OK first, I was duped by your fake "[reply to this]" signature. thanks, another look at the goatse.cx guy's ass.
Anyway, speaking of/old/, someone has been working on MULTIPLAYER for GTA3!! Apparently it's still buggy. I dunno, haven't tried it. Still, seems cool! It's about time!;)
Well the question remains as to whether or not Disney will actually spend publicity money on the re-release. They could very likely just go on the logic that "The Oscars are advertisement enough" and go at it.
That logic has merit, after all. I know I've watched The Oscars several times and said "What movie is that??" And when I saw it at the video store I picked it up.
The guys from The Bob and Tom radio show were pretty unimpressed by it, calling it boring and unfunny. I consider those guys to be a good representation of non-geeks, so I expect the general public will have a similar reaction to Spirited Away. Personally I thought it had several funny moments. There are no banana peels; the humor is more subtle than that.
In the end, it's a simple matter of going see it and deciding for yourself.:/
I agree! People should be able to spell simple words like "sentence" and "acronym".
I realize this sounds dismissive of the "people make mistakes" nonsense that gets passed around, but really, get with it!

Anyone else think we'll see stores seriously investing in bose speakers now? (to play these sounds that manipulate how you feel.) Customers will just think they/really/ like that store!
I never conciously think about awards when I see a movie, but I've had several conversations with people about how Sean Astin, a.k.a. Samwise Gamgee deserves best supporting actor nods... In my opinion, as well as the others that have brought it up, Sean Astin has done a marvelous job by protraying his character genuinely and insodoing added that much more realism to the fantasy that is LotR. I have yet to, while watching LotR, pull back and consider Sean Astin the actor. He's always Samwise on-screen. [blah blah blah.]
I too am a serious Myst fan, though I was very disappointed with Myst III: Exile. I remember scouring every bit of Myst and Riven in order to get to the end.. but III, which I believe was done by a different company than Myst and Riven, was insanely easy to get through. Their logic puzzles were more "use every movable object" than "pay attention to every detail and use what you learn in order to complete complex tasks"
So... yeah... hopefully their puzzles will be back up to par in this version:)
Actually, this sounds like the winning submission for Google's programming contest.... So.. yeah, google probably would be interested... either in suing or being the owners... probably in that order.
Corporate tracking methods aside, there's another reason why The Big Dogs want the populous to stop using cash: cash is untrackable and tens of thousands of dollars a year simply disappear into granny's' matresses across the country.
Further--and more importantly to the government--it allows for sales of goods to go UNTAXED. How many of you here on/. have ever paid tax at a garage sale? Or how many of you have ever paid taxes to the gov't for the money you made off of your own garage sales? Not to mention all the other [il]legal transactions that the gov't doesn't get to pilfer.
It has to come at activation time. If the first thing you do is reformat, there's no service charge at all.
Right.. Joe User just spent two grand on his computer. gets it home, opens the box and it says: "Hi, you may now pay us another $300 for windows + office." I see that happening.
I see your point, but instead of trolling about it why not submit appropriate articles to/.? If they're that fascinating I'm sure they'll get posted.
This particular entry is a follow-up to a previous/. story where they announced the DHTML bug--which is why it's important to note that they fixed it, and quickly (the first/. story was posted only 4 days ago)! It could be cited as a "isn't Open Source turn-around quick?" Just because you don't initially see the merit in the story doesn't mean it doesn't have one.
This movie did remind me of 2001: A Space Oddysey, mostly because it concentrated on abstracts and visuals a lot more than dialog, action, or interaction to develop the plot.
I completely agree with the original review, and I probably would have said about the same, but I'd like to add several questions I had about the movie that might have ended up on the cutting room floor or only in the book or... something.

Let's see... What was the deal with the door knob? it was some sex metaphor since it was between her legs with the key-hole facing toward Chris (Clooney), but that's just a guess. What was the physicist-girl's creation that kept knocking around in her room? Why did Chris' wife always have this creepy-ish plastic grin through the first half of the movie? What the hell happened to the security detail that was sent in before Chris got there? The guy that was there said the security detail got there and killed one guy, but... where did the security detail go after that?? They didn't go back! And what about the guy they said just disappeared? that he simply wasn't on the ship anymore? what happened to him? how did he get off the ship? Why did his friend commit suicide instead of leaving the ship? he seemed happy in the memories...

Ok, April Fools.
And anyway, Jackson has said explicitly that he's not going to do The Hobbit, but... Money Talks.
i clicked the link to linuxhardware.org when there were still zero comments on the story and it was already dead! Crazy!
Hell yeah! Great movie. If you're in the movie for a slightly-off-balance comedy definitely go for this one.

A guy at work calls Valentine's Day "National Singles-Awareness Day" I thought it was pretty damn funny.

Perhaps... Though I just saw a commercial for "AOL Broadband"--Which I assume is DSL--which will help them combat this loss in membership.
I told my friend about this article and her response was: "Hah! Forget world hunger and stopping war, let's build a road to the moon!" lol.
Nah, you'll probably find that his entry is a duplicate... just copy/pasted from the last time this discussion was posted!

shouldn't that be affected? ;) hehe... oh wait, you did that on purpose, right?
... but when i saw it, it was on a "Popular Science" short from 1960 about how we'd be living in 1990. :P
lol
Then why report it on slashdot? Surely there's more interesting things to talk about...
sorry about that. next time I'll use XML.
no, really.
