Everyone underestimates M$, and I'm no fanboy here either, but it's entirely feasible, although unlikely.
If they were to do it and with groundbreaking features (assuming they did) who knows?. Everyone knows Apple are cool as f*** but someone will take their crown eventually just like anyone else does... Why not Bill and his massive amount of R+D and marketing cash? The Titanic would never sink right?!
M$ have the power behind them in terms of cash. If its not Xbox or OS or iPod killer they will prevail somehow... This isn't a troll - they will fail sometime but I fear later rather than sooner. They have too much at stake not to.
I realise I am going out on a limb here so don't mark me troll at the very least:) Thanx!
Well I know we don't all like MS much here, but at least their installation of spy/malware is at the very least passive and not active so who are you talking about? Sony suck cock for the whole rootkit thing. I love my PS2 though... but they dug a grave 12ft deep by a lot of people's reaction. I'm just talking games consoles here....
Me and a friend pumped £20 (quid damn u ascii) into house of the dead 4 recently and had a great time - Girlfriends ending their shopping trip early being the only thing stopping us doubling that amount - no jokes please:). It was a great arcade experience - but 20 years ago home video gaming had a lot to catch up to technologically - now it doesn't. I'm looking forwards to my first 42 inch HD screen in the next 6 months and I know at least for now (no fanboy here) that my Xbox 360 would be able to deliver those capabilies through HDMI NOW. So Sega has a long way to go to go to get far ahead of what is pretty much avaiable now. (To clarify old school Sega fanboy - out).
Some of the best gaming moments I ever had were from the Monkey Island/Sam and Max/Day of the Tentacle days. Never played them but from what I know Full Throttle and Grim fandango did extremely well critically too - I should also include Psychonauts here too, a game which I have absolutely caned recently?. For contrast I have had many other great gaming moments RE4, Bubble Bobble, Gradius etc.. You know what I'm trying to say. Fuck the publishers they really ought to look further than the balance sheet if they want their (read:our) industry to survive past PacManBisexual.
I applaud you on your move before diabetes sets in like it did me - I used to drink several cans of regular cola everyday and Im sure it didn't help prevent me getting type 1 10 years ago (though some may say that proves nothing). Like you at first I found diet drinks to have a bad aftertaste but I soon got used to it and now on the rare occaision a McDonalds monkey serves me the wrong cola I now find it cloyingly sweet. Pepsi Max is my recommendation, all taste, no sugar - just as it says on the can. (IDNWFP BTW).
But getting back on topic - FPGA's - as the parent quite rightly states - will never matched dedicated silicon. Just saying I think they have a lot better cost/performance than perhaps they are currently credited with. The main thing to remember about FPGA is Altera and Xilinx are both heading towards the 65nm bleeding edge now (just slightly behind Intel). This is because the foundries love FPGA as it's repeatable architecture is great for the debug of new processes - hence FPGA is usually on the cutting edge.
Not quite guys... Yes, FPGA can be very expensive in large high top of the range densities, but look at something like Spartan3/CycloneII and you will find them all over the (low cost) consumer market now for uC/DSP acceleration.. You can get quite a lot of logic now for a very small $$$ value. Add things like the Altera NIOSII embedded FPGA core which are MIP competitive with the ARM9 series and they are a very good proposition - especially when you include custom hardware accelerators and/or something like the new Altera C2H C-code to hardware function compiler. An independent BDTI report not so long ago showed that for non-branchy DSP functions FPGA kicks the shit out of standard DSP's. Horses for courses. So many people I meet are still so ignorant of the power of FPGA. Go read up.
I *seem* to remember (and I feel I remember this pretty well but please feel free to tell me what the real money was) all those years ago begging my dad for an Atari 2600 back in '83, and him denying me one because the games 'were £40' (in GBP) - if this is true then video games have done pretty well (in cartridge terms) of inflation since...
Actually, while I'm on one of my favourite subjects (drugs and video games) who was it that said "If video games really influenced the youth then after Pac Man we would all have been running round in darkened rooms munching pills and listening to repetitive music". Genius.
I own Sony, I own Nintendo, I even own 360 (I own about 16+ consoles from over the past 30 years no fanboy here).... But let me just say to the people who doubt the Rev's controller: IT WILL WORK. Nintendo just won't release it if it doesn't... c'mon...
Who cares? If it's that problematic turn your phone off. I'm recording music a lot of the time. At that point no phone call is important enough to leave its imprint on the audio stream. Otherwise it's a brief distraction secondary only to the phone starting ringing itself!.. Such a non story... TV capacitor whine bothers me more..
Judging by your comment on this thread and your sig, you're nothing but a grammar nazi with nothing better to do than come on here and put other people down for something other than their inability to spell, not for their inability to say something constructive to the./ hordes..... So why don't you go fourth and multiply... After 1,2 and 3?
But I've been waiting for a good 18 months for next gen (own GCN,PSP and PS2 from past gen and much farther back before than that... and favourite is GCN - go figure) and this weekend I gave up and went XB360. With GWAR it's pretty hot, throw in XBOX live with Marble Blast Ultra and Gauntlet.... I am in a place now where I might not bother with PS3 (I sooooo WILL buy the Revolution though even if it comes out with Duck Hunt with nothing else for two years)..Sony? Go fuck yourselves. The PSP should be great but sucks.
As a lot of posters have already said, it's not really fair to trash a beta version of a game as you can't tell what will or won't be fixed before the gold code release. But I have found Edge magazine (I am not affiliated in any way) to be quite good on this front. They will often mention buggy code/poor framerates/poor gameplay in the beta, but always mention the fact that they hope this will be fixed before full release. I think this is the best we can hope for.
Do yourself a favour and get RE4 if you do. The only game I have put in over 30 hours on in a long time (and I play a lot of games on a lot of systems) . It's just awesome.
Since 'discovering' (read - informed by the froth-mouthed slashdot hordes) FF myself only 18 months or so ago I have downloaded it around 8-10 times for my own personal use, rebuilds etc. So as far as unique users go I would expect the number to be at least half of this, if not less. Shame though because it is a nice browser.
Thanks - I was just biting into my ham roll then.

If conditions were that cramped and it WAS so easy to find food/sustenance, then why WOULD they need to evolve? I don't see your point?

24 while you can... please feel free to tell me to stop patronising you, but I know you'll be back in 5 or 6 years to tell me how right I was! ;)

I checked first to make sure - nothing worse than a redundant post.

I played F-Zero on some very good acid once - does this count?

If I hadn't lost my mod points on this thread taking part you'd probably have gotten an insightful... Ah well..
brilliant in its inefficiency!
