  1. You know, I have to agree. on Debian Project Votes To Postpone Policy Changes · · Score: -1, Flamebait

Personally, I like Debian. The package management and administration are fucking great. But the social contract is just a bunch of bologna. While having all the source available and GPL is nice, I'm never going to look at any of it. I just want the binaries. I think most casual users are the same. And in the end, they are just going to divert more people to other distros that don't have the same qualms with closed source software. What is the point of a social contract if it alienates your userbase? More like anti-social contract.

  11. LOL! on Beastie Boys Respond to DRM Claims · · Score: -1

You are worried about the RIAA not wanting you to think rationally about it? Every time the issue comes up 1000 Slashbots play the semantics game, but don't offer any other comments. They say "It's not theft, it's copyright infringement you fucking retard!" and then leave. The only reason they comment is to make themselves look good (and they get modded up accordingly).

If you want to think rationally about it, don't spew out "Theft != Copyright Infingement" and leave; offer something insightful that WILL make us think rationally.

Oh, wait. This is Slashdot. Rational thought does not apply! Praise open source software, no matter what. Scorn proprietary software, no matter what. Not being able to download copyrighted music (and movies) for free infinges on my right to fair use, even though I never compensated the copyright holder! Information wants to be free!

  12. Where is it? on Should Colleges Monitor Students' PCs? · · Score: 0

I read that article (and the comments on the Slashdot page) and didn't see anything about a file containing "the name of every song and movie you've ever played". Maybe I missed it. Please point it out to me, or tell me where I can possibly find this file. I'm completely up to date with all patches, and have played things (no DRM'd files, though) in Windows Media Player, so the file should be there. I'm not questioning whether or not Microsoft would do something like this (I believe they most certainly would), but I need to see it with my own eyes.

From the BSDvault article, it seems to me that the updated EULA says that only Secure Content (DRM protected WMA/WMV files) could be blocked. I don't see why they would need to make a list of every file you've ever played to accomplish that. I think you're just (typically) stretching the story to the extreme. So, tell me where to find this file. The proof is in the pudding.

Hmm, looking at your posting history I am afraid I am being trolled like a motherfucker. If that is the case, I salute you! Also, if you were a real Linux zealot I think you would have been consistent with your spelling of Windows.

If the Far East gets uppity with us, we'll let them have a taste. England will, of course, follow us on this action. Probably Australia, too. I'm afraid we'll have to kill the French and Germans, though. Probably best to keep Japan around as they make all the cool electronic shit.

So, in conclusion: England, Australia, and Japan are to be left untouched. Everything else can go. WOOHOO! GO AMERICA!

People care about Kobe because he is a phenomenal athlete. Corporations care about him because he (used to) project a great clean image and was a great spokesman for practically any product. Shoes, food, whatever. He could sell it.

The sad truth is that more people care about Kobe Bryant than will ever care about you or me. I personally am a fan of his.

I find it odd that putting Kobe on a pedestal is considered "barbaric" around here, but nobody questions putting Linus on a pedestal. While ultimately great athletic ability will not accomplish anything as important as intellectual ability will in the long run, it is still fun to watch athletic competition.

I don't understand why you people can't comprehend that. Many, many people (including a lot of nerds) enjoy watching sports, and yet there is a large faction here that looks down upon that. Why?

Oh, right. It's because you are so fucking lonely after getting Linux to run on your toaster that you furiously masturbate a couple times a day to take your mind off suicide. Carry on.
