One person whining about "Godwin's law" is bad enough, but here we have TWO ACs who don't know what they are talking about. It seems that they think Godwin's law means that mentioning nazis means losing the discussion. This is wrong, for at least two reasons:
Godwin's Law of Nazi Analogies was: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one." Nothing about losing the discussions or that the discussion has to end when Nazis or Hitler are mentioned.
Excuse me, but why are you pasting your web site address outside your sig? Isn't it a bit ironic that you are against spam, yet you advertise your own site, which happens to be completely irrelevant?
I've asked you about this before, but got no answer.
I'd say that you are wrong there. On my system, Opera uses far less memory than Firebird. And when you start installing FB extensions, the difference is even greater.
Also, Opera has to fit on memory limited devices such as smartphones. I'd like to see you embed Gecko on such a device and get the same speed. Opera already exists on a number of mobile devices. That alone proves that your claim about being memory heavy is false.
If this is such a great parody and they are not making money by ripping off Google and fooling people, then why do they need to hide the owner of the domain behind a proxy?
Thanks for all the kudos... Booble IS a parody, and therefore is protected by the first amendment. And, yes, it makes money. That's part of the joke. We have lawyers, too.
The site IS slow and has been since making the papers around the world. People LOVE this idea. We've been slammed with more traffic than we ever imagined was possible and working around the clock to get our service to where it should be.
So... please do visit us again in the next few days while we get our proverbial act together. Click webmasters on the home page. We'll list any sites with affiliate programs; if you don't have an affiliate program, we'll list you for a link back. Or you can just email me at webmaster@booble.com
PS Domains by proxy is offered to those using Godaddy domain registration services. Very low cost. Very nice way of keeping your business private. Don't know where else you can sign up for their services, which so far have been very useful.
Notice how this guy sounds exactly like a regular adult webmaster, trying anything to squeeze money out of "virgin surfers", as they are referred to in that thread?
If it's just a parody, why is making money part of the joke? Why the lawyers? Why use something resembling Google's public image to make money from affiliate programs? Why use a domain by proxy service?
This whole things stinks of adult webmaster trying to make more money. These are the same people who spam you and assault MSIE users with popups and other crap. This is not a parody. It is a massicve publicity move to get hits on the site, to make money from it, and then get the fuck out, as someone in the above thread says.
"This 'feature' isn't going to go away because the NYT has mentioned it. The problem comes from clueless people, who will still be clueless now!"
The problem isn't that there will be fewer people misspelling words. The problem is that there will be more people looking for misspellings, so it will be harder to find those nice bargains.
What does this say, other than that Jon thinks that FreeBSD is better than Linux, or that Linux is not the best solution to everything - that all OSes have their weaknesses?
He was a kid! They tend to exaggerate you know.
I saw no hard evidence, just a few vague quotes, claims and speculation.
"It installs spyware that monitors keyboard activity. If you type an email address on a PC that has Kazaa, that address will be spammed into oblivion."
Kazaa monitors your keybord activity? Do you have anything to back up that claim?
While it is widely known that Kazaa is spyware, I find your claim to be bit "out there". So do you have any evidence?
"In movies, one of the goals is to have a suspension of disbelief and, to achieve that, scenes should be reasonably believable."
And guess what, just about everyone else will watch the movies and see the cool moves in the light saber fights and bingo, instant suspension of disbelief. Just because you are anal about something, maybe because you know how "real" sword fights work, doesn't mean that everyone else can't enjoy it.
I know how you feel, though, because I hate it when they start bringing computers doing bleep-da-beep sounds and "cool" stuff in movies. It's so... lame and completely unrealistic.
Maybe you are a swordsman and are as anal about swordfighting in movies as I am about computers in mainstream media. That doesn't mean that all the other dumbasses can't have some suspension of disbelief, if just for a moment.
Opera's Google "Rads" are static text banners served by Google. No blinking, no animation, no nothing. In Opera 7.50, the ad banner is even smaller. Blinky banners indeed... It's OK to be a Firebird fan, but there's no reason to spread FUD.
