  1. Why pick on gamers? on How Gamers Could Save the (Real) World · · Score: 1

Why not mobilize all couch potatoes? Install 3 buttons on all TV remotes. Viewers must press "no damage", "mild damage" or "severe damage" before every channel flipping, or better yet, to keep the TV on. Or when I'm driving to work in stop and go traffic, I could do something meaningful with 3 simple buttons in the car...

The idea that if the government releases the data, everyone will switch to the best provider is ridiculous. If everyone switches to the "best" provider, they'd become oversaturated, lots of service unavailable, and drop calls. They'd stop being the best. Then with the next report, everyone would switch to the new "best" provider. No, it doesn't work that way. Reporting will make all the companies more accountable and try harder to improve their service.

  6. Gearlog faked the story. Here's why: on Sony Fakes Blu-Ray Demo? · · Score: 1

Gearlog very clearly faked the story. Very subtly.

Exhibit 1) The two laptops are DIFFERENT:
Take a look at the first photo and notice the blue on the side of the laptop. The left laptop's side has a thinner blue stripe--with the top half being black and bottom half being blue. The right laptop has a much thicker blue stripe.

Exhibit 2) Blu-ray laptop is on the RIGHT:
Photo two shows the blu-ray logo. Look at the laptop side, the blue stripe is thick! The blue stripe includes the drive cover. It's the laptop on the right.

Exhibit 3) DVD+R laptop is on the LEFT:
The last photo shows the DVD+R disc. Notice that the blue stripe is missing near the front of the laptop (just like the laptop on the left). Also the drive cover is black. In Exhibit 2, the drive cover is blue.

Therefore, Gearlog faked the story. Or just an idiot that can't remember which laptop was which when he pressed the button.

  7. Censorship rights on Self-Censoring 'Chinese Wikipedia' Launched · · Score: 5, Insightful

Flamebait me if you want, but companies DO have rights to censorship. Heck, Slashdot censors. Otherwise, every article here might be M$ bashing or Linux raves. Or, endless dupes (oh wait, this happens already). Back to my point, companies can censor if they want. Users just don't have to go there. Why go to Baidupedia when you can go to Wikipedia? Yes, there is a Chinese language section of Wikipedia.

As far as I'm concerned, Chinese companies can censor all they want...so long as the government doesn't force them to use only Baidupedia and block Wikipedia.

By the way, Google owns 2% of Baidu. And as we all know, DO NO EVIL! (yes, full of sarcasm)

  8. Jewish tradition implies literal creation on Vatican Rejects Intelligent Design? · · Score: 1

I find it interesting that one can choose to not interpret the Bible literally with creation occuring in seven days. While it may be possible to think that the Genesis story is simply a display of God's power, what is left unexplained is the idea of the Sabbath. The Genesis creation states that God finished creation by the sixth day, and that on the seventh day He rested. This day is to be kept holy and is referred to as the Sabbath. If creation had indeed occurred over long spans of time, Jewish tradition would have the Sabbath last for thousands of years followed by no Sabbaths for thousands of years. Instead, Jewish tradition of keeping the Sabbath as detailed in the Old and New Testament would support that the Sabbath is a single particular day in the week. I believe that this evidence gives strong reason to believe in a literal Genesis story.
