  1. I didn't know.... on Cable TV A La Carte Part 2 · · Score: 1

I am probably one of the many consumers out there who don't read Business Week, but now I know.... and as this article says, am kinda mad.

I know where I live, my cable rates have gone up a lot. I pay almost $100 a month for basic digital cable and my cable modem. There are so many channels that I don't even want, but I pay for them anyways. Even so, and even if the rules have changed...... I doubt there is anything I can do about it. They would laugh at me if I called and said "take of ESPN... I don't want to pay for it"

I'm sure many slashdotters have cable service at home too... what choices do you think you have?

Not reported is correct.... and it's only going to get worse. When Bush passed the "no child left behind act", he required 100% (I wish I could bold that) graduation rates, 0% drop out rates, and 100% of all students passing the standardized tests in the next 12 years for all students on the books. If a school fails to meet these goals for 2 years running, they face action by the government. So what about your ESL students (or other kids with other needs) who will never meet these goals? What about your teens who drop out of school due to pregnancy etc? Simple, the school won't keep them on the books. So what happens? They get less funding due to less students.... say nothing of the children who are let through the cracks by the school districts... And it doesn't have to be this way, but our president set unrealistic goals that the schools have no choice but to meet.... somehow. So now we are so focused on meeting standardized testing objectives rather than teaching valuable skills.

During one of his lessons, he asked the class to imagine a situation for this ethics class.... after that day, he had to teach the class imagination.

My point is this: If you teach everyone the same, and force them to conform to the idea student, they will most likely all think along the same lines.

Low temp PEM fuel cells are probably the "next" thing in cars. Research is finding out that carbon nanotubes "soak up" hydrogen like a sponge, and from the last report I read, a "tank" (they didn't define the size) of hydrogen soaked nanotubes would allow a fuel cell powered car to drive for about 1500 miles w/o a fill-up. I also have to wonder, who needs that much bandwith in a wireless application? Perhaps you should really be thinking about a wired connection if bandwith is that critical. In most applications, it's not the standard that's the major limitation, it's the equipment.....most cheaper cards are not full-duplex....so you're missing half your bandwith right there. Good equipment and antennas will serve you much better than a "better" standard.
