 1 minute apart) and ended up at a page that said "test"... just the word "test"... no back ground or navigation... just the word "text." None of the messages ever made it to the person. That's worse than Microsoft.
Myspace is a farce. I wish I had the time to write my own social networking website that is better than myspace and squash it! (Orkut sucks, too. I'm already a member.)
I've been waiting a LONG time for this. I want to download some songs from some Oz artists (that I can currently only buy from overseas online) but not all of them are available in the iTunes US and I can't buy them from iTunes Australia. Acts in and around Oz like Little Birdy, Youth Group, Scribe, Clare Bowditch, Eskimo Joe, Gyroscope, Grinspoon, and more aren't available to the US yet. Granted, I think they may still be adding songs, which means they probably just haven't added them to the US store. But I wish they'd upload the damn things before they tell us about them...
Does that mean is STARTS Friday the 26th and most of the stream time would actually happen really early on Saturday the 27th? In other words, can I get off work at 5:00 PM on Friday, come home and get sloshed, then watch cartoons from 11 PM until I pass out (instead of coding)?
Just wanted to make sure I'm reading TFA correctly, as I've already fulfilled up to the "get sloshed" part of my Friday night plan and I don't know what to put into iCal, as I am going to forget this news in *whispers* seven days */whispers*.
Why couldn't they have posted this the day before?
>> the presidential term is so brief that not many things can be effectively accomplished in the short term to garner or relinquish support.
Let's hope so. If our government gets any more conservative, we might give radical Islamics a run for their money.
Any time a post has "Plenty of Pictures," it's usually bound to get slashdotted. This is probably because when readers see the words "Plenty of Pictures," they think, "Hey, even if I don't RTFA, I can STFP and infer what TFA is about."
It's the same in the States, just no one cares to follow it (esp. people driving too slowly). It's easy to justify if you think you are going fast enough for everyone else. Of course you have to be pretty self-righteous to think that, but it is the Americans* I'm talking about.
* I'm American, so this is insight, not flame. Thnx.
Even if every state takes on this method, H&R/etc. will still be around. The online federal tax forms, at least as far as I can tell, are very limited. Nothing beats a tax guy who knows where the cuts are and can take full advantage of the current tax law. Further, the new CA thing is supposedly for "simple" tax forms. Advanced people still need help (and probably in-house help, as opposed to online help).

Maybe they are really available but are difficult to see?
:\
Sounds like the SCO vs IBM case to me...

The fact that the developers are emo teens does NOT constitute research! ;)
This was already posted in the comments of the "Video iPod Coming Soon" post the other day.
If you go to http://www.apple.com/foo/ it doesn't do that...
Your real name must be Freddy Krueger. I just tried my fingernail on my 2nd or 3rd gen regular iPod and my iPod Nano. They both survived.

Looks like they weren't ready. Any of the lucky few want to make a bittorrent?
We need support for input type="file"...

1. Feed patient barbituates
2. Freeze them
3. Perform surgery
4. Close everything up
5. Thaw
6. ???
7. Profit!
In Soviet Russia, barbituates are loaded up with you.
Ok. I'm done.
Everything and their mom is going "social" these days. Doesn't anyone just want to be left alone any more?

Not for hypoglycemics...
I think The The might have something to say about it.
