I should be crowned as king of all nerds to be reading about this while there is lots of "big banging" going on down few blocks from here on French Quater and Bourbon St

  5. Maybe for now... on Open Source More Expensive In the Long Run? · · Score: 1

Maybe for now the support for open source software might be more expensive than commercial.. However as more businesses switch to open source the market for open source support will increase and refine as the greater number of companies start specializing in open source support.. With greater number of companies specializing in open source support the "lifetime" cost of open source support should decrease due to competition and greater numbers of companies offering open source support. Basically the more the open source grows the more attention will it attract in terms of suport.. More and more companies will jump into the open source support market and as that happens prices will go lower if my memory of Economics serves me right..

Hmmm, the most anticipated game of the year or of new millenium if you want (Doom III) is going to be released on PC first.. No One Lives Forever 2 is coming to PC first, Unreal Tournament 2003 is on PC first.. Warcraft 3 and Age of Mythology are on PC only... Everquest is on PC only.. Sims are PC only... All the games that define genre seem to be released on PC first.. Exception comes to fighting games which is the only reason why I would own console. I had my X-box for almost a year and its sitting there collecting dust..

  12. TV?? on How Could TV Survive Without Commercials? · · Score: 1

Why would we need TV?? Honestly there is absolutely nothing on TV that can hold my interest. I do watch DVD's sometimes and thats about the only thing that my TV is usefull for. All the media (news, infromation, research) I need I get from the internet. Internet has replaced TV completely in my case.
I do think that todays non-interactive TV format is ancient.. I can picture us sometime in not too distant future wondering how in world did we manage to just sit there watch that TV BOX that constantly fed us whatever Media Bosses wanted us to see.. The greatest thing about the internet is that you controll information the way you want it. Whatever you want to research or do is available 24/7. So to talk about how to keep TV content alive without commercials does not make sense, since TV as we know it will die soon and will be replaced with someting else more interactive and meaningfull. I am sure I am not the only one that made complete switch from TV to internet?

  13. best part of article on Violence, Video Games And Donahue · · Score: 2, Insightful

Best Part of Article was at the end when the guy recieved angry e-mails from angry soccer moms regarding his view on computer games:

"You are obviously not a mother trying to raise teenagers you stupid freaking moron idiot."

"I'd like to take that stupid X Box and crack that moron from MIT over the head with it."

Now is it just me or is it a bit odd that most of the bad angry e-mails he got came exactly from the exact same people that oppose violence in video games??

Or another thought... I love all the religious fanatics who want to ban and censor any material which in their eyes promotes violence.. Shouldn't they try banning religious institutions first since afterall it is the religion itself that drastically slowed human progress throughout the history.. Not to mention that religion has been in some way or another a major fact behind most of the wars in world history that claimed millions of lives... Shouldn't they be the last ones to comment on anything? Since if I was one of them I would be too ashamed to show myself in public...

Sure.. Nukes are bad... But you can argue that they are the best thing that happened to us and that its the Nukes themselves that saved human race from ultimate destruction.. How?? You could argue that nukes serve as deterrent that keeps all the major world powers from going into the war.. think about it.. Without Nukes to serve as deterrent US and Russia would have probably went into a war that would have costed millions of lives.. So as bad as they are, you could argue that nukes brought STABILITY since no country is willing to risk complete destruction.. So when u look at the nukes as pacifying factor in world today then really it does not seem as bad. Few times Nukes have been used in Japan probably prevented an all out ground war between Japanese and Americans that could have resulted in far greater number of casualties then it was the case in Hiroshima and Ogasaki..
