Amazon's delivery performance has degraded so greatly in the last year or two that I thought they were already doing something like this. I've been a big shopper with them since they began, and I have seen their delivery performance going into the sewer for quite some time. As their delivery performance suffered, my purchases from them have dropped-off to almost nothing. Whatever possessed them to think that a punishment would improve their sales is beyond my imaginiation. BN

Just when you thought Congress was totally useless, they go and do something right. It was always wrong for the small repair shops to be excluded from being able to repair newer cars, but we citizens were also being excluded from being able to repair our own cars. It surprises me that Congress has the cojones to do this, but I do applaud the action.

By excluding the small repair shops, the auto manufacturers are preventing customers from getting the best repair deals. By exluding US from reading our own engine error codes, we can't easily perform many basic auto maintenance tasks.

Bravo to whomever decided to step out-of-character in our Congress.

We are talking about databases. A database is a collection of (hopefully) facts. Take your example of a sports almanac. If somebody else collected the scores for the same time period, their database would violate your copyright, even though they did the same work. So, we are indeed talking about OWNING THE FACTS.

The next question comes about when we consider a person who collects the same scores, but for a longer period of time. Would the fact that your copyright covers a subset of his database still put him in violation of your copyright?

This is bad legislation. Common sense should send it into the dumper. The lack of common sense in Congress is what has me concerned.
