I was a computer engineer at ISU, really good program, can do a lot of the same stuff as CS majors, with additional things too. I dropped it when I decided computers sucked. I have a few friends who are CompE/EE double majors, they started getting internships/job offers their sophmore year, including government work (sick) where if you sign the contract they give you $8,000 a year your jr/sr year as well as full room and board. So all you have to worry about is your fresh/soph year. It's a good deal, if you could handle working for the man.
Duh! It's simple. We don't like Star Wars at all, we just want light sabers. Face it, while it isn't god's gift to cinema, jedi are god's gift to science fiction. Every nerds wet dream.
They're relevant too. "Your honor, in addition to being a drug dealer, the defendant has the clap!"
The information has to be handled with discretion, otherwise you'll probably be able to sue the pants off of them, and maybe get out of your drug charges.
What about us kids with pirated copies? Are we to suffer viruses simply because we're too cheap to pay for the software, and support that comes with it?
Long before monsters inc, Final Fantasy the Movie had them. Including some rather vulgar ones where they flip off and swear at their co-stars. Very funny.
A lot of bands with no affiliation with the RIAA sell their music exclusivly via these methods. You know, you should think about all of the options before you go off spouting the "holier than thou" crap. It's not like I'm setting any sort of double standard. I get all of my music for free via the interweb!
While the battle scenes were very eye appealing, I think that all of the actors did a wonderful job. Sean Astin (not sure on the last name) was so convincing as Sam, it was breathtaking. Not to mention Magne....errrr Gandalf (portrayed by Sir Ian McKellan) really had the presence to convince me that he was both wise and powerful. Anyway, I just felt that yeah, the battles were pretty, and it would be hard to have the LotR without a war going on, I still don't think the movie was made by those sequences.
I have a 200mb/day upload limit on my computer in my dorm via the school's policy. It makes it hard to run a decent warez server! Downloads are unlimited though. Not that it matters, sharing my connection with 30,000 other students kind of limits the speed. I have a nice yagi antenna on my Christmas list though. If I point it out of my window, I should be able to hit the access points, which aren't on the residence hall network. That's 200mb/s of untapped bandwidth. They won't notice if my room mate and I are using a mere 11mb/s!
Because.....It's being retired because of a lawsuit, not because it was Microsoft's will. Notice they also had to retire a version of SQL and the current version of office. Not a very happy ending for them eh? RTFA.
Big companies like Oracle. Not like Microsoft. While I know that a lot of large companies have some bad (bad == evil on par with the antichrist) Oracle has typically made good contributions to the community. I do seem to recall them making a profoundly dumb move once or twice, but the details are hazy at best. Not like Microsoft where I can specifically call out atleast a dozen things they have done that aren't just wrong, but evil equal to that to the antichrist.
It's called FXPing. It's really popular among warez users. It used to keep me on 0day sites with a mere dial up connection, dumping from one site to another.
Have you ever considered that linux just really doesn't have the software base for my needs? I use linux on my webserver and on my laptop (used mostly to maintain my web stufs, or rdp into my xp box when I'm on the go.) I'm not just some wanker zealot saying that linux is dying, but yes, I use both, and I would never use linux on my main desktop. Collectively, because they don't have a instant message client equal to Trillian. Most of my contacts use MSN, but a few use either icq, aim, or even yahoo, I really don't like to piss with having more than one im client open. My second major use for my computer is music, which isn't really an issue with xmms. Third is games. Yep, lots of games. They have WineX ect but with the really poor direct x functionality, it's all dieing soon, further more I'm not going to pay montly to play a game, that and they suck are the two reasons I refuse to play MMORPG's. So, only does two of the three things I use my computer for. Maybe folks aren't as misinformed as you make them out to be.
Quite a bit. I'm not sure if you're familar with the emo kids, but fedoras are really popular. As are other items, cardigans, general sweaters, blazers, ect. Usually worn with jeans.
There's a Linux version, it must be a good game... I don't mean to troll but NWN is a horrible game. It was easy, and the camera angles sucked. It was D&D, but where was the party controle. The hirelings AI was terrible, I hired a theif to disarm and pick locks ect and he kept getting himself into melee combat. If you want a really fun game, go pick up Baldur's Gate and/or Baldur's Gate 2.
Definately. I had a similar and completely opposite situation. I earned the respect of my parents at age 12. My curfew was lifted, and I was given pretty much free roam. My sister, who was four years older than me, had her curfew until she was 18 (of 10:00 on weekdays and 12:30 on weekends) Now, as you can imagine, the two years she still had her curfew, she often complained about it. Mother's answer was always some variation of that I had earned the trust, and shown the ability make my own choices. I only ever abused my privledge once when I was sixteen where I disappeared for four days to go visit my friend who had moved away when I was about 14. I got a stern talking to, but was allowed to put in my two cents. My punishment? Next time leave a note. Until I was 18, if I wasn't going to be home until after 11:00, even though I didn't have to, I left a note.
That depends. If I get into law school (also for IP) then you're trying to do good. If my choices reject me, you're evil. Everything in this world is perspective.
The reason they broke is because the weren't following the ATAPI specification fully. When Mandrake tried to use a function that works with the standard, the drives choked. After the firmware upgrade, they seem to be fine. According to the article anyway.

Yeah, he's fucking DEAD.
So.... How do you make it?

That of course was true though it is no longer so commonality
I agree fully that it is dirty and underhanded, but I don't think that it is so by any fault of Sun's, not from the article anyway.
Have you ever thought that there might be people out there who actually want a bigger penis?
Get the corporate version of windows Xp pro. It doesn't require an activiation.

That was perhaps the funniest thing I've ever read on slashdot. Very subtle to! kudos!

I know Google uses Linux. Just to give you some confirmation.
