I still prefer Perl for those pages that require some sort of CGI. Its really a matter of do you want the code in the web page or the web page in the code. While Perl can be difficult to read for the uninitiated, its easier to follow the logic and flow of the code when the HTML is separate.
As #2 would say, six of one half a dozen of the other.
The whole process of science is one of adjusting theories in response to new data or new findings in mathematics. Science is not a religon, you don't have to believe anything unless it has been proven to you by the evidence and logical reasoning. If scientists didn't admit they were wrong we would still be blindly following the works of Ptolemy and believing that the earth goes around the sun. Instead scientists changed their minds when a better theory (Copernicus) and observatons (Galileo) showed that Ptolemy's model was wrong. This is only one example of scientific change. (The church's reaction to this is another matter.)
I am surprised that in "News for Nurds" that people wouldn't be more aware of the process of science.
Except that in Ben's time people weren't flying airplanes into skyscrapers...
No they were just shelling towns with cannons, killing prisoners (both the Americans and British did this in the Revolutionary war), committing genocide on the native population, etc.
You can't use one act of violence as an excuse to suspend civil rights. Violence has been part of life throughout history. Hitler suspended civil rights when the Reichstag was burned and look what it led to.
Even if the amendment didn't pass at least it shows that some people in congress are actually reading the so called Patriot Act and may eventually change it or repeal it.
I'm working on an iMac with CD-RW that we bought a year ago, and that is one of the latest computers that my office has bought. I only got a new one 'cause I'm the web developer. Some of our secretaries are still using beige G3's running OS-9!
But that's what I get for working for a state when our governor is one of the Bush's. (Guess which state.)
That would suk if its only available on DVD. I have been running Panther for a few months and am quite happy with it, but I would like the opiton of upgrading to Tiger. I would have to buy an external drive since I only have a CD-RW on my Flatscreen iMac. Same for everyone else (except the director who has a DVD drive he never uses) in my all Apple office.
Actually I did see 2001 and didn't find it boring. For its time it had great, visually entertaining special effects. At the same time it explored the basic question, "What is really out there?" When we meet aliens they won't be LGM's or BEM's but most likely beings who are so advance we won't have a clue to what they are. I think its a good example of a film that is both entertaining and intellectually stimulating.
THX may have had something to say about individuality, but it took a long time to say it. The British TV show "The Prisoner" took on some of the same themes, but in a far more interesting way. If Lucas hadn't made "Star Wars" THX would be long forgotten and no one would even consider a digitally enhanced version.
Big deal. THX has to be the most boring Sci-Fi movie ever made. Its even more boring than watching a guy race robots on an empty ship in "Silent Running." Don't see THX expecting the pacing and excitement of the first Star Wars. Its just people shuffling around in bad clothes and having pointless conversations. If I want to see that I can go to the mall on weekdays and watch old people.
Actually I am getting sort of tired of watching Ken. I used to watch Jeopardy every evening, but have tunned out lately. He has gotten the signaling button down. Most of the lower value questions are general knowledge and its a matter of who ever signals in first. If you can control the board you can choose the categories and can pic the ones you know more about, also you have a greater chance of getting a daily double. This give an adavantage to those who have been on for a few shows and has gotten used to the timing of the signaling button, regardless of knowledge.
I say bring back the five show rule and get some competition back in the game.

Use JavaScript to write your e-mail on your web page to fool the spambots. Won't tell you how, to avoid mono-culture, but easy to do yourself. Or set up a cgi web page on your site for e-mail adresses that require a button click to get to.
The U.S. goverment may have supported the development of the internet, but Tim Berners-Lee develped the World Wide Web, HTML, TCP/IP, etc. and he was Brit working at CERN in Switzerland. Pretty good for the old Europe.
What really happened: The parachute opened early and it was caught by a gust of wind, the rocket ended up in a pine tree down the block and they had to throw sticks and a frisbee at it to get it back. A fin was damaged by the frisbee but can be repaired with some elmers glue. A frog has been captured to be the payload for the next flight.
Great, its not enough that the Catholic Church spread their garbage to the New World and into Asia and Africa, now they want to convert aliens. The idea that a human is inherenly bad and the only way out is to feel really really guilty because some middle eastern philosopher let himself be killed by the Romans 2000 years ago is one of the worst ideas to be spread across this planet. Hopefully aliens won't be as gullible as American Indians and won't allow thier cultures to be subverted by the Church's lies.

(Also, who names their kid "channing?" or "cole" for that matter? The quality of child naming has really gone down of late...)
Yea, I know, I met someone named Trevor yesterday, sheesh.
Cool! We better do a good search for life before we start terraforming. Uncle Martin must have come from somewhere.

Sorry, I meant blindly believeing that the sun goes around the earth. I owe you a set of encyclopedias.

I bet there are some dinosaurs turning over in their graves right now.
No they are turning over in your SUV's engine.
So the flap of a butterfly ballot in Palm Beach County can cause the thunderstorm which changes and election. Maybe Ray Bradbury wasn't so far off.

Apple has software update in system preferences. Does anyone know if the latest update to 10.3 (Panther) takes care of the security bugs?
