Of course I didn't RTFA, but would this mean if I broadcasted the latest RIAA single I would own the rights to a recording of that broadcast? Even if I never owned the rights to the actual songs in the broadcast?
Microsoft needs to offer an update solution that doesn't require checking if the system is legal first. Not letting people patch isn't motivation for somebody to spend hundreds on software they already have, but blatant disregard of the infastructure of the internet as a whole. They allow these machines to stay online and keep the spam flowing.
It's nice to see somebody from the community on/., Gunslinger
Most people who don't know how to build a computer also don't care about speed. They don't understand things like compatibility and generations. Most of them think "i'll buy an expansion card and make my computer fast".
If people want hardcore gaming rigs all they need to do is/server irc.enterthegame.com.
My father has owned a Kyocera Smartphone for some time now. It is basically a phone with a Palm V built into it. If you ask me he uses that thing as much, if not more than, his computer. Both computers and telephones are basically tools for communication when you get down to it.
Programming will always be a fun challenge. I've been playing games at an amatuer competition level online for the past 5 years. Something like this includes online ladders, leagues, tournaments, etc. Last winter I went to the CPL, the premier professional gaming tournament in the US, and attended as a competitor. The 4 months of spending 4 hours a night practicing my ass off made the game anything but fun. I could program night and day and come back to it with the same energy and vigor (.. as much as anybody could have towards that sort of thing, anyway), but with playing games on a professional level it really becomes a job and there is no fun left.
How about throwing wireless access into some of these. Imagine a gigantic wireless mesh network for emergency purposes. Accident on Park and Tyrone intersection? The EMT will know within seconds to send a dispatch out to the location and even have a partial assesment before they even arrive!
It might not make it to the front page, but releases of PHP are generally big news. PHP drives a considerable portion of todays pages. Some developers get all their news from/., so the more exposure the better.;)
I thought the government has to first be involved in something before they tax it. The gov't doesn't own any part of the internet, so what is it that allows them to consider taxing it? I use VoIP (Ventrilo) to communite with my team mates during an online game or just for chatting. If I wanted to write some interface to use a VoIP enabled phone with that, would THAT then be elligable for taxation? Taxing the internet is rediculous. I'll be glad to leave the terrible service of my regional baby bell.
Actually, a few smaller attacks could be more damaging. Imagine if the location of NOC's across the US were exposed and attacks were carried out on them. Goodbye internet, hello 404 (if you're lucky enough to have a dns to attempt resolving domains).
The last time I checked that only applied to countries in which the medium was manufactured. It really stinks that such a fine peice of hardware is getting bad press of a trivial matter. IIANAL, but what is the legality of Apple having to pay for loyalties only applying to specific countries? Is this something that would be taken care of during the trade agreement?
1. Spend all your money on certs to get a job.
2. Get rejected by anti-cert employers.
3. ???
4. Land a nice job.
Anybody care to fill in the blank?
Imagine a beowolf clu....
Oh. 15 years old, right.

We require 20 million dollars or we will sink a series of oil ships .....
I wonder how many UFO chasers will come out of the woodwork when some metal falls from the sky.
The day microsoft writes their own instruction set and starts licenscing their own hardware:
Sky.NET

I thought honeypotting is being considerd as not-so-legal. Hopefully this could be something positive in the case for using hoeypots affectively.
Similar to saying "I had a burger and coke for lunch," when you really had a burger and Pepsi. TiVo is becomming part of American culture.
Now It costs me nothing to throw VIA's junk out!
I'm starting an entry level programming job at a local Uni for a little above minimum wage. Is a BS in CS going to give me > 20hr?
Does anybody else remember getting a WebCrawler promotional CD 10 years ago? I didn't even have a CD-ROM then!
.. 9 distro's? I thought the ALSA sound lib was used commonly accross them all.
Ettercap
That chart seems a bit flawed. If you switch it to this you will see an entirely different story.
Too bad we'll probably never know if this site gets /.'d since it's in Sweden.
