"I'm a musician, despite doomsday predictions, synthesizers haven't replaced real musicians"
There's a reason for that. People tend to simplify things when they talk about "[X] will replace [Y] in the future!". Musicians do more than just "make music" They project an image and a personality. They're as much fun to watch as they are to listen to.
When was the last time you saw a music video that DIDN'T have footage of the band all over the place? Musicians are rarely faceless entities that output music. Tool and Pink Floyd are the exception (being that they never had a video with band-footage in it)
Can you imagine going to a concert and watching a guy just press a button, and have everything pre-programmed? I'd say 99% of people think that if you're not physically affecting something, you're not making music:)

"If you are really worried about timewrap breaking programs in subtle ways, then set your clock ahead now, and find the bugs. That will give you several years to fix them. If you are binary only, you might NEED several years to get you vendor to fix them!"
See! Even in 1985, they understood that opensource bugs get fixed faster than properietary software!:)
I'm sorry, but if "a license without click-wrap is weaker at protecting your rights." then the license is inherently flawed, especially in open source.
Here's the problem, by introducing a click-wrap license, you actually weaken your license. The reason is that you introduce a fail-point. If the user never clicks through, does the license still apply to him? Any lawyer could sucessfully argue otherwise.
Now imagine how this would work for opensource. The program, and all of it's derivatives, could not possibly be provided in a tarball. Because untarring the tarball gives you access to the source without having to agree to their license. So the source will always have to be provided in a self-running executable.
I'm here to tell you about a new diet, it's guarrantteed! Start my diet and you'll be shedding pounds in no time! It's called "The Flu" That's right! The Flu! The Flu works by shutting down your body, and supressing your appetite. You won't even want to think about food when you're on my diet!
Go read some research, the Atkins diet and all the other kidney-abuse diets work just like the flu. What happens to your body when you're on the Atkins diet is exactly what happens when you're dying of cancer. But hey, ever see a fat cancer patient?
Grr... the article perpetuates the urban legend that qwerty is designed to "slow down the typist".
That's not true at all! What he found was that when typing quickly on old typewriters, hitting two keys that were right next to each other would jam. So instead of moving keys around to "slow you down" he moved keys around to speed you up! By moving commonly used keys to opposite sides of the keyboard, the typist was able to type quickly without jamming the typewriter.
It's been shown that dvorak actually makes RSI worse because commonly used keys are hit by the same finger. Where qwerty spreads things out so that all fingers are used frequently, dvorak causes you to use half your fingers far more frequently than the others.
Also qwerty relies a lot on alternating hands.. this is shown to be much faster than using a single hand to type a word.
Does that mean that MS's booth is going to BE the emergency exit? Then MS will go and set a fire and then claim "We have the way out! Come to our booth!"
With the amount of cocaine and coffee in columbia, i'm suprised they didn't build the entire infrastructure in a single evening. Followed by cleaning the entire country top to bottom.
This is really quite amazing to me. Microsoft truly is the most braindead company.
Why in the world would anyone buy an xbox now? We now know it's going to be replaced with "something much much better" in a little while.
Now instead of making money selling xbox's and xbox games, everyone will just hold on to their cash and wait for Freon(tm).
In the meantime xbox-exclusive game makers will bleed red, and drop support for the xbox.. when Freon actually makes it out the door, it'll have no games because the game makers aren't going to invest the time and money on a product that already burned them once.
Freon will kill all of MS's hopes in the console market. And you can bookmark me on that.
Another fun thing to do is to prove to stupid people how radiation really does cause things to become huge. Put a few large marshmallows in the microwave, and microwave them on high for 2 minutes. The marshmallows balloon up to at least 4 times the size.
"The problem however, is that CHITIN.KEY -- Assuming that of course IS the Keyfile. You see, every copy of Neverwinter Nights has a unique Key associated with the user who registered at Bioware for multiplayer gaming."
Lucky for you, I know a thing or two about how both the Aurora engine and the Infinity engine work (the key/bif format is the same for both). Worry not, young warrior, CHITIN.KEY is not a key file. It's a hash index for all the resources used in the game (look up a specific resource in the key file and it'll tell you which.BIF the resources is in, as well as where in the.BIF it is)
Actually, why can't we DoS attack the RIAA for suspected infringement of our copyrights. The RIAA doesn't seem to realize that any provisions they are granted to "enforce our copyrights" must apply to all copyright holders. That's pretty much everyone in the world.
If the RIAA doesn't need a warrant or reasonable doubt, neither do I... the DoS attacks start at dawn!
"Now when "they" decide that GPS will not be turn off-able, oh well, I guess I'll just turn the whole darn phone off."
Well, considering that GPS requires line-of-sight to work.. just don't use your phone outside. If you're inside, GPS won't work. Or you can wrap your phone in tin foil.. it'll block GPS, but act as a nice antenna for your cell phone.
Of course they can still triangulate your position without GPS.. so your best choice is to stay in your basement, with your shotguns.. listening for the FBI.
Yes please tell.. I have a fully working SVQ3 codec that I reverse engineered sitting on my harddrive (note, only video, the audio is QDM1 which I haven't done yet) I haven't released it due to blatent patent infringement:) but if Sorenson isn't going do to anything about it.. I may release it after all.
Everyone seems to forget that XBoxLive is a subscription service. How about I hack your box and steal your password? Now I can play as you.
Even worse when MS truly implements passport as a "single sign-on" service.. then I'll be able to become you wherever there is passport. Perhaps I'll log in and place a few bids on ebay for you.. you did want a gamecube and PS2 didn't you? Well guess what lucky bidder, you just paid $800 for them!

It just doesn't work.
It's kind of funny, they say "ignorance of the law is no excuse".
But the legal definition of insanity is "didn't know what they did was wrong".
So he should've plead innocent by reason of insanity. =)
For every study, there is an equal and opposite study.

Everything you ever thought you know about the QWERTY layout was *wrong*.

Yeah, not only does it come with Gnome2, but the installer and all the distro apps use gtk2.

"Sounds kinda neat. But the "screen for advertising" angle makes me wonder about exploitation. The latest Korn and Doritos Munching Game anyone?"
Yeah, but you got the game name wrong. It will be called Korn-nuts.

Maybe the pizza isn't a very efficient absorber of energy, but the cheese certainly is.
As anyone who's ever bitten into fried mozzarella sticks can attest.. cheese is the one magic food that has the potential to turn into molten lava.
"Though I wonder if running a dedicated linux server will take up your CD key?"
No it wont. The CD key isn't required to run the server.. just the client.

"natural" seems to be defined as however people want it to be defined in order to best suit their cause.
Go to a natural foods store... $10 says you'll find Tofu. Is Tofu any more natural than a hotdog? I don't think so.. they're both processed foods.
So when they say natural they really mean "whatever I want it to mean".
haha.. the mental image of Bill Gates wearing prison stripes, pink underwear, and living in Tent City makes me happy.
