Amen, borther. I've been saying this ever since my first hands-on with Win2k. It's a stable OS, the drivers just blow goats 90% of the time (more than that for USB and system-level devices).
Microsoft's search engine for MSDN is completely broken... I have to use google to search MS's own site... this is complete bullshit. MS just doesn't know how to impliment searching properly.
All the price comparison aside, I still have one thing I wish Apple would change about the current Powermac lineup: LARGER CASES! Sure, they open nice, but once you put a couple of drives into it, it's full. End of story. I have two optical drives in mine, and that's all it can take. Sure, I might be able to put one or two more hard drives in, but compared to all but the cheapest PC cases I've bought over the years, they're not very spacious at all.
People always defend Apple's high price point by saying that they're worth the extra money... and they are. But I do miss being able to cram more new toys into my computer.
I want a bigger case when I buy my next mac. You listening, Steve?
You can install OS 9/X directly onto an iPod and boot up any mac that has FireWire with it. Very handy for full system backups and disk fixing.
You don't install onto the iPod's buffer RAM, you install onto it's hard disk (5GB-30GB, depending on model).
The filesystem of the hard disk inside is actually HFS+ (the extended mac filesystem) so this really isn't that difficult. The cool part though, is the firmware. Open Firmware (it's in all the "new world" macs) makes it possible to boot from any device that can hold system software, not just iPods.
How well are they willing to compensate you for working those 50 hours, not including overtime?
I worked 80 hours one week for a major retailer, for a mere $8.50 and hour. Even with time-and-a-half for everything over 40 hours, it still wasn't a well-paid week.
50 hours well-paid is not bad.
From those of us in the really shitty jobs, you guys can either stop complaining, or switch places with us. What'll it be?
I know first-hand what's it's like to be a prisoner of the job market. If I didn't work the job I have (I work for a major retail chain) I wouldn't be able to eat or pay the rent. I don't do what I'd love to do because no one will employ me doing that. I'd be very happy to work a technical job, but they simply don't excist here.
I'm glad someone's admitting this. The problem with OSS adoption is that very little of it is mature. Sure, there's a lot of apps. But if 90% of them are in a perminant Alpha state, then they're not much use to people like me who demand stable software.
Right on! Lexx was awesome... So was the Invisable man, and What of Sliders? Sci-Fi is a bunch of idiots. Everything they try to promote is crap, and everything they cancel is gold.
Maybe they should replace thier execs with chimps?
I second this.

Hell yes... if I do this, will I get superpowers too? Equireing minds want to know!
I have one of the affected machines... a slot-loading iMac. Anyone have a link to where I can get the needed info to contact Apple?
1GB memrystick? Where? I've seen 256MB ones, but no larger. My laptop, Camera, and PDA need more storage.
Got a link to place that sells them, or did you just pull that capacity out of your ass?
One Word: EXPENSIVE.
Why does this remind me of some IRC channels I've been in... :P
I need a life.

Can I please come work for you? I'm cheap.
Email: longbottle@mail.com if you're interested... please, I need work.

BROTHER!
I, too am an intelligent person working a shitty job. My sympathies.
I feel your pain. I want to hack the PDT's to run Tetris, but no one will approve it. :P

There's a good reason for this:
We have no choice.

(holds up cuffed hands)
See?
What remote software? I didn't get any with mine... (please mail me to continue this discussion)
HAH! I voted for Harry Browne in 2000... Not my goddamn fault, you stupid bastards.
/me starts hitchhiking to Canada
Enjoy the new regieme....
This is such an old joke, and far from it's dirtiest telling I'm surprised you're offended.
Yes. Me.
Only if it provides 1.21 gigawatts.

Kinda offtopic, but I love your sig. :)
Model M's, the only keyboards you'll ever need... and the only ones I'll ever use.

I've had a long history of creative labs causing "explosions"... they make some of the shittiest products on the market today, in my opinion.
