I don't know about that. I'll use my mom as an example. When something crashes, she doesn't blame Windows she blames the software. In my experience, that's fairly accurate. Poorly written software is poorly written software regardless of platform.
But Microsoft with all that money they have can't deliver at least something which doesn't annoy their users. It is sad to see that people rant about Internet Explorer, Office, yet they are chained to them for various reasons - apps, support, etc.
If Windows really annoyed its users, don't you think there would be more of a backlash? I know it's fun for/. to bash Windows, but how many times have you heard a "normal" Windows user call and ask for an OS alternative? Granted most do not even realize there are alternatives, but they still do not ask. Most of my friends (who are not geeks) never complain about Windows or IE. My point is the vast majority of PC users have very little to complain about. Windows does what they need.
I SCUBA dive and have personally seen catfish as large as big dogs. I have not seen any as big as the one in this article, but I would believe that it is very possible.
I'll also give Insight BB a 9. Very pleased with the service and connection. We (Southern Indiana) get Insight BB for $40 a month though. May be because there are other options here (although all of the options suck).
My girlfriend works for a financial institution. She has also learned to do what you mention. However, there are places that will not accept your card if not properly signed, and ASK FOR ID is not a proper signature. Fortunately, these places are far and few between. If more people signed their cards in this manner, maybe they'd come around.
For those that don't sign their cards at all, please do so. You'd be surprised how many people do not.
As the other poster stated, the difference between the two formats is almost nothing. I believe the -R format is 1 - 2 percent more compatible with standalone DVD players.
It's more of a personal thing. The -R format was developed by the DVD Forum and the +R format was developed by the DVD+RW Alliance. -R was the standard and +R was created by companies not willing to pay to use it. Personally, I use -R for that reason.
I understand that this is important to Linux users (or admins of said systems). My point was more along the lines of the average Joe's who work and or shop at AutoZone. Many of them have probably never even heard of Linux (or operating systems, for that matter). The OP was talking about pissing off automobile enthusiasts and such, and I don't really think that will happen.
I keep reading topics like this, and I can't help ask the question "How many of these people will even hear about this?". Linux users are generally more informed because these matters concern them and their lovely OS. How many people going into AutoZone to buy oil will ever hear about this case? Even better, how many of their employees will even hear about this? Yeah, the tech guys who are responsible for the systems in question will, but I doubt the cashier at the store down the street hears about it.
My point is that other than investors and AutoZone HQ employee's (and Linux users) very few people will care about this case.
I just recently got something similiar to this working. What I do is use DVD Decryptor to decode the VOB files and dump them to disk. This is a complete backup of the original DVD, without the encryption. I've got an ATI AIW 9600 Pro card that can output the video to my TV. I currently use SVideo out because I have an older TV. The card can output using DVI though, which should give you a digital link to your plasma screen. You can then turn on Theater Mode in the ATI MMC software which will cause any video app to automatically output full screen to your TV. If you have a good sound card, you can then use the optical out on your card to output the DD or DTS signal to your AV receiver. You should be good to go at that point. You will need a lot of drive space though if you are going to store the DVD's, since most current DVD's are dual layered and average around 8.8gb each.
Hate responding to myself, but nevermind. Found a Freshmeat link that actually has a newer version than what the link above lists (v2.1). Here's the link for anyone who might be interested. Looks like it might be very useful CD to have around...
Anyone have another mirror for this Ultimate Boot CD? All of the mirrors listed on the main site seem to be slashdotted or taken down because of the load. I'd like to take a look at it.
I was with SunCom here in the MidWest for several years. Part of the reason I went with them was because they were part of AT&T. However, about two years ago they suddenly stopped being SunCom and went to just plain old AT&T. I had assumed they had gone out of business, but I guess not. My service was the same so I never cared enough to look into it. So my guess, your SunCom will become Cingular.
I just KNOW it will be out soon, 'cause my new ATI card told me so. Why? 'Cause I have this neat little card that says I get HL2 free. I mean, ATI being a fair and reputable company would have included another game by now, right?
and it was because I could. It wasn't cheap, however. The total cost was around $1750, but I've got a beast of a machine that can do everything that I need it to, and should for a long while. This list includes:
DVR
On Demand TV
Music Jukebox (entire CD collection a click away)
DVD Watching
DVD Recording (backups and home movies)
FM Receiver
Remote control of PC apps
Dual monitors (LCD and TV)
Convert VHS to DVD
Plays latest games
Internet surfing on big screen
Cool factor
I now have complete control over my entire mulitmedia experience, because everything is being done in one box. It's been a lot of fun getting everything to work together. So why did *I* do it? Because I'm a geek who loves to do it myself.
I know I'm not the OP, but I just built a new PC last week using Zalman stuff, so I can answer some of it.
I bought two Zalman 80mm Quiet Mode fans for $9.98 and the Zalman Copper - Aluminum CPU Cooler for $35.99. The CPU fan is very quiet, and the 80mm fans are quiet at around the 1700 - 1900 rpm range (but loud at 3000 rpm). The quiet mode the 80mm fans speak of is simply an adapter with a resistor to drop the current. I didn't even install it, rather I let the BIOS control the fan speed.
I can't speak of the Zalman PSU since I went with Antec (which is rather loud, but pretty).
Because I'm tired of men being portrayed as idiots. I also can't stand "reality TV" shows, and since there appears to be hours of it on every single channel every night of the week, I'm not tuning in. Rather, I'm watching The History Channel, The Discovery Channel, The Learning Channel, Cartoon Network, Spike TV, and yes, a lot of ESPN and ESPN2. As this article indicates though, I also play the GameCube a lot during prime time. Oh, and I'm 33 with two kids, and I probably play the Cube almost as much as my 11 and 8 year olds do.
I don't know about that. I'll use my mom as an example. When something crashes, she doesn't blame Windows she blames the software. In my experience, that's fairly accurate. Poorly written software is poorly written software regardless of platform.
Just for the fun. I was actually speaking of myself not anyone else. I can see why it might be confusing, so I've changed it.

I will volunteer, but only under these conditions:

At the end of the day I say: "I did the best I could at being lazy."
I'm just lazy.

At least for my city, which has the nickname Stoplight City. I swear we've got lights at every damn intersection in town.
'Course with Mrs. Knuckles in front of me most of the time my speed never goes over 25, regardless of the posted limit!

if the current bidder wins. Last two eBay purchases were books on world currency.
If they show up with suitcases full of cash, be wary. Seller better have one of the money markers with him.
How 'low' can they go?
I don't know, but the limbo hurts my back, so let's hope it does theirs as well.
If not, someone kick them in the crotch while under the pole.
