Leaving aside the plausibility of a 12-year-old knowing Unix, simply knowing Unix is not enough to immediately use any application running on the system. Yes, she could probably have used vi on the security terminal. But the specialized security system would have required some learning time -- significant learning time if it were built on Unix, which has notoriously inconsistent user interface design and thus makes it harder to transfer skills from one application to the next.
This guy didn't do his research. It wasn't that specialized of a security system.
Why mention Wal-Mart? Surely you aren't implying they be held responsible for people gorging on unhealthy foods. Just as you wouldn't hold a gun store responsible for what a customer does with their gun.
Instead of purely buying texts that already exist for a likely bloated price, why not use the money to pay respected individuals to write stuff for them as well?
That way you'll get classical old stuff with fresh and new!
If my gf ever interupts me during a game, say by phone call for example, it goes like this:
*pick up*
Me: "HELLO?!"
Gf: "Hey what are ya-"
ME: "BUSY! WHAT DO YOU WANT?!!"
Gf: "Uhh I dunno I just wa-"
ME: "CANT TALK! BYE!"
*click*
I've never had to deal with her complaining about my game playin. She understands that when I say I'm busy then I'm busy and should not and cannot be bothered. Thats what the rest of these pie-making laundry-cleaning women should realize.
I had my level 57 Shaman account disabled because someone complained about my in-game langauge. Can you believe that? Someone actually turned off their bad language filter, and then complained because they saw bad language.
The human races makes me cry sometimes. I never got a new account because of how idiotic their policies are.
Well I don't know what you're getting all worked up over, but I for one welcome our new eBay overlords.
I think torrents are a good idea for TV shows

HBO Attacking BitTorrent

I downloaded the first six Prison Break episodes, after watching the first, I was hooked, so I watched the rest. After that, I was excited to watch the next one so I did the unexpected... I WATCHED IT MONDAY NIGHT @ 9PM ON FOX! Wow, if it weren't for those torrents then Fox would be without a viewer! HBO should smarten up. The same thing happened with me and Sopranos, after a few episode downloads off the net, I was hooked and watching it on the tube.
At $15 a month, thats $52.5 million a month for Blizzard.
$52 million a month and their servers still blow more ass than Richard Simmons. They really need to get better tech staff and stop stuffing their pockets.
I always thought stuff like this was a little weird.
It is like a radio station only allowing members to listen to their station, but broadcasting to everyone and saying if someone who isn't a member listens in, they are breaking the law. Either set up your shit so only authorized people can access it, or don't and not be permitted to have unauthorized people arrested for using it.
1) Man merges computer chip into brain.
2) Computer chip able to simulate orgasm over an over.
3) Technolo..*oh god, yes yes YES OOhh oh..* um yeah, I'll be right back.
Could someone please tell one of the editors or article posters to make an on-site mirror of any off-site links, so we actually have a chance to see what the fuck everyone is talking about?
I really don't think any of the people who read news on Slashdot give a damn about a retarded game like Everquest and how the geeks who play it actually go into depth about the game, as shown in this article.

They've done this with dogs successfully before. I think it was posted here on Slashdot too.

How exactly would one know whether a movie sucks or not, prior to watching it?
Now of course theres reviews and critics, but I've seen some amazing movies which were pounded by critics as being terrible.

So charge him millions instead...
I'm going to hell for this, but.. I don't think any of these people are going to be around to complain.
Well thanks to the Slashdot community, we've effectively destroyed FedEx's evidence!
Where are these websites then? It'd be nice if they had something to show us.
Is that so?

News flash, I didn't agree to pay for a broken product.

So at what level of intelligence does a carnivore become unbarbaric? I assume you consider lions eating gazelles non-barbaric.
