  1. So many handheld from same company on Nintendo DS to Feature Wireless Connectivity? · · Score: 3, Interesting

Is it me or is nintendo seriously lacking competition in the handheld arena... to the point where they now release a new system just to fight among themselves. As if regular gameboy, gameboy color, gameboy advance isn't enough.

Don't worry Sony will come by and clean up this mess.

  2. This is crazy on SCO Says They'll Sue A Linux User Tomorrow · · Score: 1

It's like arresting a scientist studying cocaine in the lab.

Damn, don't blame the users cause #include is found everywhere.

  3. Stats might be wrong on UUNet Is The Number 1 Spam Host · · Score: -1, Offtopic

  4. Thank god I have a PS2 on Rockstar Announces GTA San Andreas · · Score: 1

My PS2 is by far one of the best investment ever.

There is already a great lineup this year with FF online, smackdown hctp, virtual fighter evo.

I don't know how to squeeze in any more hours when gran turismo 2004 and this new GTA comes out.

  5. Too many distributions on Gentoo Linux 2004.0 Released · · Score: -1, Offtopic

Ok there are too many distributions out there. All linux folks should unite to create a united linux.

Oh wait SCO already ruined that one.

  6. Re:Funny Suprnova just put a bunch these up on Metroid II, Prime Get New Speed Run Records · · Score: 1

Is there any other ways to download this besides from bit tolerant? It'd be great to download these straight as an avi.

  7. RPGs can take no skill on On Reaction-Based Massively Multiplayer Gaming · · Score: 3, Interesting

It's a fact that RPG is solely based on leveling up and slapping on the right equipment on your characters. You don't need fast reflex or quick hand-eye coordination. All you need is patience and be motivated to keep playing.

I know I'll get modded down big time for this... but the only major reason why RPG is still an existing genre is because they are the only genre that can guarantee 80+hrs of original gameplay.

I have a number of relatives and friends that can play RPGs all day long. None of them can handle a fps for example, they simply get destroyed. Vice versa I have never seen anyone who mastered a fps... and can't handle an RPG. I don't call it a coincidence.

  8. Spare parts? on Roomba + Tablet PC = ? · · Score: 1

Ok, as soon as you mentioned tablet PC, that pretty much sums up spare parts.

What's the cheapest tPC nowadays... $2000? Maybe $1999 after discount.

  9. Service Pack on Microsoft Code in Every HD-DVD Player · · Score: 1

So when's the HD-DVD service pack coming out?

I should expect firmware XP or some fancy name to go with it right?

  10. Too many lawyers on Amazon Sued for Patent Infringement · · Score: 3, Funny

Is it me or is the demand for lawyer increasing forever. Everyone sues every company, and vice versa.

At this rate, some day someone will make up some legit reason to sue the entire Internet altogether.

  11. Reverse Engineering on iPod Mini Autopsy · · Score: 1

I am sure it's just not possible to look at circuits and parts via a couple pictures and get enough info out of it to reverse engineer an iPod.

If someone can build a real cheap alternative it can send the overpriced $300 iPod to its doom.

  12. I'll be an A+ student on Gaming Academia Gets More Mainstream Press · · Score: 1

Video games for academics... that sounds too good to be true.

If it's hardcore programming it should be categorized with computer science. If it's everything else not code related, it should fit into this new curriculum.

  13. Hope Nintendo Monopoly dies on Sony Delays PSP To 2005 · · Score: 2, Insightful

I cannot wait until Nintendo get some real competition. Gameboy has had too long a monopoly on the handheld gaming industry.

It took them god knows how many years before they released the GB advanced. With a push from Sony PSP, consumers can leapfrog straight to PS1 quality games and force Nintendo to be the "low end" of the market.

  14. Alot of collectibles on Last Great Internet Bubble Auction · · Score: 1

I know this sounds crazy but years from now things from the Internet Boom Era will be serious collectibles.