"DirectConnect rocks. The more you share, the more you get! But then, its primary function appears to be software piracy. If it is actually used for more legitimate things, I'd like to hear what they are."
As if DC is more used for "software piracy" than any other P2P network... DC can be used for the exact same legitimate things as all other ways to transfer files. And like all other ways to transfer files, it can be used for illegal activities as well.
Nintendo's hardware is not thought up by the CEO, but by their research labs. The CEO might give a "go" or a "no", but he isn't the one making these designs in the first place.
Also, I highly doubt that Nintendo actually fears the PSP. Just like the PS2 has a huge library of games and backwards compatibility in the home market, Nintendo has the same kind of position in the portable market. It will be equally difficult for others to make a huge impact in those markets. Nintendo, with their experience, might be able to dethrone the PSNextGen, but Sony won't be able to topple Nintendo's lead in the handheld market just like that.
Hey GaimeGuy, stop posting on Slashdot and do somehing PRODUCTIVE and BENEFICIAL to society. Why not do something that PEOPLE MAY ACTUALLY GIVE A DARN ABOUT?! There's no reason for you to post on Slashdot.
It's sad, really. Think of all that's been wasted in posting your comments to Slashdot.
Hmm...
On second thought... Keep posting, I think that's about the most productive and beneficial to society you can do anyway:)
Everyone, be warned that Google Watch was started after Daniel Brandt (Everyman on Slashdot) felt that his obscure little site which mentioned Donald Rumsfeld on one page wasn't ranked highly enough, and that his page should have come before the official Rumsfeld bio at DefenseLink, as well as other more important and informative sites.
The leftist Brandt was so angry that he started his site, Google Watch, on which he writes several direct lies and misleading statements about Google. It is his personal vendetta against Google because Google actually works and gives his obscure page a low rank.
Usenet was better under DejaNews? That's not what I remember. It has never been easier or more convenient to search newsgroups than with Google Groups.
If you know that you are going to snap anyway, why not just whip out the gun right now and go over to them? Try to get as many of them as possible before you go down. If you are arrested, people will probably gladly pay your legal bills. If you are shot by the cops, you'll be a martyr.
You can't lose! The voices in your head command you... KILL-KILL-KILL...
Well gee, what could it be... Perhaps they actually choose what is posted on the site and therefore do the job of an editor? Do you think the editor in a newspaper writes everything himself?

No it isn't. It has no human caracteristics what so ever. It's got more in common with any random cell in your body than with a real human. This is objectively speaking, without mixing in religion.
"Abortion opponents don't want any of them to be legal and abortion proponents want all of them to be legal."
Such extremists are usually blinded by ignorance.
"As long as abortion is legal, yes the decision is the woman's, but I think that her partner should be notified. Even though I couldn't stop her from doing it if she wanted to, my girlfriend would never see me again if she aborted my child."
Since the birth of a child has far more wide-reaching consequences than removing it, the father should be heard if he wants an abortion, but he should not be able to force the woman to keep it.
Oh give me a break! That is not a vulnerability in the e-mail client at all! If the user actually has to execute the attachment manually, then the e-mail client is not vulnerable.
I don't want my e-mail to cripple my use of it by blocking certain attachments, but on the other hand I don't want it to run executable attachments automatically either.
What you are talking about us not vulnerabilities in the software, but stupid people who open random attachments from complete strangers. Spocial engineering, perhaps, but not exploiting a security hole. Not a security vulnerability in most e-mail clients.
Try to get your facts straight before you attempt to re-define well known terms.
It doesn't matter if the virus spreads by social engineering - the software is not vulnerable. If you pick up a floppy disk on the street, put it in your PC and run a program on it which happens to contain a virus, that doesn't mean that it's a security vulnerability in the floppy!

There's a thread about this in a webmaster forum frequented by adult webmasters, where someone who seems to represent Booble writes:
