Why are we spending so much money on such an old machine?
I get the question all the time, should I invest tons of money to upgrade my P2 400mhz computer?
Why when you have no where to go with it? its using a BX motherboard the most you can do is upgrade it to a p3 slot1 cpu, and that would do nothing. And if you wanted to upgrade it to a p4, you would need a new powersupply, new motherboard, new ram, new video card, new sound card, new faster harddrive(who wants a 5400rpm harddrive) and new cpu.
YOUR BETTER OFF GETTING THE NEW COMPUTER! Dont waste your money on an old machine when you can take the same money and invest in something new and better.
So ditch that POS and lets build a new one!
Well even if Apple just licensed their OS and didnt make computers they would have alot nicer product on their hands because their engineers know how to create very seemless products. But Apple is a computer company, unlike any other company on the market, they make the OS the hardware and they shiny cases that hold them.
I can not think of another company that does the same thing! (maybe Sun but they dont make desktops or laptops)
Companies like Dell and HP could learn alot from Apple.
I just hope they never just license the OS like microsoft does.
it didnt explode, the chute didnt come out and it crashed and kinda exploded when it hit the ground, like all rockets do when the chute doesnt open.
Some rockets need a little explosion to pop the body apart so the chute will come out, maybe that is why it made a big bang when it hit the ground.
But no it was a good launch, other than the bad landing
I agree, Mario 64 was breathtaking when it first came out and I have yet to find a game like it that makes me feel like that game made me feel.
I played the japanese version the day it came out, so I got to see it way before anything was like it on the market
Thats what I meant, It will probably be a blu-ray RW drive hacked to be a Read-Only, but I am sure there are firmware hacks or something that will get it to work as a RW drive.
well Sony of Japan has two branches, one for its everything and the other for Playstation. The main group really has very little to do with the playstation developers other than they work for the same company.
Also remember mini-discs? Sony wanted the playstation group to use them for memory cards but it never happened because they were afraid the size were to big.
oh well, I doubt that the ps3 team will mess things up, but I have a good feeling that the blueray drive in that thing is also a burner and probably could be hacked if we wanted to use it..
well, turn off all those services, and you will notice fedora will boot up alot faster than you think, remember fedora comes with over 2000 applications, while windows comes with maybe 100 intergrated apps.
BIG DIFFERENCE
like windows or macosx? hahahahhahahahah
I must say Macosx is alot more bloated than gnome.
and Windows, well we wont go there.
And I dont see any speed drops because I am using gnome vs WMaker. (but of course I have dual xeon 2.4ghz cpus with 2gbs of memory)
Wow you hit the nail on the head with that, I have always thought that since I tried Mandrake out back in the redhat 6.2 days. I thought it was silly that every distro had its own UI for things like this.
It just feels the more Gnome ages the more it becomes usefull, I remember back when WindowMaker was amazing, and I used netscape 4.6, opensource apps sure have come a long way, Now I use Gnome 2.7, Firefox, evolution, gimp 2.0, gaim, gqview, beep, abiword 2.0, xchat 2, mozilla, gnome-terminal, and Naut.
I love how all my applications are compiled with gtk2 and they all share the same common look and feel. And with these applications I have become so productive with Linux its amazing..
Why Apple Needs iTunes for Linux..
PHP-Nuke
As of Late, I have been looking into buying an ipod, they are so cute and sexy, but I cant get over the fact that I cant download music legally for it. You might ask me, why cant you go onto Apple's iTunes and pay for your music, well because THEY DONT support Linux!
I have been using Linux for the last 5 years and I feel that it is the perfect desktop for me. It has loads of functionality and it always seems like things are getting updated, so it feels like a new experience every time I turn on my computer. (most people don't like that, but it keeps me productive). I have everything I have ever wanted in Linux, except a legal way to download music. I have even gone as far as buying a ibook to play around with macosx and use iTunes, but I was soon disappointed that I couldn't transfer my iTunes collection I had just purchased to my Linux computer.
Now there is a very cool open source project called playfair, that takes the DRM (Digital Rights Management) Software out of the AAC file that you download from apple and allows you to play it on your Linux computer. But this is again not legal, and it could be used for wrong doing. Apple doesn't understand if they would have supported the Linux community in the first place, they wouldn't have programs like this all over the Internet.
The only thing they have done to support Linux at all is creating a ton of open source software that helps the open source community, but not Linux in general.
I would even go as far as saying there are probably more Linux users out there than Mac users and it only hurts Apple not to create a Linux version of iTunes.
Come on apple help stop Piracy and come out with iTunes for Linux!
Out of all the iapps apple has put out, I really find iphoto to be the worst program apple has came out with, let alone the worst graphics app I have ever used! Wow, I can enlarge, crop and change from color to black and white!
Also what is with the photo duplication? every time you import a photo it makes a new version of it in its own iphoto directory, so if you change something you have to hunt down the new file in the iphoto directory.. So cruddy..
yeah Im having the same issues, I even started complaining to the mozilla crew because I thought it was mozilla because it didnt happen in firefox.. lol
Stupid 503!
what does FOSS stand for? I have been using unix/linux since 98, and I cant recall what it stands for. I know the middle part of it stands for Open Source...
what a liar
why would you buy an emachine?

how many applications is suse 9.1 bundled with? TONS how many applications is windows xp bundled with? NONE

are you an idiot, its screenshots of mandrake linux booting up and on the desktop.. Please look at the pictures before posting.

because its cheaper to use a RW drive, because it will be more expensive to make ROM only drives

I take it you dont like bush, what do you think Kerry is better? hahahahahahha
Does that mean that the US economy is better than Australis? We are kicking their ass! :-)
Only people that have trouble counting want Bush out...

slashdot is broken, I am getting the same errors
umm, did you look at the screenshots, they look beautiful
why is he a troll? gtkpod is a very crude way of getting songs on an ipod

maybe this is why microsoft is buying all these patents, so stuff like "SCO" and this doesnt happen to them..
