But someone has to manually add that entry to the dhcpd.conf file, and someone has to manually add the static route for the/30 on the router you connect to. If a network change is made, all these/30's have to be relocated to the other device.
We don't bother adding the/30's to DHCP becasue it is easier to let users do it with tech support than it is to pay UNIX admins to make the changes.

I got bored one day and figured out there are over a million IPv6 addresses for every square inch of the earth suface (counting water). Also it is not difficult to track somwone down just becasue they have a DHCP assigned IP address. Without DHCP we would have to hire 1 administrator for every person becasue they will have 15 or 20 IP connected devices.
Then why do they have such a poor image now? Why do you suppose even so many anti-MS technical users are still using windows today?
The answer is not marketing, and for most people (probably you included) it is not vendor lock in either, no matter how much we like to blame that.
Could it be that the alternatives are either immature (desktop Linux) or prohibitively expensive (Apple)?
No, couldn't be.

Insightful? You are suggesting I reply to all my spam and say, I am sorry xxx@domain does not exist, thank you.
That is like when answering the phone and then saying "I am sorry Priest is not home right now.... and sounding off my best attempt at a *beep*
There are timestamps, mail headers etc. that are too time consuming to try to forge, you are better off hoping they will think the mail platforms spam filter ate it.
I say go with the catch all domain, that way you can give out temp aliases like ny-times-reg@domain.com and know when someone sells your alias for spam.
Another piece of advice, is to register the domain with OpenSRS rather than a register.com reseller, because register.com either sells your info or has an easier database to mine from my experience with snail mail from my register.com domains.
We once had a HDD end up missing at our company headquarters (Army). All barracks were placed under lock down, everyone near the HQ building in the previous few days was investigated, and a team of searchers were sent to search through our rooms, cars, bags etc. After what was an all day event searching through our stuff, it was later discovered that someone sent the parts to a the repair shop and one hand didn't talk to the other.
Then other people will be more willing to buy new games becsaue they have a high resale value. I think that arguement is so retarded. If you want to hurt MS spend the $500 on Linux games and software.
Gentoo had the fastest growth rate only becasue it went from.7 to 1.0 market share. SuSE however gained the most market share going from 10.9 to 11.8. It gained.9%, compared to the next highest Debian which gained only.4%. So it looks like SuSE picked up more RH defectors than any other distro.
I don't use a real domain because then some poor companies mail servers still has to process the junk@domaiail address. I often use something like sp@m.this becasue it is not valid.
When I had a catch all address with my own domain I would enter the site I was giving my email as the alias eg. osdn-7-11@mydomain.com, this way when I get spam from \/1a.gra Inc. sent through some relay I know who sold the address.
True though, try asking some random person how many states are in Canada some time. The answers will amuse you. For some other easy questions people seem to miss see: About how long does it take for Earth to orbit the sun? How often do we have a leap year? I think MSNBC did a survey with simmilar questions, I was shocked by the results.
XP Professional: 46 advisories in 2003-2004 48% remote attack 46% granting system access
SuSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) 8 had 48 advisories in the same period, 58% remote attack 37% granting system access
Red Hat's Advanced Server 3 had 50 advisories in the same period - despite the fact that counting only began in November of last year. 66% remote attack 25% granting system access
Mac OS X 36 advisories 61% remote attackers 32% granting system access
You came up with one example and declare Linux more ready for the desktop than Windows XP? People have their own opinions on just how ready Linux is for the desktop, talking about it rarely sways anyones opinion in either direction.

Right next door to "Priest's Coffee Shop and Thermonuclear Weapons and Energy Research", I wonder if the domain is taken, I think I'm on to something.
