The book relies to much on deprecated approaches for dynamic webpages: they heavily propagate Perl and PHP.
But decent professional development needs integration into n-tier business applications which must be done with
an object orientated programming language
supporting webservices or at least Corba and DCOM
with aviable RAD tools enabled for the Rational, Waterfall or Xtreme Programming development process.
This reduces the choice to Java, Ruby and.NET, but.NET drops dead due to Apache being un.net.
Honestly, I think that such books should burned in public to give other authors a decent warning.
They are the source to unprofessional web portals, downtimes and Javascript terror rubbish we see these days on the net. Either do it right or don't do it. Sometimes I think there should be regulations for web application development like we have these days for plane or rocket design.

Instead of dominating other distributions they should focus on something useful like dominating the desktop. And it would help if the Debian project drops their snotty attitude versus KDE.

People like Ritchie and Kernigan and Wall are to blame the introduction of gibberish programming languages. These fucked entire generations of programmer. Before C and Perl people had to learn Cobol, Lisp and Fortran and produced stable, working stuff. No Beagle 2 not calling back from Mars.

But when you get the "negative" side effects you always start to whine and scream around, e.g. when a German company buys a second rate car maker or some IT jobs are outsourced to India.
But, sorry, this is basically imperialistic egoism. People in other countries have - believe or not - the right to be happy and succesful, too. Especially if they are more competitive and innovative. You cannot always suck all reasources and revenues out of third world countries. Especially if these countries cease to be 3rd world countries and become first world countries.
It is indeed not required that Gunjaraa the Indian with eight kids and 2 wives has to be jobless and live in a slum just that you can afford you second hummer.
