    I tend to think that Slashdot is evidence that evolution is curved and we are now on the downword slope. Slashdot used to be full of intelligent discussion, now it's just petty bickering 90% of the time. It's as if Slashdot began life as a full grown educated adult and has slowly aged backward to become, oh I'd say, about 15 years old now.

    LOL. How old are you? 12? You think Apple is only giving away a few hundred grand because they're just squeeking by? And do you really think it costs Apple anywhere near that much? The prizes probably cost Apple less the $10,000 in total. But they are going to put the full value on the books for tax purposes. Selling iPods and iTunes aside, Apple is making money off just giving away the prizes. Money, which by the way several people have pointed out, will be paid to IRS by way of increased taxable income. If you look at it from the right perspective, Apple is screwing the winners.
