Explain the advantage or even the point, of buying a machine that costs upwards to 4 times the cost of a regular PC to run Windows XP?
Because I'd really like to understand that.
If you want to impress me, show me OSX on a Pocket PC.
The Coalition should be organized like the CTU off of "24". They ID spammers, Spyware and Virus authors... then send in a guy like Jack Bauer to just kill everyone in the office, then track down the guys that called in sick./feeling a little bitter.
Actually I'm still waiting for OS-X that I can install on my Pentium 4 machine. +1 for the comment about the KVM switch. I run two machines at home. One for work... Linux. And the other is for games... XP. The two keyboards and mice is getting annoying. I need to order myself a switch.
The only thing worse that "Windows" in the common OS versions in use... is the orphaned version of XP called "XP 64 bit edition" that doesn't work with all the tools normally used to resolve security issues. Many applications that we use here in the shop just flat dont work with 64.
It looks like MS just took Server 2003 slapped an XP theme on it, and then broke all the strengths of both OS's.
As a result, I've got a number of issues over here that I can't get resolved. As soon as I get a decent copy of the latest Vista Beta, I'm just going to make that switch. XP x64 is just about useless because of the security issues. This box is getting hit left and right, and is constantly stumbling.
I'm not looking forward to all the new issues with Vista, but at least I won't still be using XP64 any more.
(Yes, I've got a Linux partition... but that's not the point)
I'm now inspired to water cool my GAME BOY ADVANCED!
Next will be my Texas Instuments Calculator and Timex Expedition digital watch! Water Cooling makes everything better.
I used to have a screen shot from BSG. It clearly showed a Firefly class ship flying past a window. Ronald's hat tip to Joss.
Wish I still had that screen shot.
You are forgetting about Robert Rodriguez of Trouble Maker Studios fame. You might have seen some of his movies. Sin City, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Spy Kids.
He started out with a seriously small indy film called "El Mariachi". This was a full movie that cost only 7,000 to make. He didn't have any Hollywood support. He just did it himself - like how anyone who really wanted could do. The only difference was that RR had/has massive amounts of talent. His talent has earned him a small movie making empire.
Same thing could happen with anyone with talent who really wanted to make it happen.
Don't forget you have to pay property tax when you buy the car... and then every year to keep it "registered". So in essense, you buy your car (or the right to drive it) again every year.
The real question is who owns the intellectual property that the research group comes up with. Since it's MS sponsored, it is MS' baby. Singularity could turn out to be the next OS after Vista. Because, come on, Vista has all the signs of being the next ME.
On another note, SUSE 10 has rocked my socks off. I'll stay with that.
Weight of the shotguns? What do you mean?
An autoloading shotgun can weight the same as a pump gun... and in some cases less so.
Look at the Remington 870 Magnum Express... one of the most common shotguns out there. Then take a look at the field grade autoloader from Charles Daly (no, not the best auto out there, but its just an example.) The CD gun is a lot lighter than the older Remington pump gun.
You can buy a whole system for 500 prebuilt... Just by a Mini Mac.
You can play all sorts of games!
The Mac logo puzzle game...
Break Out...
Super Break Out...
Photoshop...
Yeah, I'd like to know how to make Zombies work! Freaking lazyass layabouts all of them. They never pull their own weight... they are just a bunch of parasites living undead off the living. Have you ever seen a bridge built by zombies? What about those highway adoption signs... "This stretch of road kept clean by zombies." No. You don't see that - ever.
What I am more conserned about is stopping zombies... this is why I like my 12 gauge. Classic slow zombies... the new fast european import zombies... 12 gauge works on all of them.
The article really doesn't touch on one of Slackware's advantages over other distros... its speed. The only distro that I've really seen that is actually faster, is Gentoo. And that was Gentoo compiled specifically for that machine.
An associate at work has a ghetto celeron powered Tosh lappy, with Slackware. The thing is screaming fast. We also put Slackware on an old 700MHZ Celeron and you would have to get an XP machine over 2 Ghz to compare to it when it comes to speed.
Is for serious fans to make their own Firefly series. Forget this Star Trek crap. Firefly is where its at.

I'd put SUSE on that thing before I got the whole system unpacked.
I've got it behind a firewall. And on a short leash.

Still not as cold as my Ex. But almost.
SCO still exists as a small office staffed completely with lawyers. Lawyers who had best leave my SUSE alone.

That is what they should have said about "Firefly".
Can they get 802.11b with that?
Can't wait.
But will we see DVD players come bundled with the OS instead of having to compile your own?
I like the big bomb solutions best. But thats just me.
...if Microsoft lawyers starting going after people who sew curtains and replace broken glass.

If you can't play F.E.A.R. on it... I'm not interested in it.