Machines from the industrial revolution eras are now priceless. So keep some of these pentiums and .com registration paperwork for your grand kids etc etc.

  15. Depends on the crowd on Copyrights, Videogames, and LAN Parties? · · Score: 2

We use to have console parties in college dorms. As long as 100% of the audience were local students, no one cares.

It's when we turn the parties into a public display with an open invitation to anyone that it might become a legal matter. But still... there were no real paperwork needed. Just make sure all games were legit, non-copies etc etc.

  16. All windows are the same on MS May Be Forced To Sell Stripped-Down OS In EU · · Score: 4, Interesting

M$ can strip this out, that out and have a million different versions.

But in the end windows 2000 + XP nowadays really only differ by a few registry keys. Some programs can do the magic for you. Cough.... NTswitcher.... Cough.

  17. EA is too powerful on Electronic Arts Shuts Down Origin Systems? · · Score: 3, Interesting

1.) There was a study done. Literally on a ratio of like 3 to 1. For every 3 titles that come out EA needs to buy or sell one small company. EA buys away its competition.

2.) It markets the hell out of everything. NBA live for example has out sell Sega ESPN basketball every year. Soon competition from Sega might disappear and voila less competition again. They can keep the baskeball standard low for 5 years while they tweak their engine. Not good for consumer

3.) EA is losing quality yearly like M$ especially on the PC product line.

  18. Teller versus ATM on Visual Autopsy Of An ATM Card Skimmer · · Score: 1

You can always play it safe and wait in long lines at the Teller instead of using ATMs.

Though nowadays they got insane fees for using Tellers anyways.

Basically all banks want easy input and difficult output.

  19. I am against demos on Should Games Be Delayed To Release Playable Demos? · · Score: 3, Interesting

I am one of the few people that are actually against demos for 60% of the games.

The idea for demo is good if the game requires serious hardware testing. Problem being, most people try the demo with failed hardware and don't know how to provide proper feedback to the copmanies. Forums and messageboards aren't exactly the most organized method of feedback.

Most games that have only a couple levels shouldn't even give demos. If you game has 8 levels, you just gave away 1/8th of the product for free.

  20. Comparing the software on Subversion 1.0 Released · · Score: 1, Redundant

Does anyone have a good website to compare subversion, cvs, perforce, clearcase and other software of this type?

  21. Crime Drop on Chicago Police Force Wins CIO Magazine Award · · Score: 2, Funny

Ok if the crime rate has dropped for Chicago, I am not so sure the database was the reason for it.

It's great achievement yes. But to say Joe Smoe didn't commit a crime because he feared a 200GB oracle db, that's just silly.

  22. Funcoland / Gamestop on Stores Neglecting Old Videogame Packaging? · · Score: 2, Insightful

If someone told Funcoland which is now Gamestop they could sell Zelda for 20x the value with a mint box, they still wouldn't do it.

These stores pay rent per square feet. There aren't enough people paying collector's price to cover the rent loses. I don't think even in 10-20 years.

  23. Virus Conspiracy on Virus Writers - The Enemy Within · · Score: 3, Interesting

If you think teenage punks are the ones writing all the virus you're in for a surprise.

Someone needs to do some serious research and see how many came out of Norton Lab.

It's easy to blame some kid playing a guitar in his bedroom. It's another thing to hire a lawyer and blame virus scan companies.

  24. Office XP flaw on Google to Launch Free Mail Service? · · Score: 1, Insightful

I don't know how many people check their M$ hotmail account and other web accounts using Office XP Outlook.

I got a feeling M$ will purposely create some Office XP bug to make googlemail incompatible with Outlook. This is the typical M$ strategy up against any competition.

  25. Space Technology on Debugging The Spirit Rover · · Score: 5, Insightful

That's the thing that amaze me. Any technology having to do with space seem that much more advanced.

Here on earth we can't even build cars that require no maintainance and last more than 10 years.
